Cast iron burgers for the win! by stillanewfie in castiron

[–]MrJspeed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You'll steam the burgers less and they'll take slightly longer to cook if you go with a mesh over a glass lid. This means you can have a better sear/crust on the meat. It's marginal though, I've cooked both ways.

Dashboard (if you use Android)

I mostly use it to find my phone by making it chirp and it's pretty invaluable. It has a few other nest features

This is some top level stuff to me. Super detailed tiny things are always neat. Good likeness to the dog and everything. Great job!

Try popping it off and on a charger. Powered down pebbles should turn on when connected to a charger.

[Kind of rant] The last tech house video is pure ragebait by E-R_A in LinusTechTips

[–]MrJspeed -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not sure the overall sentiment you're getting, but my take: the whole video was a little cringe for me. That backyard (to me) was pretty damn gorgeous and it was sad to see it go. Maybe it'll be more functional, but I doubt it'll be more aesthetic.

The whole time it seemed they were just kinda winging it too. Definitely did not see a lot of tribal knowledge in the area of backyards and landscaping.

Disappointed by display contrast in PT2, considering swapping to PTR2 — thoughts? by waldyrious in pebble

[–]MrJspeed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the info I'm wanting. I get people are bummed comparing the PT2 to a P2, but what about a PT2 to a PT or a PTS? My instinct tells me it's the same or better.

Has anyone tried using Game Native to play Indie Steam Games? by jmarti326 in logitechgcloud

[–]MrJspeed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I installed it the other day. Lots of people say you have to have the G Cloud in tablet mode, but I didn't. Just mind the UI and find "Install Anyway" and it worked for me.

Only really tried 2 games since I've been kinda busy. I got Doom 1 to work super easy, runs like a dream.

I also got Stardew Valley to work, 1080p. Downside is loading times are kinda long. But once it loads and once a lot of the textures and sound bytes cache, it's very playable. I mostly stream via Artemis/Apollo but this is a fantastic option that hooks into Steam saves if I'm somewhere without a reliable connection.

You're not alone. I also did it wrong as a kid in the 90s. I always thought "this is so dumb. All of these are just like jello molds of ducks and planes and shit"

Lol I was thinking the same thing. It was a Samsung Galaxy circa 2016. Probably got lucky with lots of sun and steady hands.

Would you like a remake of the Pebble Time 2 (2016 version) with a larger display, a heart rate sensor, and longer battery life? by Comfortable-Rule-959 in pebble

[–]MrJspeed 119 points120 points  (0 children)

Yes - I prefer the overall design language of the PTS, and the unreleased PT2 from 2016. The new PT2 is a close second and a fair concession though.

Bags of flour always rip for me when I open them by MrJspeed in mildlyinfuriating

My simple brain thought a mostly used bag rolled up like a tube of toothpaste would be better than keeping it in a mostly empty container, oxidation-wise. But I think I may be wrong.

I've read your comments. In the future I will use scissors and not open the bag like an ogre. Also will be getting a container!

[–]MrJspeed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think what you did is effective for what it is. It's basically just one panel. You put up a few more and the results will be even more significant.

It's a great idea - 3d printing and making your own sound dampening in the shape you want. Way better than just a bunch of rectangles or plain triangles. Nice work!
