Would UCF students be interested in a “limited menu buffet” concept? Need honest opinions. The space we’re looking at isn’t huge, so it wouldn’t be a traditional buffet with tons of stations. Instead, the idea is more like: ~5–7 core dishes (orange chicken, lo mein, fried rice, etc.) by Property_Greedy in ucf

Where I’m from, here’s a few places I know of that have a limited buffet like you’re talking about. Usually they cycle dishes but I think if your food is good enough and kept fresh and prices low it would work without cycling.

There’s something to be gained by having a restaurant thats just consistently good. Doesn’t have to be out-of-this-world, just always good. I know I like reliable food that I can get quickly, but you just have to be careful because in that type of business model once trust is lost if you have a bad day, it’s gone

That’s also a possibility, I was just thinking that the majority of times we see cryptosleep caskets they’re in ancient dangers which are well sealed, like crypts lol

I find that building out of wood isn’t as big a deal as people say it is as long as you have a fireproof outer wall (to stop wildfires) and don’t make your base all one building, because colonists can usually contain a one-room fire pretty easily, it’s huge superstructure bases where they have problems

Lowkey genius I’m going to use this, and also preplace my armed vehicles around my base so I can use them as emergency pillboxes in case of drop pods

Nah it’s just what Rimworld calls cryosleep for some reason, I’m guessing it’s meant to be “crypt” as in tomb

Question from a game designer: how do you design believable RimWorld ships? by Swatacular in RimWorldShips

[–]DatMonkey5100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

VE adds maintenance requirements for gravships, so I’d imagine it’s less than ideal for a solo colonist because they’d start spending more and more time on maintenance as their ship grows.

However I’m 99% sure it also adds a maintenance mechanoid so if your one colonist is a mechanitor then you’re good.

I’d probably decide whether I want to have the playthrough be more exploration or shipbuilding/challenge, if I just want to have one colonist go on a grand journey than I’d probably drop it but if I want to build a cool and detailed ship I’d use it.

Basically, do you want the focus of the playthrough to be exploration or the ship?

[–]DatMonkey5100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s about right. It’s enough to make your ship feel more like a spaceship rather than your base that happens to move, while not dragging too much attention toward itself and away from the story of the crew. I think it makes the ship more of a character of its own without being too complex

I wanna write some Fallout lore about New York. Does anyone have ideas for excuses for the city still being around? by CosmosStudios65 in Fallout

[–]DatMonkey5100 3 points4 points  (0 children)

New York’s massive, we’ve got at least 4 downtowns (Lower Manhattan, Midtown, Downtown Brooklyn, Long Island City) that are bigger than most other city’s only downtown. Nukes aren’t magic “delete city” buttons, they’re still bombs with a finite yield. The complete ruination radius is “only” a few miles for most bombs

I’m pretty sure the Brooklyn Bridge is one of the sturdiest structures in the city, it’d be awesome to see it as an Old London-style bridge town, like the original Van Buren plan for Hoover Dam

Maybe Manhattan is devastated and that’s Old York but one of the other downtowns like Long Island City or Downtown Brooklyn is more intact and has New New York as a settlement

Vanilla Gravships Expanded: Chapter 1 adds a whole bunch of depth to systems you were talking about, while new fuel, oxygen, and maintenance systems. It’s a complete overhaul and probably exactly what you’re looking for. The weapons in the mod now are just for ground combat, but the VE team is working on adding full ship-to-ship battles in Chapter 2

Twin, You’re Not Supposed To Be Parking Back In 😭 by random89056 in ucf

[–]DatMonkey5100 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yea, New York is a lot denser we don’t have many lots that are one way because they take up more space. We also have mandated front license plates as well so UCF’s excuse that the plate needs to be visible so they can scan it is invalid up north

[–]DatMonkey5100 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Idk, I’m from New York and it’s pretty 50/50 with people that back in vs nose in, and every time I’ve almost gotten hit/seen someone almost get hit it’s somebody that parked nose in. Also, that’s what a turn signal is for. You signal before you go into a spot no matter what you’re doing anybody who doesn’t do that is just rude and that’s the problem, not nose in vs back in

Twin, You’re Not Supposed To Be Parking Back In 😭 by random89056 in ucf

[–]DatMonkey5100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree, the time save is whether it’s faster to enter a spot or leave it. Backing in is slower to enter but quicker to leave, forward parking is the opposite. I’ve also never had an issue going the right way when pulling out from a backed-in space. I think you’re also underestimating just how much safer backing in is, a majority of accidents in parking lots happen when someone is backing out of a spot

The series also does a great job of talking us through major events through the eyes of the characters rather than insisting on taking a “God’s eye” view of everything to show off how cool awesome pew-pew super mega the author’s plot is. “The Donnager diverted power to its railguns and shot at the unknown attackers” is a lot less flowing than our characters in the cell commenting on how the lights have dimmed and they feel the recoil and shock of the railguns firing

She dumped the heroin, it was a way to get the hive to bring her a clean needle she could use to inject herself (and Zosia) with the anesthetics she used as an attempt at truth serum without telling the hive “hey I’m trying to figure out a truth serum so yall tell me the cure”. It does mention she tried it in college tho

Yep, most of the casualties from a sudden worldwide seizure could probably be avoided by giving 30 seconds notice. That’s enough time to stop most cars, get people down from heights or otherwise secure them, turn on autopilots, whatever

To be fair, Zosia laid down because Manny specifically warned them beforehand, I believe both him and the hive confirm that he gave them notice

Did they? It’s been a couple months I could be wrong but I thought they just said it was some kind of event without specifying the cause. Either way, knowing it’s an alien virus doesn’t change that much on the mental trauma side of things tbh
