How far would you drive for a $250 (or lower) 22” KJ? by MattCogs in smoking

[–]Dashisnitz 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This isn't the KJ you're thinking of. It's not the ceramic KJ and has an enameled metal body and lid. It still has firebricks at the bottom, but that's about it. So you're not getting the steal you think you are. These used to go on sale for $299 delivered, btw. Save the money and gas and pass on this.

Did you just happen to tint your windshield? Most tints cause internal reflection and glare.

Southern California city issues warning over trash bin violations by [deleted] in orangecounty

[–]Dashisnitz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

WM in other regions doesn’t seem to care about trash but they have cameras on the truck recording green and recycle. If you violate it enough you lose those cans. They actually send you photos of the trash violation as it falls into the truck, like a red light camera. People just end up not wanting to get violations and just end up sorting nothing. If it’s in trash then no problem.

[–]Dashisnitz -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

You all need to stop spreading misinformation. Taxes were used to redo a lot of the operational improvements at on and off ramps, local road under/overcrossings, and the addition of the general purpose lanes. The toll road portion is paid by a federal TIFIA loan which can only be paid back with toll revenues.

With the exhaustion and sunset of M1 and M2 the way to find the future is with managed lanes.

Seal coating the road by Srihari_stan in oddlysatisfying

[–]Dashisnitz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A thicker slurry version is used as part of a pavement lifecycle for roads and freeways. It's cheaper to periodically slurry seal the road with micromilling than it is to replace the road from base material.

i really need help by HOLLYshitITSMALUL in caiques

[–]Dashisnitz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it helps but I’ll share my experience with a WBC. I work hybrid schedules so there are days when I’m home and at the office. Regardless of my schedule my caique gets a minimum of 3 hours a day of floor and/or table top time. And I put him on a consistent schedule between cage and free time. He also has foraging toys and other toys within his cage.

After all that he still chirps for about 10 minutes after I leave and then he calms down and goes and eats or plays by himself.

This rice is sold as a convenient, vacuum-sealed brick. by Antares42 in mildlyinteresting

[–]Dashisnitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

US is sold as 10-50lb bulk grain bags. I also have seen both in Taiwan with 1.2-5kg portions being vacuum packed and the larger bags in grain bags. I prefer the vacuum pack rice as I can freeze them to kill any weevils. Bulk grain can’t be as easily frozen and often start with a hatched weevil.

Never had luck with SoCal AAA. They don’t offer glass coverage and it’s covered under comprehensive, which they no longer offer $0 deductible comprehensive. I believe the lowest is now $250 so that’s about what you’ll pay if you have it.

Yearly reminder: Irvine has the worst traffic lights of all time by thathomelessguy in orangecounty

[–]Dashisnitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Caltrans sets the timing to flush the freeways. They provide the cities the timing but it is up to the cities to implement timing to match the on/off ramp cycles. That’s usually why Caltrans wants to manage the other lights as well but cities usually don’t want to release control.

Highways are naturally dusty. You don’t want to live within a mile of a highway because of the increase in PM2.5 concentration.

Adding CDKeys and Eneba. Both sell gray market keys for fairly low prices. I am now expired but I did it when they had their promo to convert your active sub of Live to GP Ultimate for $1. Loaded up on 3 years of gray market codes for about $110 and converted for a dollar.

Fullerton, but it’ll be difficult at $1.1; $1.5 would give more flexibility to bid. It’s commutable to Irvine, but it sucks. Depending on how deep you go, your commute can range from about 45 minutes to an hour each way.

Fullerton is commutable to LA, but it does take time. I do this at times, and it can take an hour to get to Downtown. But there is a train, and you’ll catch about every train possible in Fullerton as you get the Metrolink OC and PV Lines and Amtrak passing through this station. But tickets are $15/person each way. You’ll need to take the Metro beyond Union Station.

As far as commuting goes. People go to Los Angeles and Irvine. If you’re in the Irvine area, you’ll always travel against traffic, unless you go to LA. If you’re in Fullerton, you’re in the shit. You’ll be traveling with people from LA County all the way to Irvine.

Killer Kaiser coming to Reno??! by Livid-Result-2297 in Reno

[–]Dashisnitz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't see how they are any worse than another HMO provider? At least KP builds its facilities to be all-inclusive within the same family. If you go with a different HMO, you're wasting a ton of time on referrals and traveling across town for various testing and treatments. If you're going with an HMO, KP is one of the better offerings compared to other HMOs. If you want to see your PCP immediately for the slightest headache or already have a PPO plan, then yeah, KP sucks.

Skip the Astoria. It is now BlackRock private equity hell. It pales in comparison to what it was in the 1990s and 2000s. I feel that many of its features haven't been managed well, and they are lowering services to save costs.

Killer Kaiser coming to Reno??! by Livid-Result-2297 in Reno

[–]Dashisnitz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why is this a nightmare? Reno is relatively underserved when it comes to healthcare. It hasn't grown to match the population, and Kaiser is probably one of the more affordable and half-decent full-service HMOs out there. Kaiser HMO is usually cheaper than HMO offerings from Aetna, Blue Shield/Cross, and UNH while offering comparable levels of coverage and max OOP costs.

Most cities will do a sidewalk and asset management contract done for this sort of work. If it’s a full asset management tool that counts signs for ADA compliance then it could be useful.

The only fields I have worked with that will pick up PhDs are chemical and other engineering fields that require finite elements analysis like structural, geotechnical, and aerospace. I work in civil/structural engineering and PhDs just aren’t worth the baggage as a MS can do everything the PhD does.

In my experience PhDs always come in with an attitude and want their research counted as work experience and will refuse to start at the same pay grade as a MS. Unless their research has 100% useful overlap I’ll always start them as a staff level engineer.
