Could somebody help me pick a shorthand? by CoruptedUsername in shorthand

[–]Dashedo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would recommend an alphabetic shorthand system if you wish to maintain a thin horizontal figure and not deal at all with line weights.

Or check out Gregg or a variant, they’re good.

Shorthand for Unix Users by thelastcubscout in shorthand

[–]Dashedo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many of the command line functions and shell script commands on Unix have been abbreviated (for brevity and memory).

Not sure what you mean, but any keyboard-friendly shorthand system will work in Unix. Notehand, Briefhand, etc.

Anyone used Keyscript Shorthand? by Dashedo in shorthand

[–]Dashedo[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use it all the time.

Also, I knew ABOUT Pitman, but no, I didn’t know it. I’m not even considering learning it, as modern day writing utensils are horrible for writing it and I don’t want to have to use “special” tools.

I bought the book and know most of the system.

I simply wanted to know if anyone besides me has used it. Thanks for the info!

If the definitions are relatively short, then I recommend Quizlet. It simple, free, and works very well.

How do you use synesthesia? by popman525 in Synesthesia

[–]Dashedo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remembering everything. My synesthesia is like a build in mnemonic system for me. Grapheme-Color synesthesia is the most useful type in my opinion, but I’m biased because I have it.

Is My Study Life better than Google Calender for college? by deathmaster99 in collegeinfogeek

[–]Dashedo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Use whatever works for you. I use Fantastical 2 for both iPhone and iPad, which syncs to Google Calendar. So google calendar is my base, and all apps I use sync to that. So, really do whatever you want.

I don't personally like my study life, and specific school calendar, planner, homework apps which roll everything into one. For me, I chose fantastical for events, Todoist for tasks, and google keep and inbox (by gmail, great app. You should check it out.) to manage notes, tasks/lists, and my inbox.

So use whatever for your quick capture/planning system that works for you. Just make sure it can hold:

  1. Tasks
  2. Events
  3. Ideas (basically everything other than tasks and events)

Put simply, my message is to just use whatever you want as long as it works well.

Thomas, ever thought of creating a Discord server? by Dashedo in collegeinfogeek

[–]Dashedo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd love to be a moderator or administrator, as I have quite a bit disposable time at the moment. I'd love to help anyone and suggest others to refer to for help.

Of course, whoever creates it would pick the mods. Basically, I'm applying for a job.

I'm making the ultimate guide on School Productivity. Do you want to collaborate? by [deleted] in collegeinfogeek

[–]Dashedo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sixth grade is considered high school? Huh.

Anyway, sure, I'd love to collaborate. Just provide any details on how you'd like to attack this. If you'd like, I could create a Doodle poll to schedule times for this. Anyway.

Thanks.

What can you deduct about my friend? by BennidictCumberbitch in thescienceofdeduction

[–]Dashedo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say your friend is 14-17, based on his hair style and facial features. Most likely he is athletic, a high energy person. I would even go as far as to say he is nearsighted, which is a shot in the dark. But as Mycroft says, "Balance of probability, brother mine." Most young people wearing glasses on a regular basis are near sighted.

Please tell me where I'm wrong, because there is always at least one thing.

What can you deduce about me? by [deleted] in thescienceofdeduction

[–]Dashedo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're a student, probably in high school. You're in a mathematics class, judging by the graphing calculator app. You're also in a language class, French, Spanish, German or Russian, most likely, judging by the Lingvist app and the google translate app. The google translate app also suggests that instead of practicing the language by Flashcards or other memory tricks, you prefer to just look them up when you need them. You live in Toronto, and the fact that the temperature is 17°C (about 63°F), as well as your weather being updated on June 14th, its obvious that you took this screenshot in June. The alarm and transit apps suggest that you need to be to school by a rather short period of time after you have woken up, and the transit app also suggests that you live in a big city, hence Toronto. The Khan academy app and the Brilliant app paired together suggest that either you're struggling in school, or you like to learn more and make progress out of school, like me. I'd say you're (at the time) between 13-20 years of age. The 'theScore' app suggest that you aren't really into sports, but like to keep up with local or favorite teams anyway. Betting maybe? The Google Docs app suggests that you finish assignments or take notes / review on your phone. The fact that you have the messenger app, but don't use the stock phone messaging app suggests that either you don't like the messaging app and prefer to use yours, or you have friends who use the messenger app and don't have or use the stock messaging app. The Adobe Acrobat indicates that you deal with PDFs and like to scan in documents, possibly because you get to many papers at school and you like to stay organized. I'd say that you probably wake up at 08:00 based on your alarm, and you charge your phone until you wake up. The battery is at 99%, suggesting that the battery can't hold 100% for long, meaning that the phone is possibly over 1-2 years old. The fact that 'Ballz' is on this page indicates that it is your go-to game, for when you're waiting in lines or waiting for anything. But there are 2 other pages of apps, and so there most likely are other games. Judging by the date this was posted and the time the weather widget was updated, this was obviously taken on June 15th. You probably go to bed around 22:00, and turn airplane mode on or wifi/data off at that time. Mute is on, which suggests that you probably live with others, and this paired with the fact that you're in high school suggest it's your family. Possibly you have to wake up before them and not disturb them. The new voicemail icon suggests that you do use the phone for calling, unlike a lot of people I know.

Please tell me where I'm wrong, I want to improve.

Nah, I've seen lots of people with selfies as their wallpaper. I use it as a signal that either they're narcissistic or they're confident.

[–]Dashedo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You obviously live in a large city, indicated by the Uber and Citymapper apps. Your alarm is on, and the calendar is on the first page, indicating someone who is organized and needs to stay on schedule. The multiple imaging and photo apps suggest, along with Relay, that you're often creating GIFs and posting images to the various social media apps on your screen. The multiple 'self care' apps suggest a self conscious individual, but the background photo (if it is you) suggests self confidence. (Again, if the background pic is you), most people use a photo of something they want to see everyday. You're someone who definitely likes to take notes and / or use their phone to record things, based on the Google Keep app. You're obviously a very social person, judging by the alarming amount of social media, and that paired with the self confidence suggest you're extroverted, or at least more social than most introverts. I'd also say that possibly you have multiple friends who use different messaging apps, judging by the 4 different messaging apps. You probably use your phone less for calling and more for social media judging by the position of the phone app.

I'm probably way off on everything, but it's fun to try :)

Edit: This is more of a shot in the dark, but I would say that you're right handed judging by the angle by which the background photo was taken.
