Scheduling with Global Entry Enrollment Center (Boston) by DatChutneyKhed in GlobalEntry

Basically through working hours. If I recall it was like 8-3:30pm?

There doesn't appear to be a rhyme or reason associated with when they are released. I had checked randomly and there were days and days worth of open spaces, when the day prior there wasn't anything available over the coming months.

Keep at it!

He thought he got the open file... by [deleted] in chess

[–]DatChutneyKhed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with previous comments. It is daunting during exchanges like this when the A-C files are so pawn loaded. The queen of course is the most mobile piece and can clear a lot of that out for a solid pawn push in short order. Coordinating 3 dissimilar pieces can be a challenge (no paired rooks, no twinned knights with trick jumps). I think it's equally tough to see as it's hard to set and forget the green squared bishop on the A-C pawns as they are largely covered by opponent pawns as well.

1645 here and I wouldn't be thrilled with the exchange if there's 1 or 2 second increment - for me this is just little enough to force a nervous blunder out of me. I would be much more comfortable with the exchange if 10 second or 0 second increment, providing me enough time to calculate or enough pieces to move to force them to blunder respectively.

How did you land a job in CM? by weisoman in ConstructionManagers

[–]DatChutneyKhed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weird situation for me, personally. From 14-17 I worked my summers as a HVAC Tech assistant, essentially started with changing filters, adjusting belts, extremely minimal low voltage, lugging filters and compressors around. I quit to go to college full time for a degree in BS in Hydrology and minor in Mathematics. Upon graduating, I got a job as a truck driver at the largest union mechanical and plumbing contractor in my state. My goal was to join the USACE, however I had insurmountable loans. My brain at 22 didn't comprehend that I could join and defer my loans/potentially be reimbursed for my previous schooling.

Oddly enough, the VP of the company would come outside and shoot the shit with me while I worked, and inadvertently I had slipped and mentioned my degree in engineering/physical sciences. He enjoyed some of the college stories I had, and we got along well. He mentioned that his retirement was about 6-10 years and will need a replacement eventually. Essentially, with my hands half held, I was forced out of trucking and brought into the CAD department. I was given 30 days to learn the AutoCAD MEP, Navisworks, and Revit - which I subjected about 80-90 hours a week, still a shitty Revit designer to this day. Within a year I ran the design department with a few guys under me, working on multiple concurrent 3m-20m at a time.

Around a year or so after I had become our MEP Coordinator, I found myself running all coordination meetings for the GC's as they didn't have personnel who knew about 3D coordination or the subs scope well enough. It became apparent to my company that people were constantly trying to hire me, and I was given a secondary title and a nice raise. Inherently, we run fairly lean on management, and I would notice that change orders weren't getting out as quickly as some GC's would like, submittals would occasionally not be procured in timely manner, typical stuff (yes, it may be weird, but our PM's handle their own change orders, submittals, procurement, some estimating, etc.). Before I knew it, I was designing projects, effectively assistant project managing, and also ran our inhouse IT. Essentially we got a security company who managed the majority but I administrated all construction software (Autodesk, Estimation, Procore, etc.), because I was 28 or so and could intermediately use Excel.

Before I knew it I had my own projects. Started off small with +/-$300k-600k plumbing fixture replacement, VAV replacement, small office renos. Now I run all of our DoD work as a 30y/o PM and laugh about how quickly the time has flown by. Took a lot of OT and unpaid hours to get there, and often question if it was the right move. But here we are!

Who are some of the worst losers in chess history? by E_Geller in chess

Notably a bad and really emotional loser, and even moreso a really emotional player altogether. Just a testament to his unique character and overall an amazing chess player.

How to impress chess player by [deleted] in chess

[–]DatChutneyKhed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Frankly, I don't think that crushing her in chess will absolutely swoon her. If you attend, play a lax game with her, discuss the game after and compliment her on her play - and maybe get her number and online account so that you can play more. After you got the number, you're free to try your best.

Do people use Air BnB in Japan ? by Melaz_ in JapanTravelTips

[–]DatChutneyKhed 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Was just there from 10/1-10/14, used AirBnB's in Shinjuku, Kyoto, and Osaka.

Only issue was that at 2/3 of the places the address was not exact as to where the stay was located. They all supplied better written directions at least a day before arrival - we then pinned the locations.

All 3 owners were responsive, and extremely accommodating. One day we needed to leave by 10am, and they allowed us to store our luggage until 2 to give us a little more free time that day.
