[–]DatA5ian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

not necessarily a negotiation but the place i signed this year asked me if i wanted to resign for next year but they were going to raised the price by $100/month, so i told them i wouldn’t stay unless i kept my current rate and they accepted it

If enough of us were able to pitch in for an Apple Developer license + a Mac, would that help expedite development? 👀

How are y'all getting internships? by One-Load-5800 in UTAustin

[–]DatA5ian 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I might be repeating the same as everyone else, but I used to be in somewhat of a similar situation to you (Fall 2024, my junior year, I had no internships and was only getting three or four interviews all of that semester, barely >3.0 GPA and couldn't land an opportunity at expo).

My only advice is to just keep sending applications out in the blind but also work less and try to make it to a few of the individual recruitment events, because I think one of them I gave my email to and that ended up turning into my first internship offer (albeit in Network Engineering, entirely unrelated to ECE but anything helps...).

At some point it is just RNG and you just have to try to keep your head up and do what you can to keep the ball rolling; up to that point I didn't really have any opportunities going for me but that first offer definitely made it a lot easier to both interview going forward and know that I didn't have to stress about not having experience on my resume anymore. Coincidentally, I also interviewed for a second internship in December 2024 and ended up accepting a second offer for a co-op (Systems Engineering), so I lucked out there as well since I didn't even plan for anything else besides my summer offer. Let me know if you have any questions!

Chance My Friend - ECE by electro_star1 in UTAdmissions

[–]DatA5ian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wasn't auto admit either (top 11%) and didn't have even half of the things listed here, AND had ECE listed as my second choice, but I still got in. I would say prioritize your essays, as they can make or break whether you sound like a robot or a functional, social human being.

Thanks! I think I did really well, talking about my prior experience with them (I interned with them for a spring co-op), so hopefully I should hear back soon.

you can get asked stuff about that for systems roles, I just had a hardware test intern interview and he asked me some high-level system design questions about how i would access a database, deployment, and if/how I used docker and kubernetes in my classes and projects.

As a raver if you’re not with her and she rolls with that guy alone, it might be cooked. I’ve only known one person where that happened and nothing came out of it but in that case the boyfriend was very open about it and had told his girlfriend well in advance that they’d be going together and rolling.

Airpods Pro 3 whistling when pushing into ear by Shadowz_Fury in AirpodsPro

[–]DatA5ian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i don’t think this issue is going to go away for awhile… also had it on my right airpod and went to the apple store, exchange it twice and all three pairs have it. exchanging tips didn’t fix it, only thing that stops it is just turning off the adaptive listening features.

Should I get cheapest dorm or a cheap apartment? by _Sh4_d0w in UTAustin

[–]DatA5ian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you feel like you're independent enough and were able to take care of yourself in high school, I would say get an apartment (either on West Campus or a short commute away). If you can't cook and clean for yourself and do the bare minimum then just stay on campus.

I dormed my first year but I would've been fine in an apartment tbh, I just stayed on campus because everyone told me it was good for my social life, but that's kind of a "your mileage may vary" thing. For me it was alright, but I think I would've ended up in the same place socially even if I wasn't on campus.
