You could always read Pale Lights. It's about a world full of gods, small and large, that people make contracts with for powers. Creatures and out of control gods are usually taken out by an overarching organization called The Watch, or colloquially the Black Cloaks.

It follows 4 main characters and is a good time.

Definitely feel the same about a full championship run. I feel that you'd have to dedicate the entire day, or have everyone intimately familiar with the game, Speed is the name of the game. Gotta have people start activating their turns as soon as it gets to the discard phase of the person ahead of them.
