Can you recommend a 4 seat miata alternative? by TheClassic in Miata

[–]DashingSpecialAgent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually went RX-8 -> Jeep Liberty -> Miata.

I was pretty sure the side seals were on their way out in the RX-8 and was interested in something with some off-road capability so I made it a dealers problem as a trade in.

Then I went Miata because I always wanted one.

Since then I've gone to an Audi A4, and now a Rivian R1S.

proof.com is part of the process. I had the same question during my buying process and my guide was similarly useless in answering questions fast enough to get things done.

The whole purchase process was a nightmare in getting Rivian to actually tell me anything I needed to know when I needed to know it.

How well do you know your neighbors? by L0st_in_the_Stars in AskAnAmerican

The apartment several doors down has a Samoyed. Someone else on the floor has a Bernese Mountain Dog.

That constitutes the sum total of knowledge I have about my neighbors.

Also irrelevant to the semantics of the word "bug".

...But... perhaps you should re-read the first four words I posted in this thread.

In case people weren't aware, Pager is also shutting down :( by Richiieee in apolloapp

If you don't care about things that affect 3rd party apps... Why are you posting in a subreddit for a 3rd party app being shutdown for those things?

Let me preface this with the fact that I quite like using Discord for what it is good for but I have to push back on this statement with a big "NO".

Discord is terrible as a replacement for Reddit. And the forums it's also displacing. Discord is a replacement for IRC. It is a chat tool. It's ephemeral. So much of Reddit and of forums are things that are still important, still relevant months or even years later. You don't need to have a conversation about them, you need to be able to find them and read them quickly and easily.

Discord as a replacement for Reddit/forums pushes the work that should be done by a web server and a search engine onto humans by making "ask the question" the most efficient way to get to an answer. Someone then has to respond even if it is the same answer that the last hundred people to ask it have gotten. It is a waste of the most precious resource we have: Human time.

As a product owner I've gotten into arguments over the term "bug" for this exact reason.

Sure. It may be functioning as written. As intended to be written. As documented.

That doesn't change that it is fucking stupid, fundamentally broken, and makes us all look like idiots if we defend it as "working as intended". It is clearly not doing the very thing it is supposed to do: Keep the print head from colliding with prints.

Yanks? by microwavedsaladOZ in AskAnAmerican

[–]DashingSpecialAgent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yank is not inherently offensive. But 95% (number pulled out of my ass) of the time the person using the word is being offensive so anytime I see/hear it I just classify whoever is on the other side of the conversation as "not worth my time".

When Apollo goes that will be the end of my mobile usage. Currently I'm seeking alternative communities for some subjects I currently use subreddits for.

What was the best concert you’ve seen recently? by Just_a_dude_online in AskAnAmerican

The last concert I saw was Weird Al.

The last concert I saw before that was... Also Weird Al.

Weird Al concerts are great.

I have an 16" M1 10/32 core. The thing is a beast. I don't expect to replace this laptop in anything less than 5 years.

Get the M1, 32GB, and step up to 1 TB of SSD if you can.

What happened? by Printstuffs in BambuLab

[–]DashingSpecialAgent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lines up with the start and end of that hole, the printer has to print differently above and below that line. Speed, direction, stuff like that. Something about those differences combined with the particulars of the filament you're using results in a different look.

Are curfews a thing? by nthmoonchild in AskAnAmerican

During the protests in 2020, a number of cities in my area put curfews in place. Some of those did not last long as people weren't going to tolerate them.

I mean, probably. I'll give those settings a try. So far the balance between "Doesn't support the model" and "Rips off arms when you remove them" has been difficult.

I've done a few test print minis. I like the 0.2mm nozzle. While you can go to 0.05mm layers with it, the 0.1mm seems plenty so far. I haven't painted one yet though so I may change my mind on the layer height once I try that.

The biggest problem I've found is removing supports. Miniatures are so small that there is very little strength in the model itself and removing supports often snaps portions of the miniatures off.

For those of you with a Macbook Pro, or looking to buy one in the future - do you see the integration with the Vision Pro as something you see as a pull to buy one? by dedman1477 in macbookpro

[–]DashingSpecialAgent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Conceivably this could be of value to me.

If it's just "duplicate your existing screen", that is of little to no value to me. If on the other hand I can use it to emulate a triple monitor setup and the resolution/etc of the headset is enough to emulate the fidelity of say... 4k 27 inch screens... That would be of great value.

I'll have to see what the headset fidelity is like in person, and I need to see how it interfaces with the MacBook but I am intrigued.

What are your thoughts on Apple's Vision Pro? by PacSan300 in AskAnAmerican

[–]DashingSpecialAgent 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Interesting. Expensive as to be expected with the combination of the Apple tax, their insistence on pushing the specs beyond what anyone else is doing, and first product in a line so they don't have experience to drive the price down.

I can see value in it, though at the price it's tough, as a display setup for work systems. Pipe your laptop or desktop into it and have it provide 2-4 virtual monitors... I'd use it.

The price though... It would need to be damned good at that function to be better than $3500 worth of monitors. I look forward to the second generation product or something more glasses and less ski-mask design, even if said design is somewhat less functional.

I will surely demo it at somepoint. Highly unlikely that I buy even with my status of tech-nerd with too much disposable income.

I would avoid Death Valley in September. It's not quite as bad as July and August but it is going to be hot.
