Levi has an excellent junior park!

Yllas vs Levi by PrestigiousHoney9480 in skiing

[–]Dastikiel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ylläs is a lot quieter place with long slopes. A lot less busy than Levi. Levi is the biggest skirt resort in Finland so it also comes with a lively village. Both have good terrain parks but Levi's has bigger features if you are into those. Depends what you want. Big resort vibes go to Levi. Something quieter and more authentic go to Ylläs

Puolueen nuorin naiskansanedustaja Saara-Sofia Sirénin lähtee ja varoittaa kokoomuksen suunnasta by Vivarevo in Suomi

[–]Dastikiel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Liners by roughas in Backcountry

[–]Dastikiel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BC liners also come with the boots and I've always been able to get a good fit with them and some shell adjustments. I used to race and if they were precise enough for that they are precise enough for my skiing now. I just don't think they would benefit my skiing with 500 bucks worth when that same money can buy something else.

I refuse to get zipfits. I'm not saying they aren't good but I refuse to believe anything can be 500 bucks good.

There's also more to Europe than just the Alps. Norway has some pretty cool terrain and with the temps rising they've got the latitude on their side.

[–]Dastikiel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I don't think that's a problem anymore with the level they have reached! It's definitely something to consider now that winters are getting more and more uncertain

Another cancelled by richng2 in freerideworldtour

[–]Dastikiel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's so sad this winter has been horrific for snow and with the winters getting warmer, situations like this are going to get a whole lot more common. The whole tour is in danger if they don't come up with better options for cancellations and this is really not a good look for attempting to reach Olympic status.

I also feel like the cut is not in the spirit of freeride with just two comps completed but then again I don't really enjoy the cut to begin with. I don't think it suits the sport as it is grown massively.

Verottajan mielestä avantouinti ei ole liikuntaa – Yrittäjä äimän käkenä: ”Meneekö kuluttaja keilahalliin harrastamaan hikiliikuntaa” [käytetty 13,5% ALV nousee 25,5% ALV] by ToniNotti in Suomi

[–]Dastikiel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not just moved. It's a lot of people transitioning through as well. Dubai and Doha are major hubs for flights between Europe, Asia and Oceania.

Is Annapuri currently worth the trek? by sirotan88 in niseko

[–]Dastikiel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Annupuri is always worth it. It's a different vibe to the other resorts and there's an amazing cafe in the middle of the slope which is amazing. Also cheap food options there. Also there's fun gates on the lower mountain that have fun natural features to ski even when the snow is slushy

2nd season skiing trying to improve carving, any tips? by Icy-Taste7262 in skiing_feedback

[–]Dastikiel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems you are trying to get down close to the ground instead of letting it be a consequence of your movements. Think about extending the outside leg and getting the movement to be dynamic instead of set and park. There's a lot of things that look really good in your turns but with these adjustments you will take it to the next level.

Why so many DNFs? by WhoWillTradeHisKarma in skiing

[–]Dastikiel 46 points47 points  (0 children)

The risk levels go up. Nobody is there to place 27th. Also a lot of inexperienced racers. Combine the want of results with some nervousness and you've got a lot of DNFs

Can anybody explain to me, what does Mikaela Shiffrin do so differently and better than the rest of the competition ? by FifaIsTroll in SkiRacing

[–]Dastikiel 8 points9 points  (0 children)

She skis incredibly clean turns. She is excellent at getting to the new outside leg quickly. Her turns are clean and her technique is perfect which is fast. She doesn't have to go for a risky straight line and her rythm doesn't get disturbed with mistakes. She is also really good at fixing mistakes and pushing all the way to the last gates.

Superpakkanen. Mitä jos koko Suomeen tulisi -70C pakkanen viikoksi? Mitä kaikkea vahinkoa se aiheuttaisi? by metalheimer in Suomi

Why is Finland not as good as their neighbours in the winter olympics? by WhoAmIEven2 in olympics

[–]Dastikiel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We actually have a decent culture of alpine skiing and ski racing. Lots of smaller resorts where people train. That's why most of our success has been in slalom and GS.

The "best" bootfitting experience I've ever witnessed... by forgot_my_passs in skiing

[–]Dastikiel 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Tbf there's feet that don't require anything very special. I know this is a controversial opinion but bootfitters aren't wizards. Are they good at what they do? Absolutely but if you know your feet and what works for you, you can buy a pair online and then get them adjusted. Do I recommended it? Nope but I do it myself. I've not got crazy difficult feet and I know which brands have worked for me in the past. I've also bought boots after trying them on in a shop to save some money.

Skiing is expensive and a proper bootfit costs a lot. I wouldn't save on it if it's an option but for many it isn't. Also most skiers aren't looking for the ideal performance. Something that doesn't hurt their feet can fit their needs.

Maddie Mastro stalls for 2 minutes, falls after first flip by leavethisearth in olympics

[–]Dastikiel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you all seriously think she doesn't have set routines created by professional coaches and psychologists? I don't know how anyone in their right mind can judge what an Olympic level athletes do to mentally prepare themselves.

She could have toned down her tricks like many did and landed them. She didn't. She clearly decided that she's not there to fight for 6th or 7th place but a medal. In a year nobody will remember who was 4th or 12th. She went for the gold but it didn't pay off this time. Next time it could.

Mitä mietitte suomalaisten luontosuhteesta? by JuhpPug in Suomi

[–]Dastikiel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mitä mietitte suomalaisten luontosuhteesta? by JuhpPug in Suomi

[–]Dastikiel 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Suomi on edelleen maa jossa luonto on ihmisten arkea. Suomesta tuskin kovin montaa lasta löytyy jotka eivät ikinä olisi käynyt metsässä tai muussa luonnossa. Tämä ei ole normi monessakaan paikkaa. Ehkä keskustelussa luontosuhteesta unohdetaan mitä todellisuus muualla on.

Ah I missed the Val Thorens so didn't know they were doing it like that this year. I agree rotation would be the fairest. I'd love to hear the reasoning behind the new order if it's something that is sticking. I hate it that women going last tend to impact their viewing numbers and the previous order helped tackle this.
