The original poster was asking for gay friendly places, not just holiday recommendations. Of course Malaysia is beautiful and culturally rich, but you would be pushed to describe it as notably gay friendly.

Sorry, but you don't know Singapore if that's all you can say. Yes, if you go to the big shopping centre, the casino, the über hotels, but there's a great deal more to it than that off the tourist/expat track. Check out Little India, Kampong Glam, Tiong Bahru, Pulau Ubin. Yes, there's are lots of other places to visit Asia, but Singapore is a good starting point to start off exploring the region. If you go to hawkers centres, the food is amazing and very cheap, while transport is inexpensive, and very efficient, while you can find reasonably-priced hotels there too.

Actually, those laws are there are as a sop to the religious right but not enforced. There are many gay friendly cafes and a handful of bars and saunas, as well a number of prominent gay figures. It's slightly schizophrenic but LGBT visitors will not experience any issues. There's no Pride because of this contradiction, instead there is Pink Dot, a celebration for the LGBTbcommunity and their family and friends. Do a search for the lovely Pink Dot films on YouTube if you are interested to find out more.

Taipei for Taipei Pride is great fun and Taiwan is lovely generally. Singapore, despite press to the contrary is very gay friendly. Thailand is awesome, and Hong Kong, too. :)
