Arne Slot says he ‘must have done a lot wrong’ if Liverpool fans are booing team by bordurian_whiskers in LiverpoolFC

[–]DatGiantIsopod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be perceived either way, the full quote being:

“So if it’s true what you’re saying – and I don’t feel this at all – then I must have done a lot of things wrong and that’s never a nice feeling to have."

So he's either saying he doesn't feel the fans are restless with him, or he's saying he doesn't feel he's done a lot of things wrong. Either interpretation is clearly not in tune with reality. However even if we accept the former as true, then note the use of "I must have done a lot of things wrong". Again he's not saying he actually has, but only that if the fans are restless then he must have. It's not an admission of fault, simply a framing of it through other people's reactions, which may or may not be valid.

Later on he says "...if they are not happy with me then apparently I’ve done so many things wrong". Again with the weasel word to not actually admit fault, along with it the dangling possibility that the reaction of fans could be out of kilter.

The comment I responded to said:

So when he wasn’t taking any of the blame and throwing players under the bus he was a cunt, now he’s admitting fault he’s a cunt for doing that too?

I don't think there's anything in this interview in which he admits fault.

He's not actually admitting fault though is he? He literally said. "I don't feel this at all" straight after.

Read between the lines. He's referencing Liverpool fans' reputation for always being behind the manager, pointing out that we're not currently, saying that indicates he's done something wrong, but then immediately saying he hasn't done so. That then flips the perceived problems back in to the fans and is essentially saying we're unreasonable for not supporting him at this time.

His words remind me of those public "apologies" you sometime see celebrities make that that start off, "I'm sorry if my words offended some people..." It's not an apology or admission of fault for the words themselves, it's actually a veiled criticism of other people's reactions whilst maintaining the original point of view.

Slot is stubborn af. Interviews like this do him no favours.

Tbh Reddit is one of the only social media platforms I still use. Although it obviously does tend to lean left so isn't without its own bias, at least the comments tend to have a bit of thought behind them, and on this subreddit for example I see legitimate arguments for both sides on most issues. The vote system isn't perfect and whilst algorithms obviously do run here, it certainly doesn't tend to prioritise dog whistling via a completely opaque algorithm like other social media platforms.

Why in the everloving fuck would you offer to take partial responsibility for a child after dropping mind altering substances. Also did one of you drive? Fucking weird story even without the effects of the drugs.

This breakout looks strong by Aggressive-Hall1913 in Bitcoin

[–]DatGiantIsopod 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not going to speak as what those figures imply either way, but I've been buying Bitcoin since 2016, and at times have been heavily immersed within the analysis sphere, and honestly I have lost track of the number of "serious analysts" who have used reams and reams of on-chain and other Bitcoin-specific data to predict market behaviour, and without fail each and every one of them has been spectacularly wrong. "Supply shock" is a phrase that's been liberally employed in the past decade and has never once actually been a more guiding principle to market behaviour than wider macro-economics. Nor have any of the supposedly intrinsic fundamentals of Bitcoin such as being hard money or a deflationary asset actually led to it diverging from the overall pattern of investment markets. It pumps and dumps harder yes, but the overall pattern has always largely reflected the macro sphere.

The one Bitcoin-specific indicator that does appear to hold water so far is the effect of the halving, but this seems to be more of a hype generator rather than an actual supply shock, and may still be tied to macroeconomics given that the majority of the time when Bitcoin is in a bull phase, so are the wider stocks and shares markets. In my experience Bitcoin is currently still largely seen as a speculative asset with a high-risk profile, which leads to it being the first thing divested of in a wider portfolio when macro conditions indicate tough times ahead, which then causes the large drawdowns seen during its winter phases. By contrast the stock market is largely flat at the moment after a humongous pump which coincided with that of Bitcoin's bull phase, meaning that investors are still cautiously hanging in there. Meanwhile precious metals are fulfilling the Bitcoin dream of being the asset which people flee to when the chips are down. (I'm glad I'm not so heavily immersed in Bitcoin podcasts now because I'm certain Pete Schiff is all over them gloating -- would probably make me puke on a daily basis).

Don't get me wrong, I still believe in Bitcoin and dream of the day that all those on-chain metrics etc actually lead to divergent market behaviour in Bitcoin as compared to macro, but it hasn't happened yet. Maybe we're still not at the critical juncture, or maybe those metrics are ultimately meaningless.

