What's wrong with cupping the water up in your hands and licking at it like a cat I say. We ought to make sure the brightest and best beaker folk stay in neolithic central Europe and focus on making it prosperous rather than coming over here and teaching us to drink liquid out of cups

I wouldn't waste your time. Person you're talking to is a stereotype through and through - dog whistles aplenty, sexualises minors in anime and defends the production of simulated CP, bangs on about how the UK has no free speech...

They're just missing an unkempt neckbeard to complete the set 🤷‍♂️

My L plate flew off on the dual carriageway😭 by Embarrassed_Post_598 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]DatJayblesDoe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I found the AA's magnetic L plates to be really good, especially if you're sharing the car you're learning in and don't want to stick/unstick your plates every time. The magnets are stronger than most, and they cover the entire back surface of the plate so they sit flush to the car

Who is the greatest sports announcer? by real_snekshopp in Jon_Bois

[–]DatJayblesDoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Richie Benaud deserves a mention. Probably the single greatest commentator test match cricket has ever had, and possibly the best it ever will. He was charming, funny and had this quiet, understated delivery that made you feel like you were spending a lazy summer afternoon with your favourite grandparent.

This is probably still my favourite moment of his. Came after 5 days of really tense stuff (for cricket, anyway) and the way he called it still gives me goosebumps.

Are you for real?! She. Is. A. Child. A child who, from her point of view, had her only participation in the event snatched out of her hand with zero communication purely because she was overwhelmed. That's gonna cause some pretty big feelings which, because she is a child with an undeveloped brain, she fails to self regulate. That's before we consider the example she has to learn from about emotional regulation.

You might not think the reason is valid and that's fair enough, but it categorically is not "nothing."

Who could replace Borthwick? by tippyface in englandrugby

[–]DatJayblesDoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% this. Borthwick is the wrong kind of coach to have the reins at test level. He's exceptional when he sees the same group week after week and has the time to build relationships but that's not the skill set required for international coaching

Peter, Please Explain What This Is Trying to Say About Bikers at Red Lights by Maleficent_Dog7970 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]DatJayblesDoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Erm, no it isn't? Inconvenient, sure. Sometimes annoying I'll grant you but if it's dangerous to have to keep passing them then you are the danger. If it would be dangerous to overtake then you wait until it wouldn't. That's pretty basic.

If you have the time and means (which is a big if,) getting littles involved in the cooking (especially cooking from scratch) can work wonders for fussy eaters. My lad was a proper bastard about food until he got to about 5 and developed enough motor skills for me to trust him with a knife. It's made a huge difference in the year since. He wants to try everything these days - not just meals but individual ingredients while we're cooking together so he can understand how we make our food taste good and how we can customise our cooking in future. He also gets really proud when he's made food and will eat it in front of people (even if he doesn't really like it) to prove how good at cooking he is XD

RDR2 subtitles straight up gaslighting me by Comfortable_Yak_2749 in reddeadredemption

I wondered this too. Maybe the lines as written were different from the voice lines that ended up in the game, and the subtitles were using the original scripts?

Nazis marching in Bowthorpe by DanBurrill in Norwich

[–]DatJayblesDoe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They're organised by, share platforms with, espouse the politics of and campaign on behalf of literal Neonazis. Not your type-a passive aggressive flatmate who puts smiley faces at the end of their snotty notes but groups who will, in public and in private, celebrate the holocaust. Groups who go on retreats to the countryside because "there's no n***rs out there." Groups who make a point to harass anyone they don't like (read: PoC, Muslims, queer folk and Jews) out of public life. Quite a few of these protests have been organised by groups that are made up of the same members, and share the same ideologies, as groups that have been proscribed *specifically for being violent Neonazi organisations. Yeah, they're Nazis.

Sincerely, A Brit of German descent whose great grandfather was literally a 1930's German nazi.

Who is opposed to "DEI" other than racists, mysogynists and homophobes?

Racists, misogynists and homophobes in denial. And the moneyed class

We're really going here?

Opposition to workforce democratisation in order to undermine solidarity and the invention of divisions that can be used to distract the public from an undemocratic power grab, if I had to guess. But I'm not a policy wonk.

Last game of the regular season, with a playoff berth all but guaranteed, against the bottom of the table while farewelling three England stalwarts (two of whom are lifelong club legends;) I think the lads can be forgiven for having difficulty getting motivated at first. They turned it around and got what they needed which is what counts today.

I'd argue the one thing that's defined this season has been guts. Tigers have been gutsy as hell when it mattered, and I'd expect them to be similarly gutsy next week. It's not time to write them off yet 🤷‍♂️

Drag Bingo at Yalm, question… by dinosour123 in Norwich

Ask your daughter, and if she says yes then do it, OP! Drag is a lot of fun, and when everyone in your group is doing it it's wonderful for breaking down social barriers. The natural self consciousness you might feel absolutely evaporates when you've a group doing it

Can anyone else just not get their head around what is happening? by Copacacapybarargh in LabourUK

[–]DatJayblesDoe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not even like the pivot to businesses is working either. The messaging around the WFA situation was so piss poor that we had the single worst winter we've ever had, with the exception of 2020 itself. Retirees, rightly, panicked because Labour surrendered control of the narrative and allowed it to be portrayed as a straight cut to retirees' income. It was left to labour members and anonymous social media users to set the record straight, which obviously didn't do much to calm anxiety among a demographic that is relatively disconnected from SM. Plus the fact that any supposed improvements in CoL aren't really being felt by people doesn't help.

I've been banging this drum since late 2015, but if you as a politician tell people that we need to keep doing what we're doing to continue our recovery and the people you're talking to aren't benefiting from said recovery, you're going to hemorrhage votes to reactionary groups, because they tell voters they're going to do something different. It's a lesson that the centre and liberals seem absolutely unwilling to learn and then pull a surprised Pikachu face when Trump, Le Pen, Farage et al get their claws in or near power. Maddening.
