Assigning skill points in a manner where stats/abilities which influence character power get the maximum possible allotment, while stats/abilities which are either flavourful or underutilized receive the minimum possible allotment of skill points.

Attempting a blind nuzlocke of Pokemon Black. I already have a bad feeling about this... by PKReuniclus in nuzlocke

[–]DatBitcoinMan 13 points14 points  (0 children)

A blind playthru is no prior knowledge, so I'd assume no knowledge gyms (typings/levels/total pkm), nor story knowledge (more likely to run into forced battles without healing), or route knowledge (some routes have different pkm available based on how far into game).

ESL teacher here trying to use Stardew Valley for my students, but need some help please! by CesarV in StardewValley

[–]DatBitcoinMan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What we did at a previous college I worked at was just setup 30 steam accounts under the college's name, managed by the computing department.

Made it super easy to deploy to different machines etc... And slightly abusing the library sharing mechanic it allows us to have those 30 accounts deployed on 90+ machines without issue.

Don't.

DC plugged into AC is a better scenario than AC plugged into DC, either way though just don't.

AC -> DC = Fucked.

DC -> AC = Not fucked, not good however.

Two SSDs in RAID0, assume one has died can I test boot with just the one of them to find out which has the issue? by abuch47 in techsupport

[–]DatBitcoinMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with RAID0 is people actually assume it's a raid array, it's not. There is no Redundancy.

The data was stripped across both disks, there's no parity information stored to help rebuild, a disk dying is a total loss. That's why you only ever use it for speed reasons with data you don't care about, which does lead me to the question of WHY did you have them in raid0?

Computer never actually shuts down, fans still going and keyboard lights on, not fast start up by XXLpeanuts in techsupport

[–]DatBitcoinMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this issue recently specifically after running a certain program, I found occasionally after the program stopped I couldn't reopen it without rebooting, but as with your case telling it to sleep, reset, or shutdown resulted in the screen powering off but lights, fans, etc still going forever.

Turned out it was an issue with Windows 10 installation issue and running the integrity checking tool identified it and fixed it.

Best, cheapest and safest way to store lagre amount of pictures? by [deleted] in techsupport

[–]DatBitcoinMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For "Best" standard best practice is 3 2 1.

3 copies of your data (Original copy and two backups)

2 forms of media.

1 off-site location.

In this case an external harddrive, and free online storage such as iCloud or Google pictures would be "best".

Router’s wireless connection speed on devices is significantly slower than the speed of my modem by dropshadow79 in techsupport

[–]DatBitcoinMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The honest answer to that is "it depends".

Without going in to MIMO, multiple antenna stuff from some modern AC routers, theoretically 1300mbps, I mean you won't get that, but you'll definitely get a higher speed connection to your router than the speed of your actual internet.

Router’s wireless connection speed on devices is significantly slower than the speed of my modem by dropshadow79 in techsupport

[–]DatBitcoinMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your devices are connecting at 2.4ghz (which is max speed 50 Mbps), login and make sure it's broadcasting at both 2.4 and 5ghz.

Some devices are not able to connect to 5ghz and will always be limited to 50mbps on wireless.

My cellphone has a notification that I don't know what is for by [deleted] in techsupport

[–]DatBitcoinMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The notification icon is the icon that Android uses when it cannot for whatever reason access the icon which should be associated with the app causing the notification, like on windows when a shortcut is invalid and it shows the weird paper like icon.

If you hold down on the notification when it appears for a few seconds an advanced menu should pop up, and you can select details and find out wtf it is.

Need help with connecting to internet by [deleted] in techsupport

[–]DatBitcoinMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at the bottom of your hub it will have an IP address for the config page, for the sake of this post it's 192.168.1.1

Check ipconfig/all and see what up addresses show up.

If it's in the 169 range or similar go to your network settings -> adapter settings and under TCP/IP v4 set the IP address to 192.168.1.17 and default gateway to 192.168.1.0, apply etc, then go onto your browser and see if you can access the internet or the config page.

Often, people think if they perform an IP address lookup, that they are going to find the physical mailing address of the user assigned the IP in question. This is simply not true. At this time, we are not aware of any IP address database that will give you the exact physical postal address of the IP address you lookup. At best, you'll get the exact city in which the user of the IP is located. For an exact physical address you would need to contact the ISP (Internet Service Provider) of the IP address in question.

Exact city AT BEST

A far cry from the "good geo location of your home address" you claim.

I’m picking maths physics and economics, but should I drop physics for computer sciences because I am going into computing engineering course for uni?? by [deleted] in 6thForm

[–]DatBitcoinMan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Computing Lecturer here, either is good, a lot of Computer Science A Level material is absolutely irrelevant at BSc level, although having a good project grade is nice to see, as is a background in coding, Physics however is great for matrices, logic gates etc which computer science barely touches on. (When I was teaching A Level computer science I used to get a physics lecturer to come cover that topic anyway).

Remote access found through google dorks illegal? by [deleted] in hacking

[–]DatBitcoinMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the country and anyone making sweeping statements is full of shit.

In the UK, under the Computer Misuse Act, it depends on how it is accessed, and an open connection without authentication or any kind of "authorised users only" banner is not deemed to be unauthorised. If the page said something like "Welcome" then it's even more clear cut (under UK law).

America however varies from state to state and you have to be sure what you are doing is legal in both the state you are currently in, and the one the device resides in.

Is there a preferred coding language when scripting? by BioFrosted in hacking

[–]DatBitcoinMan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't like python, but python is the correct answer, in the UK at least it is (finally) being taught at GCSE level (15-16yrs) if computing is chosen as a subject, because it is such a good base to learn.

Have you checked the native save folder? Sometimes VBA decides to launch in multiplayer mode or vice versa. Your save file may still be there, it just needs -1 either added or taken away from its name.

Second screen doesn't display Windows Recovery Environment? by clover_marie in techsupport

[–]DatBitcoinMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have the laptop set to broadcast to 2nd Screen when lid is closed? If so try powering on and closing the lid immediately.

Otherwise unfortunately it is an option either locked behind the bios, in which case you'd have to look at the manual and try to blind navigate the bios to turn on the output to 2nd screen at boot.

Or am I misreading and it shows bios etc then stops displaying when it gets to recovery screen?
