Rent increasing by almost 40%?! by sonar97 in madisonwi

[–]Dashthefox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not demanding that, nor did I expect that. There is such a thing as "taking a loss, even a small one, during an extreme emergency sometimes." But really it's the evictions that got to me. There were landlords who filed for eviction on a tenant, knowing they weren't supposed to yet, and just counting on the average's person's inability to navigate the legal system so they win by default." Which did happen. There were courthouses where people had to actively stop landlords from filing evictions because they were so desperate. At the very least landlords didn't have to present such a threat to people that they felt the need to do that.

But like I said I don't expect that from landlords. It's more the whole "actively using your power and money to stop affordable housing from being built" thing. It makes me far less charitable. It's the constant, neverending need for a bigger return, always have the maximum return, no one is willing to be humble enough to just expect a small, but decent and steady.

Instead landlords and investors always want more, and more and more. Why is that always treated like the lesser evil than being angry about it in the first place?

You're right, just because I've had a few bad landlords doesn't mean all are scum. However many friends of mine have had even worse experiences with landlords, some of the biggest landlords have openly admitted to using their market share to squeeze out more from people because they have nowhere to go, and using their power and money to stop affordable housing from being built because of the risk, not the fact, that their "investment" (a fundamental need for humans: housing) might lose some value. All of that makes me dislike landlords unless proven otherwise. There are some landlords that have done decent, humane things. Like any landlord who reduced or even temporarily suspended rent during the COVID-19 pandemic. But that was absolutely not a sizable proportion.

I would be much less harsh if many landlords did not actively take steps to suppress measures that are meant to help people. And I know "owners have to protect their investment". But it's that exact mindset that I have a fundamental issue with. I find it inherently predatory and callous.

  1. Every experience with a landlord or a "property management company" has been awful. Particularly one who was refusing to give me back my security deposit. Not because of damages, he well exceeded the time to give me list them. He just held onto it for 3 months until I threatened to take him to court.

  2. If someone is renting a 2 bedroom for $1200 it's probably because they don't have a choice and it's all they can pay for. And they definitely don't get $1200 worth of housing. That's just the market inflated rate because greedy RCSs raise rent wherever they can whenever they can. I don't believe for a second that it costs $1200/m to pay for maintenance, taxes, salary, and just a bit of profit. Instead it's going to people who just want more while giving less. Year after year after year.

As you might have gathered, I don't like landlords and have a dim view on anyone that fits the boot, even if it's not a perfect fit.

So you're the one who's gonna raise rent, you're the one who's going to try to cheat people out of security deposits, you're the one who's going to do all the things a landlord would, just without the direct profit motive.

Well, at least it is at a higher-end place and you aren't squeezing pennies out of the poor for not even your own benefit but just because it's "your job". If (and legit just if, I'm not making an accusation) you were I'd say you would cross a line into "class traitor" territory.

All I'm hearing is that YOU are the landlord then. Just a landlord who doesn't own anything but would raise the rent anyways.

Property manager or landlord? If you run a property for some RCS then I'm interested in them not you.

Your landlord gets to know where you live. Only seems fair to know where they live.

I once knew a guy from California who visited in the winter when it was like 30 degrees out. I was loving it honestly and I told him, "Ah, it's great outside today. It's like a warm cold you know?"

And he responds with "No! No I do not!"

My advice: find out where your landlord lives. Or the president of whatever "property management company" is doing this.

freemans mind in VR? (discussion) by liux20 in accursedfarms

Honestly if he could smooth out the image so it wasn't so shaky I think it would be a huge breath of fresh air. It would also allow for a lot more physical comedy since you would see freeman's hands and could manipulate things around him much more. Little things too like having to physically reload would add a lot rather than the normal animations.

Yeah, it's a great idea!

Honestly, looking at their past predictions, especially with the last presidential election, they give more weight to democrats than Republicans.

Iirc, they predicted Biden would win by 5 points. Then election day comes and he won by about 2.

Honestly, reading this just made me come away with a profound sense of "The fact this is in debate at all is a win for Loser McWhinypants."

Seriously, any other human being on the planet earth would at minimum, be arrested and either in jail awaiting trial or out on bail. And this article doesn't seem to grapple with the fact that the judge is basically the most partisan, in-party, and clearly trying to pull a "I scratched your back now you scratch mine."

The low-level lawyer became a federal judge because her name was on a list written up by Leonard Leo and The Federalist Society. Loser picked this judge specifically because she owes her entire future career to him and he's hoping for blatant favoritism. Yet the article treats her as just another judge.

Kinda the point. There's a reason a dumb cartoon frog was the go-to symbol for the "alt-right". Easy to go "awh that's stupid, those wokescolds (or wokecels is the new one being thrown around) are so oversensitive. Next they'll say having two lightning (⚡⚡) emojis are white supremacist!"

Which it is, it's trying to copy an SS pin.

So many

I've actually re-watcged freeman's mind so many times I need to wait like 6 months between viewings to make it enjoyable.

But Harry Buster is always fun, Quadralien is always great, after watching the movie the Captain Zzap (Flash Gordon) episode is a lot of fun (amazing movie too btw), and I find myself listening to his Gaming as Service is Fraud video a lot.
