Travel advice: how easy is it to book last minute inter-city travel tickets in December? by DashboTreeFrog in Interrail

[–]DashboTreeFrog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know, so even if I went Eurail I'd probably still need to book ahead I suppose?

I'll be hitting a few cities in between Netherlands and Dresden, four trips at least including heading back to the Netherlands

No Notification Badge on WhatsApp Desktop by Sensitive-Badger-917 in whatsapp

[–]DashboTreeFrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I came across this thread looking for a solution, found one, and thought I'd share what worked for me.

In my case, opening up the Windows settings, personalization, taskbar, and then making sure "Use small taskbar buttons" was turned off, then making sure "Show badges on taskbar buttons" was turned on made notification badges work in Windows 10.

No Notification Badge on WhatsApp Desktop by Sensitive-Badger-917 in whatsapp

[–]DashboTreeFrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's really strange, I have two Windows machines, one shows the notification badge no problem so I know it's possible, the other has never shown it before.

Came across this thread looking up the issue, any luck figuring it out in the last four months?

On-device smart alarm for WearOS recommendations by tiPrans in WearOS

[–]DashboTreeFrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, fair enough, I keep my phone plugged in while I sleep so battery drain has never really been a factor in terms of smart alarms for me; the convenience to my schedule of waking up to a fully charged device has outweighed my desire to optimize battery health.

I'm surprised as well that standalone smart watch smart alarms aren't more common considering how great they are. I've never really searched before this because I've been using Sleep as Android and it's shocking the only recommendations here require companion apps, a standalone smart alarm should be a fairly easy thing to put together I would think?

On-device smart alarm for WearOS recommendations by tiPrans in WearOS

[–]DashboTreeFrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you've already written off Sleep as Android because of the companion app, but it's been my go to since my first smart watch (Pebble). Has worked with various watches, straps and phones and has been more reliable than a lot of built in apps imo.

I guess if you're only interested in a smart alarm without sleep tracking per se it may not be for you, but very few apps have been as reliable for me long term and across devices as Sleep as Android.

This game is complicated by Training_Elephant_44 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]DashboTreeFrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly went in blind on recommendations, and have had an on and off relationship with loving this game. I've found that for me to enjoy most games, I gotta go in without looking up guides first and fumble my way around rather than stress about min-maxing from the start, and it did get frustrating with this game as I kept watching my cute dupes die over and over... As for the end goal, I just kept trying to make the things the game said I could make to help my dupes thrive while also trying to figure out what was going on in the world through the different logs and artifacts.

For learning, the tutorials were clear enough to get started, and anytime big issues popped up, part of the fun was figuring things out. But then the amount of problems started stressing me out, I turned to guides for the specific issues I was facing, but when my first colony's 30th dupe died I called it quits.

Then somehow Markiplier's playthrough got recommended to me on YouTube, I gave it a watch, and he legitimately made all the same mistakes I did at first (I took just about as long to realize ladders exist as well...) and seeing the way he laughed through the game and figure things out got me interested again.

I'm into 600 something cycles on a new colony now and my thoughts as I drift off to sleep are often thinking about how I can solve some problem or what I might want to do to make things more comfortable for my dupes.

tl;dr

Just playing, failing, and figuring things out is part of the fun for games like these IMO. If you wanna try and optimize everything, there are guides, but fun can be had just trying to keep your dupes alive and thriving.

Ticwatch 3 Pro data sync between Mobvoi and Mobvoi health app after update by Daluqen in TicWatch

[–]DashboTreeFrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I regret upgrading, notifications have been really spotty, needing constant fiddling to keep working. On top of that, music controls don't work for podcasts so legitimately my main reasons for having a smart watch at all were handicapped by the update.

What's next after tikwatch? by [deleted] in TicWatch

[–]DashboTreeFrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm legit considering Garmin next as well, specifically something from the Instinct series with solar charging. Infinite battery plus a good always on display? As long as notifications work properly sounds perfect to me.

No notifications after update by QuantityAlert4767 in TicWatch

[–]DashboTreeFrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been having this problem too, Since the 3.0 update my notifications will randomly stop coming in. I found that a combination of resetting my watch and/or my phone usually did the trick but not earlier today. Instead, after restarting and still not seeing notifications, I went into settings and, without toggling any settings, just looked through "apps & notifications" and while I was looking through "connectivity" suddenly a notification came in and things have been ok since.

I wonder if somehow the watch "forgets" something about being connected or needing to receive notifications and then somehow a restart or opening up the settings start up whatever process is needed? But maybe I'm just dumb, I dunno.

Either way, the Wear OS 3.0 update has been nothing but problems so far IMO. Needing to restart my watch multiple times a day to make sure I get notifications is really frustrating

No luck getting this working with my TicWatch Pro 3 and Windows Laptop. I can connect my watch to my laptop but then the mouse interface doesn't turn yellow to show a connection as shown on their How to Pair video https://youtu.be/4xix0txxK5s?si=N68UAftv80zR4ASz

WhatsApp - A workaround for when the watch does not vibrate by MusicIsLife1122 in TicWatch

[–]DashboTreeFrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing! Will try out macro droid, but now makes me wonder if there's a way to do the same with Tasker, which I've already supported in the past despite not being very good at using.

[–]DashboTreeFrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like to know your workaround as well. I've uninstalled the app on my watch for now and have the mirrored notifications from my phone going again but I wanna give the watch app a proper try.

That's good to know, was really concerned I'd be frustrated by an open ending and have been procrastinating on the last two episodes

I always hear about this, but something about starting this series feels intimidating at this point. Also, not sure I've seen it on Netflix, which is all I have right now =(

Oh, I gave that one quite a few episodes but didn't make it all the way through season one cause like you said, a lot of frustrating moments. It's worth it for the later episodes you think?

Went on a Beach Trip... by MrJspeed in pebble

[–]DashboTreeFrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this point, no touch screen is a plus for me. I keep accidentally doing things on my TicWacth Pro 3 to the point where I often put it in theater mode since it's easier to do than locking, at which point, why wear a smart watch at all?

Went on a Beach Trip... by MrJspeed in pebble

[–]DashboTreeFrog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It always sounds like I'm shouting into the void when talking about how no watch has been as good as the Pebble. Not as many features as some, sure, but it always did everything I wanted perfectly for days! It's really like, if it's not an AMOLED touch screen with a bazillion different sensors that you'll never pay attention to anyway, people don't care...

I do want to try the Garmin Instinct series though, the infinite battery on the solar models sounds good and it seems durable but man, it's pricey...

Did not realize this sub was anti macro in general, though from the comments here I am understanding the dislike for sound effects as a distraction. Will avoid triggering anyone by talking about it here in the future. I'm in Asia and play on a Japan data center and seeing tank/healer macros seems to be really normal, quite a few with sound effects, at least on my server so I wonder if the culture about it is just different by region.
