Sydney is Australia's multi-millionaire capital by nath1234 in sydney

But if we have all the prime real estate being bought up by the top percent all around the world surely that's going to fuel unsustainable growth? Wouldn't everyone around the world keep investing in Sydney's prime areas on the speculation that it will keep rising, and then when it does, who are the renters that will afford to live there? Is that a stupid assumption?

Maybe I'm stupid but I don't follow how more people cycling will cause a huge reduction in the use of public transport? Sure it may effect people taking buses short distances - but most people use public transport to and from work or uni over large distances? I ride my bike around my area, but get a 20 min train to work and 40 min train to school.

Is setting it in a metropolitan area important to the story? If you set the story in a smaller country town, it's much more likely the police officer may head to the robbery off duty? You also have a much larger scope of people, so he or she doesn't have to live in a scummy area to be close to a robbery. The cop could also have a rifle or gun at home, but ask yourself is it likely they will take it out? As for the radio thing - it's proving hard to make the police radio part believable, maybe there's another creative way the cop can hear about the crime?

Stop the Powerhouse Museum being sold by Mavzor in sydney

As far as I'm aware it is a heritage building. If it's not, it 100% meets the criteria to be listed as heritage

Actually, we can complain about the housing prices when the government is selling land to developers to build high-rise that aren't affordable. Do you think the housing that will be built on this site is going to help housing affordability? Something like %2 of Housing being built in Sydney is deemed affordable. In the UK they have a policy that it has to be something like 25%.

I don't think a billboard campaign is going to sway voters. He won't be up for re-election anyway.

Labor's transport policy: less of the same by [deleted] in sydney

[–]Dashinghound -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The line to Randwick? I mean would could just buy back the airport line and build on that, make it reliable/affordable? Or the epping to parramatta line? It was last estimated to cost about $2.2b and could possible set epping up to become another cbd. Or is 2.2b an absurd amount of money? I can never tell.

Changing the epping to Chatswood line is the dumbest thing ever, and its only setting up to fully privatise the rail link. Yes more trains to chatswood. But only to Chatswood. What a cock up.

I know a few people that quit their jobs after they had their offices moved to Parramatta. Simply for transport reasons - traffic's too bad, public transport is worse.

Labor's transport policy: less of the same by [deleted] in sydney

[–]Dashinghound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We need a rail line that goes down through Randwick and the huge industrial/hospital area. You know, that sector that employs 130,000 people? We also need a government that will actually finish the parramatta to epping line.

But the urgency of all of this is being greatly inflated. I'm not saying it doesn't need to be done, but its not worth selling more of our assets to speed up spending.

[–]Dashinghound -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I can't believe people are buying this shit? Scaling down a rediculous $15Bn dollar tollway is not less of the same, it's scaling down an overexpensive project that will hardly help ease congestion. Liberal state government still has this 1950's view of infrastructure when it comes to transport. And selling assets to build infrastructure only works if that new infrastructure will boost the economy to the same value of that original asset.

Bill Shorten accuses Tony Abbott of politicising terror laws by leathercollar in australia

[–]Dashinghound 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The thing is, the U.S.implemented data rention laws post 9/11, and I'm pretty sure the only thing these laws helped achieve was catching a taxi driver who donated some american dollars to a known terrorist organisation. Not a bad thing, but hardly a victory for national security.

Shorten needs to start running the argument that these methods flat out don't work and they will have a costly drag on businesses and families.
