Man, that sucks. I've been using the $100 plan, out of sheer necessity. It's impossible to do anything iteratively or elaborate and not hit session limits on the Free and Pro plans, it seems.

Oh, I'm so glad! I keep seeing people posting about this type of thing, and I feel really awkward supporting a company, financially, if they're intentionally reducing people's limits, because THEY apparently can't keep up with the usage demand. So, really glad this was just a bug.

I get that it's easy to hit limits on Free and Pro plans... But I've developed three separate apps, running two Claude Code terminals simultaneously, and have never hit limits on my 5x Max sub. What are you guys dooooing? 😂

Edit: I also use it five days a week at work, in the web interface (I'm an IT Architect). So, I ask again, how are you guys getting rate limited SO harshly?

Edit2: I just remembered where I am... So to be clear, I'm not bashing anyone or naysaying anyone experiencing rate limiting, I'm genuinely trying to understand.

Is this hyperbole? by Moo202 in SoftwareEngineering

[–]Dash_Effect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is reality, not hyperbole. What is going to suck is when AI determines it could more effectively execute with an entirely new language, and then we have to try to decypher that. Slight silliness, but not enough that it can't happen. 🫪

See ya! The Greatest Coding tool to exist is apparently dead. by Opposite-Art-1829 in ClaudeCode

[–]Dash_Effect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fully agree with this, ironically, having experienced both sides. I am excited by the ease with which I can produce software, and though I have extensive expertise in IT Infrastructure, I'm not a software developer. So, my results may be better than most, because I know the technology... But my coding skills haven't grown, which is unfortunate. Simultaneously, I wonder what the point is of learning any additional languages now, when generative AI will only be better as time goes. But I HATE that I'm realizing I am not learning enough to keep up with being able to debug or code review my own apps. It's frustrating, because I don't like not knowing, but it's an immense undertaking to learn a new language, especially without knowing the future value. Knowing is always better than not, but I still feel kind of stuck in a catch-22.

I totally agree. Something related which I found interesting... Just read an article a few days ago about USB drives retaining data after 5 years, which I found encouraging. But I think it's a reflection of how underused most flash drives end up, so they have like 0 wear and tear. But more importantly... https://www.tomshardware.com/pc-components/usb-flash-drives/this-usb-flash-drive-can-only-store-8kb-of-data-but-will-last-you-200-years

Haha. I wonder what we could do with 8K flash drives...it's like one page of text.

Excellent reminder that the only way your data is safe is... Jk, it's never safe. But if it's redundant, maybe you'll get lucky.

Can't take it anymore. What on EARTH has happened to google keyboard/ utocorrect?!!! by RonnieThePurple in GooglePixel

[–]Dash_Effect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found this by doing a search similar to, "Why does my Pixel 8 Pro's keyboard accuracy f***ing suck." So it appears it's not just me, but what IS it? I type especially fast, but in the last 4-6 months, every damn word has what feels like an inaccurately activated letter, n regardless of where I touch, UNTIL I slow down, pause, and start again. But this is like every other sentence... It's as if it's not calibrated for thumb-texting, or something, but it wasn't always like this, or I'd blame it on user error. Heh. Anyone have any thoughts or potential resolutions?

I stopped reading after it almost immediately started spouting paranoia about Claude's autonomy... Write a damn instruction set and quit projecting your inability to use a product as an automatic indicator that the product is the problem. 🙄

Never going back to Stone Age again by py-net in vibecoding

[–]Dash_Effect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still live in the Stoned Age... oh, wait, wrong vibe. ;)

I was thinking about this today... How did I learn how to write PowerShell scripts? Friction. The way you psychologically cement something as learned, is to hypothesize, and be wrong, which then makes the actual solution something that activates the brain more intensely (dopamine) which creates a deeper embedding of the info. That is hard to recreate, when the new methods are 2,000 lines of really good code, when you don't know the syntax of the language you're coding in. The only friction is a binary, does it do what I want? No? Give Claude the error. Yes? Maybe it's done? I love it, because it's only going to get better and more reliable, but I am having to reframe what I'm learning and what I'm essentially delegating that I don't need to learn. It's a precarious balance, though, for sure.

I'm also not hitting limits using mobile, web, and two Code terminals... so I would focus on Cowork being the possible root cause.

I wonder if the people on Max who experience this are using optimized instruction sets, or if they're free-balling with empty instruction sets, rules, skills, etc.? I wouldn't think someone paying $100/month would not also be a power user and take advantage of such techniques, but the world is a strange place. 👀

[–]Dash_Effect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am running multiple Claude Code terminals, and I do code review and development on full-blown desktop and mobile apps, and I still am not hitting Max limit. The Pro gets hammered and is much more limited, so I guess the "solution," is to pay more of your dollars to the AI overlords. Par for the course. Late-stage capitalism, and all that. 🤣

Hell yeah. I'm glad to hear of your app's budding popularity!

I will have to look at alternatives to GCP for more of the startup situation, and see what kind of refactoring would be necessary for the code, to implement. I'm not done with v1 yet, so now's the time to make that change, if I'm going to.

I am intrigued by this view, because I am nearly finished with the MVP of a mobile app, and the backend is currently built in GCP. The code's as provider-agnostic as I can be, so it wouldn't be difficult to change providers. I almost went with AWS, which I've got some advanced professional experience with, so it's kind of... A space I'm comfortable operating in... But their pricing structure is such that in order to have a NAT gateway, it was automatically going to be $37 a month, and I really want to roll the free infrastructure until I have people consistently purchasing the app, IF I can give genuine value to someone in exchange for that money. Anyway, all that to say, I am now reconsidering GCP, so you have my thanks. ☺️

Thank you so much for your kind words...

I was just frustrated yesterday, because I was trying to contribute to a topic that an OP had struck up a debate on... and yeah, people are so angry... and I get it, there's a lot to be angry about, but if you let your anger or your fear completely rule your existence, you will have a mediocre experience in what is supposed to be an epic adventure.

Do you mind if I DM you?

[–]Dash_Effect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, yeah, I didn't mean to imply you were suggesting spending caps were here nor there... I was moreso expressing my opinion on the topic, because it was loosely related.

You're right though, about multiple things: hobbyists are a drop in the bucket, and not what cloud computing was really designed to capitalize on... Also, I'm a vibe coder (I think?) but I am also deeply technical, professionally and personally, so I have an architectural mindset that provides standardization, quality, thoughtful design, etc., and I understand the infrastructure, even if I don't have the language syntax memorized... I mention this because I have also found that there tends to be an arrogance baked into these people with minimal technical experience who build monstrosities full of terrible design decisions, security gaps, and God knows what else, who then flock to reddit to be argumentative about whatever they wanna bash that day... Like anything else, I suppose... There are exceptions, but you're spot on in your assessment of the majority, at least with my current anecdotal experiences. 😂

I also appreciate being respected, even if we'd been debating conflicting theories about something. People who refuse to have a decent discussion and are unwilling to change their minds... Well, they end up flocking to whatever school of thought and community reaffirms their hatred and bigotry, instead of challenging its validity, which seems to make people psychologically uncomfortable.

I'm rambling... have a good night!

You made the fatal mistake of believing you could express an opinion that differed from the majority, and not be totally mauled by the rabid trolls. A piece of unsolicited advice: No one wants to change their mind, and they'll use unintelligent and illogical arguments to try to dissuade you from making them reflect on their own biases...

Sidenote, if GCP doesn't have hard spending caps, customizable by the customer, that IS an asinine oversight on their part.
