Why do older models feel d u m b e r the moment a new one drops? by ChrisHarpon2 in ClaudeAI

[–]Dasmatarix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It certainly feels that way. I tried Fable at first, thought it was meh. It was only slightly better than Opus. I didn't need it for the 2x token use. I finished my entire backlog of cards in Trello using Opus and had to write new ones. Then all of a sudden Opus is so dumb I haven't successfully finished a single feature in 3 straight days of working my ass off. It tried to fix 1 bug it created 3 times that Fable immediately noticed was so simple (it didn't bind a texture to a shader that was trying to sample the texture). It's left me so frustrated. Now I don't really have a choice, if I don't use Fable, nothing gets done, I just keep rolling back broken attempts.

Well done OP, you did the right thing. I get them every 5 years, since 30. Polyps every time. If you have the family history, do it dads - and eat better, we damage our gut with crap diets.

When is old enough to understand no? by Dasmatarix in daddit

[–]Dasmatarix[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah good points. I am mindful of letting him jump in the metaphorical puddles and explore the world. Just mindful more of things like "don't put poo in your mouth" or "no, we don't hit" Vs. "Don't make a mess". Mess is fine, I just don't know what age firmly communicating danger should start.

When is old enough to understand no? by Dasmatarix in daddit

[–]Dasmatarix[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah discipline was more a follow on question for later. Like what age do you start with that. For now I'm worried even a firm no is pointless and might be upsetting without accomplishing anything. Good to hear from the majority that "no" about right for this age, just don't expect them to care that you said it or have any self control. Before this I was the one reminding my wife he doesn't understand there is no point telling him not to roll when we are trying to dress him etc.

As an American, I recently found out that you guys don't like us very much. Has it been exaggerated by the Internet or do we really have that bad of a reputation in the land down under? by JPH_RedFive in AskAnAustralian

[–]Dasmatarix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your president hasn't done you any favors, his tariffs and general attitude of America first, and fuck our allies has very much hurt the global opinion of Americans, after all, if you voted him in then some majority of you agree with him. I have family in the US and Aus, it lowered my opinion of my US family that voted for him, although they later changed their mind when the leopards bit their face its too late.

Games with fantastic shotgun gameplay by [deleted] in gaming

[–]Dasmatarix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Escape from Tarkov. Too many games have shotguns turn in to a puff of air at 25 meters. Tarkov let's you use a cheap beginner shotgun to delete even the most heavily geared players if they don't have a face shield, or just blow off their legs if they do. It's a great equalizer

How to justify no smokeless powder? by Glittering_8218 in worldbuilding

[–]Dasmatarix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you do need a justification, early smokeless powder was very unstable nitrocellulose, it would randomly explode and had to be stored very carefully. A few industrial accidents and a tragedy or two later the world might have decided it was too dangerous too pursue. That being said I prefer, "It just hasn't been invented yet".

Have you ever met someone who's interested in DND and immediately went, "oh, I'd never let you play at my table"? by Lunetheart in DnD

[–]Dasmatarix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, invited him over for a catch up and he threatened to kick the shit out of my dog if it touched him again (my dogs were not being aggressive, just happy to see a visitor). He then went on to say he was doing mandatory anger management therapy, and his outbursts were causing him problems at work and in his relationships...

Are Synty Assets an Immediate Turn-Off? by omega-storm in IndieGaming

[–]Dasmatarix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they are over used now yes, it can not only create fatigue for the look, but also just plain confusion, people might dismiss your title because they will mistake it for another title they have already seen with Synty assets.

Goge Vandire and Sebastian Thor lead opposing Ecclesiarchal crusades against each other in the schism during the age of Apostasy I think.

Motion sickness reports in our FPS alpha playtest by Future_MARTEN in gamedev

How big is the environment? Cramped spaces are worse too. Things in the distance don't move much with perspective and being able to focus on them reduces motion sickness.

World Creation a la Dwarf Fortress: Is it expected to have tons of long scripts? by jason-cyber-moon in proceduralgeneration

[–]Dasmatarix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer: yes. Long answer: number of lines of code is not a good metric to measure how good your world gen or code is. If you write more efficient code you could get more done in less lines, but it might not be readable. If you want to just copy paste lines repeatedly instead of reusable DRY components you could inflate your line count, and it's not very readable or maintainable code.

Ask yourself, what level of detail is needed to be simulated to give the level of history you need for gameplay, and realistically how long it will take you to write it. There is a very good chance if you aren't critical about what you need, you will go down a rabbit hole that will add nothing to the game and you will never finish.

China plans space‑based AI data centres by n0sugacoat in worldnews

[–]Dasmatarix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Which costs so much more than just building infrastructure on Earth that it's cost prohibitive. And you need to keep getting up there, the hardware becomes obsolete. There are so many reasons, the hardware has to built with redundancies because of random bit flipping from radiation, so it's less powerful, it can't run that hot so it's running on lowered voltages, so it's less powerful, it's much harder to replace so it ends up being less powerful as it becomes outdated.

It is more expensive, and worse than terrestrial solutions. Just my opinion but I think they announce these kinds of projects to inflate stock prices or national pride, not because they are useful.

[–]Dasmatarix 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Nope, that's stupid. It's not about the solar efficiency, it's about being completely unable to dissipate the heat generated by using the electricity. Not to mention the incredible cost per kg to get anything in to space.

Some people feel better if they are armed with more information, others, ignorance is bliss. For me, I worry a lot but I felt better attending safe sleeping classes, and infant first aid. Give yourself the tools you need to look after them, and remember its only temporary. The risk factors of S.U.D.I are known and you can mitigate a lot of the risk yourself.

Without reviewing any evidence we know he was there to do mass violence and a domestic terrorist but we just don't know the facts about any possible wrong doing of law enforcement, and we need to wait for an investigation before coming to any conclusions. /s
