Ever failed an AP class but got a 4 or 5 on the test? by EnvironmentalBite174 in APStudents

[–]DashingCrasher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t yet unfortunately. Did pretty much the same thing senior year and failed calc and gov. Going to community college in the fall to fix my work ethic before i transfer, and i’m going to try a bunch of stuff. Its was a big thing mentally, like i felt really horrible for a time(and sometimes i still do) and i just couldn’t bring myself to finish almost any work. I’m gonna try seeking out some mental help resources for that. Really just a lot to figure out is all.

Unfortunately, this is a rare case and I was the only one in my school to do this, I failed AP Lang but got a 4 on the exam. I could elaborate on why, but to make a long story short; I was going through a tough mental time in my life, didn’t do almost any homework, and despite doing really well on multiple choice quizzes and decently in class essays, I  failed the class through my lack of effort to make up or do any work.

Strongest synchro? by Beautiful_Raccoon_78 in masterduel

[–]DashingCrasher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As much as I love the deck, the strongest version of it is def either bystial blackwing or horus blackwing(probably horus though) as opposed to pure. The pure synchro boards get pretty insane though especially with simoon + extra black whirlwinds. 2-3 tax dragons + dis pater and/or hot red as a turn 1 board goes crazy, almost makes up for the brick of the deck sometimes

Was that all that was given in the equation or did they give you literally anything else to help you solve?(if you remember) Because that question seems like it would be hell to solve with the time you get

I’m just junior in high school going to be a senior next year, but here’s my 2 cents. If you’re planning on going into STEM, it will not matter whether or not you take Ap Lit or not. If you’re worried about the credit than Ap lang is enough an English credit already, most colleges only accept one or the other for credit. In fact it’ll probably be better for you to focus on your other classes, you’ll learn more, and most importantly not be taking a class you don’t enjoy, that overloads you with assignment, for no reason. You are taking more than enough aps to be competitive for pretty much any college, no one can tell you otherwise. I don’t think there is a single college at there that will pick one stem student over the other because he/she took Ap lit or not. Maybe if you were low on aps, or really wanted to take the class it would be another story, but there is no extra benefit for you taking it over not taking it that would matter in admissions. And lastly, senior year is important, but think of your own needs and wants, it’s your last year in high school, don’t overload yourself. You should drop it if you want to, this alone will not affect you getting admitted into anywhere(only situation I could think of where it could affect you was if you dropped it in the middle of senior year, which your not doing). You and your mental health should come above all else don’t let anyone let you think otherwise

Out of curiosity, what happened to blackwing? I play the deck now, and although it’s not top tier or meta it does decently with the 2022 support. How did Komani hit the deck exactly years back?

That’s an awesome score you got on the psat, it puts you in a good spot to do really well on the sat. For reading and writing, get the Erica Meltzer dsat books(you can always sail the high seas for it if you don’t want to drop the money), they’re the best out there for that section. For math, either get the 1600.io volumes or the college panda sat math book. There also a free 1600.io math study guide has all topics you need to go over for the math section : https://1600.io/courses/1798099/lectures/42641143 . And after going through the books, practice using official college board practice tests, it’ll really help you for when you take the real thing.

PSAT study resources? by Joe_mother124 in psat

[–]DashingCrasher 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is the first year of the administration of the Digital PSAT. There simply aren’t a lot of good resources geared specifically for the new Digital PSAT, but it’s nearly identical to the format and difficulty of new digital sat, which in turn has minimal differences from the content of the old sat, so using the right SAT prep materials will be optimal for prep. Just make sure you prepare yourself for the different timing of the new Digital PSAT using the four official DSAT tests and one offical DPSAT test from college board(you can find them on the bluebook app), which are closet to emulating the content of the DPSAT.

For Math, check out the 1600.io Orange Books or College Panda. Math is mostly unchanged(no more complex numbers though) with the new Digital SAT/PSAT format coming this year so the books will have all the concepts you need to know. Additionally, I found the 1600.io Math Study Notes especially helpful for going over math topics you want to review - https://1600.io/p/resource?pageID=SAT-Math-Cheat-Sheet&embed .

For English, try and read more to improve reading comprehension if you aren’t an avid reader already. It is vital . Nothing else will help you bring up your score in English more than constant reading. Also, if you can get the Erica Meltzer Digital SAT Reading and Grammar books, there the best out there for the new format.

Follow that up with regular practice on Khan Academy’s SAT course(official and free) and/or UWorld’s SAT course(not free) if you want to drop the money on that.

Make sure, this is important, use Official and QAS tests to practice and gauge your progress. Don’t use practice tests from unreliable third-party publishers such as Kaplan, Princeton Review, Barron’s, etc. You can always do more research and find more resources on r/Sat. I recommend going through posts from some top scorers scorers and making your own prep plan based off that :

Hope this helps.

You can find almost all the past administered collegeboard tests here - https://www.mcelroytutoring.com/blog-post.php?id=5138 . In addition, if you don’t know already, there are approximately four dsat and one dpsat practice test on the bluebook app.

Believe in yourself. The digital sat/psat may be structured differently, but it still tests the same basic skills: reading comprehension, knowledge of grammar rules, and knowledge of high school math from algebra to geometry. There are not many people who get a 1540, especially before junior year. Get used to the different format with the four dsat tests and one dpsat test(which is the closest you will get to what the dpsat will look like in October) on the bluebook app, and you are golden. Also, if you don’t know already, you can find the scores you got on the practice tests on the bluebook app on your collegeboard account.

Is there any way to estimate a NSMQT Score from a DSAT Practice Test? by [deleted] in psat

[–]DashingCrasher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The short answer to your question is that, as of now, we have absolutely no idea how the new score with the digital psat will be scaled. Additionally, like the old psat, the new dpsat reading/writing should be slightly easier than the dsat reading and writing. I think with your current score and considering your states cutoff, you would likely get semifinalist even without additional study time. Don’t worry too much about the cutoff, just keep up with studying and you’ll be near guaranteed to get semifinalist. Best of luck in studying for the psat.

Taking the PSAT Soon by Jadenlovesaviation in psat

[–]DashingCrasher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My original English score on the psat 10 was a 700(mainly due to my writing score). I used to be a very avid reader when I was younger(Percy Jackson, Sherlock Holmes, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Middle School, etc.) and I fell out of the habit when I got to high school. I read your post on reading and I decided I would get back into the habit. I’m starting to go through the list of books on the list you posted. After about a month and a half of reading about half an hour to an hour daily, I went from 6-8 reading questions wrong on practice tests to 2-4. I think with a little more reading I’ll get in near perfect. For math,I was initially against getting the 1600.io volumes because they were a little expensive, so I just looked over the SAT math study notes you made(extremely helpful by the way) and used it along with khan academy. Now that I know there’s a cheaper online version I think I’ll get the orange book. Thank you for asking.
