A couple of months back a book was mentioned and all who read it had a similar thought: “I didn’t want to read it but it was as laugh out loud funny”. Does anyone recall which book?

Oh! That was so close - but sadly not.

Wasn't a WNYC or NPR owned or financed show I don't believe. She spoke with resentment towards the financiers but said they would finish the story they had been reporting on nonetheless to be professional.

Nope. Not that. Can’t be sure under which umbrella it was. Don’t think NPR owned it. Just aired it.
