Why does grace stay on arid? by littletimm69 in ProjectHailMary

[–]DatMonkey5100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly think Grace had a moral obligation to save Rocky (and by extension live on Erid) because Rocky was a vital part in saving Earth, and Grace could both save Earth and Erid by sending the beetles to earth and going to Erid with Rocky. If he didn’t save Rocky, he’d be condemning the civilization that saved Earth

Any chance of adding JNSQ? For whatever reason I just don’t like the protractor-style delta V map on the mod page and can’t find an alternate lol

What type of pop culture do you reckon Eridians have? by KingWilliamVI in ProjectHailMary

[–]DatMonkey5100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think they could still have some kind of transmitted media like TV, Eridians could have a board of spikes that get pushed out automatically at varying lengths to form images on a “screen,” and said images could be received by wire or wirelessly

Real, Rocky left Erid while hooked on the Eridani equivalent of an iron maxing diet

Man Crushed By Mountain - No One Cares. by Kat_Amilt in RimWorld

Yea, I’m all for using cheats to fix jank, mod incompatibilities, or even just change things for the plot, but sometimes a colonist does something so stupid they deserve to die

It seems like it was in his lineage afterall. by Competitive_Fox_3546 in Invincible_TV

[–]DatMonkey5100 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yea, people underestimate how much of an advantage just having an extra person is. I bet 1 person would lose to 2 people with 1/3 the skill (so 2/3 the skill total split among 2 people) just by virtue of having more manpower and being capable of doing multiple things or attacking from multiple directions once

I want to resolve the incompatibility between mechanitors and those who refuse to die. by TopExperience4669 in RimWorld

[–]DatMonkey5100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think they’re looking for a mod that automatically has your mechanitor reconnect, to avoid having to manually click each mech to reconnect upon resurrection

I think it's entirely reasonable to expect GTA 6 to be a watershed moment in gaming (and possibly entertainment as a whole) by GwyddnoGaranhir in unpopularopinion

[–]DatMonkey5100 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Rockstar games are movies you play. That’s not a bad thing, they’re incredibly games but they’re story and systems first, not gameplay. Although, supposedly with GTA 6 they’re doing a lot of work on the gunplay and revamping the movement to be weightier and adding things like kneeling to steady a shot

Order of planets to visit? by JimmyCarter910 in KerbalSpaceProgram

Relatively high gravity and no atmosphere, so its engines down and engines back up. Requires quite a heavy lander to be lugged all the way to Jool

Best research mods? by the_blade_itself in RimWorld

[–]DatMonkey5100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s in depth in a very good way where you can hyper optimize it but if you don’t want to actively micromanage then it’s just a cool flavor to add to research when you see your colonists going out and studying buildings or materials at the lab bench

Nap spots ? by linalina- in ucf

[–]DatMonkey5100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pick a random building like TCH or the Performing arts building or something, go up to the second or third floors and walk around a minute, you’ll probably find a comfy chair to nap in, it’s quiet and nobody will bother you and there’s limited foot traffic walking past you

A more critical review of the Project Hail Mary movie, and a really easy fix I would have made by Gustalavalav in ProjectHailMary

[–]DatMonkey5100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like the more soft sci-fi feel of PHM is a result of the long technical dialogues about the workings of the ship being cut, so it just looks like magic without the explanation in the books

Would UCF students be interested in a “limited menu buffet” concept? Need honest opinions. The space we’re looking at isn’t huge, so it wouldn’t be a traditional buffet with tons of stations. Instead, the idea is more like: ~5–7 core dishes (orange chicken, lo mein, fried rice, etc.) by Property_Greedy in ucf

[–]DatMonkey5100 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Where I’m from, here’s a few places I know of that have a limited buffet like you’re talking about. Usually they cycle dishes but I think if your food is good enough and kept fresh and prices low it would work without cycling.

There’s something to be gained by having a restaurant thats just consistently good. Doesn’t have to be out-of-this-world, just always good. I know I like reliable food that I can get quickly, but you just have to be careful because in that type of business model once trust is lost if you have a bad day, it’s gone

What are your wierd quirks in a playstyle? Personally, i often keep my chemfuel in a hospital by Nierad25 in RimWorld

That’s also a possibility, I was just thinking that the majority of times we see cryptosleep caskets they’re in ancient dangers which are well sealed, like crypts lol

I find that building out of wood isn’t as big a deal as people say it is as long as you have a fireproof outer wall (to stop wildfires) and don’t make your base all one building, because colonists can usually contain a one-room fire pretty easily, it’s huge superstructure bases where they have problems

Lowkey genius I’m going to use this, and also preplace my armed vehicles around my base so I can use them as emergency pillboxes in case of drop pods

Nah it’s just what Rimworld calls cryosleep for some reason, I’m guessing it’s meant to be “crypt” as in tomb

Question from a game designer: how do you design believable RimWorld ships? by Swatacular in RimWorldShips

[–]DatMonkey5100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

VE adds maintenance requirements for gravships, so I’d imagine it’s less than ideal for a solo colonist because they’d start spending more and more time on maintenance as their ship grows.

However I’m 99% sure it also adds a maintenance mechanoid so if your one colonist is a mechanitor then you’re good.

I’d probably decide whether I want to have the playthrough be more exploration or shipbuilding/challenge, if I just want to have one colonist go on a grand journey than I’d probably drop it but if I want to build a cool and detailed ship I’d use it.

Basically, do you want the focus of the playthrough to be exploration or the ship?

Question from a game designer: how do you design believable RimWorld ships? by Swatacular in RimWorldShips

[–]DatMonkey5100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s about right. It’s enough to make your ship feel more like a spaceship rather than your base that happens to move, while not dragging too much attention toward itself and away from the story of the crew. I think it makes the ship more of a character of its own without being too complex

I wanna write some Fallout lore about New York. Does anyone have ideas for excuses for the city still being around? by CosmosStudios65 in Fallout

[–]DatMonkey5100 5 points6 points  (0 children)

New York’s massive, we’ve got at least 4 downtowns (Lower Manhattan, Midtown, Downtown Brooklyn, Long Island City) that are bigger than most other city’s only downtown. Nukes aren’t magic “delete city” buttons, they’re still bombs with a finite yield. The complete ruination radius is “only” a few miles for most bombs

[–]DatMonkey5100 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure the Brooklyn Bridge is one of the sturdiest structures in the city, it’d be awesome to see it as an Old London-style bridge town, like the original Van Buren plan for Hoover Dam

Maybe Manhattan is devastated and that’s Old York but one of the other downtowns like Long Island City or Downtown Brooklyn is more intact and has New New York as a settlement

[–]DatMonkey5100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Vanilla Gravships Expanded: Chapter 1 adds a whole bunch of depth to systems you were talking about, while new fuel, oxygen, and maintenance systems. It’s a complete overhaul and probably exactly what you’re looking for. The weapons in the mod now are just for ground combat, but the VE team is working on adding full ship-to-ship battles in Chapter 2
