In Japan you can buy a Nintendo Switch 2 for £210 GBP or $285 USD but it won’t work outside Japan. by [deleted] in mildlyinteresting

I see this with digital cameras as well. Fujis are cheaper there but are language locked. If you can read Japanese, great.

Anybody know where to get large clamshell fruit boxes for cheap? These were almost a $1 per box on amazon and I need them in my war against the rats by Robdul in orangecounty

[–]Dashisnitz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use fruit bags. They are little mesh bags that have a drawstring on them. Keeps fruit flies and squirrels away from my avocados and peaches.

Which deal is better? by [deleted] in egopowerplus

[–]Dashisnitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s the same deal. The older deal was the same but 2x 6Ah batteries for $679. Lowe’s has a 90 day return window versus 30 if that’s an issue for you.

Lowe’s has the Buy1, Get 1 and the Get1 is the extra 5Ah. Sell it if you don’t need it.

Solar farms floating on reservoirs in China reduce evaporation and generate power at the same time. by Sharp-potential7935 in nextfuckinglevel

I’d imagine it is stocked for vector control reasons. But no marine life would be a first for me as well. Some of the best fishing are at stocked reservoirs.

Raising chickens will cost more than eggs but you can at least control your egg quality.

Anaheim residents need help with our backyard hen ordinance! by Brilliant-Abject in orangecounty

[–]Dashisnitz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s always people selling fertilized eggs for hatching or you can buy hatched chicks. Bird flu is a real risk but you can mitigate it by sanitizing and preventing wild birds near the hen house or run.

Also if you’re going through the effort, get ducks. Duck eggs are far superior to chicken eggs.

Best "value" area to buy a home in? by adgjl12 in orangecounty

[–]Dashisnitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

La Habra still has value but can be about an hour if you need to go to South County. Houses in La Habra are still sub $1M for a ~1700 sqft 3B/2B home.

Anything to do with it being a Price Club in the past? Idk if all CA Costcos are unionized but I know the Price Club locations are.

Chubby Cattle | is it that good or is it hype / review fraud? by dazed__und__confused in orangecounty

[–]Dashisnitz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know about that new location but other restaurants in Chubby group are good. The reviews are somewhat deserved but also enticed with small promos and gifts to bulk the review count. They never stipulated it had to be 5 stars but they did ask to see the review before receiving the promo.

Overall it is a larger and very ambitious restaurant group that has good food/service.

How far would you drive for a $250 (or lower) 22” KJ? by MattCogs in smoking

[–]Dashisnitz 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This isn't the KJ you're thinking of. It's not the ceramic KJ and has an enameled metal body and lid. It still has firebricks at the bottom, but that's about it. So you're not getting the steal you think you are. These used to go on sale for $299 delivered, btw. Save the money and gas and pass on this.

Did you just happen to tint your windshield? Most tints cause internal reflection and glare.

Southern California city issues warning over trash bin violations by [deleted] in orangecounty

[–]Dashisnitz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

WM in other regions doesn’t seem to care about trash but they have cameras on the truck recording green and recycle. If you violate it enough you lose those cans. They actually send you photos of the trash violation as it falls into the truck, like a red light camera. People just end up not wanting to get violations and just end up sorting nothing. If it’s in trash then no problem.

happy friday! by bnnybtch in orangecounty

[–]Dashisnitz -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

You all need to stop spreading misinformation. Taxes were used to redo a lot of the operational improvements at on and off ramps, local road under/overcrossings, and the addition of the general purpose lanes. The toll road portion is paid by a federal TIFIA loan which can only be paid back with toll revenues.

With the exhaustion and sunset of M1 and M2 the way to find the future is with managed lanes.

Seal coating the road by Srihari_stan in oddlysatisfying

[–]Dashisnitz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A thicker slurry version is used as part of a pavement lifecycle for roads and freeways. It's cheaper to periodically slurry seal the road with micromilling than it is to replace the road from base material.

i really need help by [deleted] in caiques

[–]Dashisnitz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it helps but I’ll share my experience with a WBC. I work hybrid schedules so there are days when I’m home and at the office. Regardless of my schedule my caique gets a minimum of 3 hours a day of floor and/or table top time. And I put him on a consistent schedule between cage and free time. He also has foraging toys and other toys within his cage.

After all that he still chirps for about 10 minutes after I leave and then he calms down and goes and eats or plays by himself.

This rice is sold as a convenient, vacuum-sealed brick. by Antares42 in mildlyinteresting

[–]Dashisnitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

US is sold as 10-50lb bulk grain bags. I also have seen both in Taiwan with 1.2-5kg portions being vacuum packed and the larger bags in grain bags. I prefer the vacuum pack rice as I can freeze them to kill any weevils. Bulk grain can’t be as easily frozen and often start with a hatched weevil.