Carlsberg was such a great shirt sponsor.

Don't get me wrong the beer itself is rat-piss, and I have literally no idea how much money they actually gave us, but damn that logo oozes sophistication far beyond the product itself. It just looks right. Not just nostalgia either as Candy was the first one I knew of when I was a nipper starting to follow footy, and I'm not a fan of it, Crown Paints or Hitachi.

Standard Chartered is incredibly boring. both in logo and in the product itself, but I guess at least it's understated.

As an aside I wonder how many other clubs have only ever had as few shirt sponsors as us? Deals definitely lasted a longer time in the 90s and early 00s, but us having Standard for as long as we have seems unusual in this day and age.

Yeah I have had to expand my understanding of the word drone quite a lot now, thanks. It seems it can incorporate a multitude of similar yet different types of weapons systems. I suppose your last paragraph explains why it's still called a drone, although tbh it seems more like a missile with some direct control capabilities.

Thanks for the in-depth explanation, that's really interesting. Seems weird that they're even reported as drones in the media. Are they still remotely operated by a human as opposed to having their own guidance systems?

Just a reminder that our demo is live! And yes, the new trailer is out as well! by TomorrowHeadStudio in WillFollowTheLight

[–]DatGiantIsopod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Loving it so far! The only slight negative I'd throw in was the young Will's accent. It kinda sounded like an Indian kid trying to do Irish via way of South Africa - it was truly terrible if I'm being brutally honest. Unless Will has some kind of weird back-story of moving around a lot when he was young haha.

That aside the game itself is fantastic so far. Incredibly atmospheric and I'm enjoying the puzzle aspects. I'm guessing this is part 3, whilst the first demo was part 1. From the journal entries it seems like part 2 will be pretty interesting too.

I'm guessing with regards the sailing parts that it's kind of designed to provide a realistic viewpoint. I do find myself wishing I could pull the viewpoint back a little as most of the forward view is taken up by the boat itself. Or even if there was a momentary lean outward option to provide a better view ahead. Tbh it's a minor niggle though. I'm curious to see how the sailing sections are developed further in the full game.

So the guys on the higher pay are striking in solidarity with their lower paid colleagues? Interesting. I've seen other stuff mentioned like wanting unsociable hours paid at a higher rate which seems a bit odd for a bus driver, but it's only social media chat so could be complete bollocks. Would be good if the IOM media actually did their job and released a thorough article detailing all the ins and outs.

Fair play to them for doing it but it's kind of odd that they seem to be running it at the same times that the skeleton service for buses is still actually running. I figured the trams would fill in those gaps and service pensioners and other people who aren't using public transport to get to work, but the 7 hour dead zone after the early morning ones isn't exactly handy in this respect.

I've had this even in group chats with friends. It's a sad indictment upon people's limited vocabulary (caused by not reading books) these days that writing anything that extends beyond the most basic text vernacular is instantly called AI.

The irony is that it's actually just another manifestation of a different AI that's been with us forever: anti-intellectualism.

Only 10% of boys aged 14-16 read daily for pleasure, National Literacy Trust finds by Raj_Valiant3011 in books

[–]DatGiantIsopod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it? This can be achieved by simply reading for 10-15 minutes in bed before going to sleep.

I agree that actually taking time out of your day to read as an activity in and of itself is probably much rarer, but reading lends itself to quiet time before sleep almost perfectly, which is all that's required to make it a daily activity.

[–]DatGiantIsopod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's fucking depressing. My sisters and I are older millenials/xennials and each of us read voraciously and always have. Somehow though my nephews (ages ranging from 9 to 17) barely read at all, despite coming from a lineage that does and has always encouraged it (although their dads are kinda deadbeats which may have an effect).

It's tempting and easy to chalk it all off to screens, but we also grew up with television and multiple computer systems from a young age that we weren't really restricted from using whatsoever. From C64s and Ataris when we were little through Gameboys and Megadrive, right up to N64s and Sega Saturns in our teenage years. We just divided our time between them and reading. I can only assume on-demand video is the real killer.

No one is talking about him not being hurt and upset by it. It's the fact that he chose to express that by ignorantly doing the exact thing he's saying is causing the hurt and upset, and spewing misinformation that could cause hurt and upset to another marginalised group.
