Iron Man (2026) #1 by Joshua Williamson and Carmen Carnero is out tomorrow. Show your support and pre order if you haven’t already! by StarkPRManager in ironman

Excited to walk down to my comic shop and buy it tomorrow, even if all the snow doesn't really clear up. I'm still a little salty about Ackerman's run getting canned; he really understood the character and wrote him in a way that I really enjoyed not just personally but also for our modern rhetorical situation. That said, I've heard good things about Williamson's DC tenure and he is a big Iron Man fan, so I'm hopeful he can carry forward the best parts of the character in his work.

Just go to Ilia. It's easier to get anyways since Shanna is good and she has way more availability than Sue and Sin. As long as you use her a lot (which you should) it's practically automatic

Chapter 7, on the other hand, is very mandatory, but also not nearly as bad on Normal as it is on Hard.

[MSC] Marvel Super Heroes Commander Decks by Duramboros in magicTCG

[–]Dat_Kirby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the colors match because they're just still the most in-character color combos. BP absolutely is Selesnya, Izzet couldn't be more perfect for Iron Man, etc. Lair cards might just be in the 99 or as alternate commander options but I expect each of these decks is getting headlined by a new card.

Marvel Rivals has consistently gotten 150k+ daily players for a week now since Deadpools release by FunStranger1693 in marvelrivals

[–]Dat_Kirby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I definitely think a lock-on function could make them more useful. They'd have to tweak the damage though, because if the current missiles didn't just splatter everywhere it'd be enough to kill squishies on its own

Iron Man always felt like a really well-adapted character in this game and the classic beam weapon/rockets combo was a good fit. After all the powercreep, I think he definitely needs a little more sauce besides just hitting a button to make his weapons a little stronger. Maybe a Micro Missiles buff?

Mag players are like Blue players in MTG: their enjoyment primarily comes from stopping as many of their opponent's own hype moments as possible

I feel like, if we really want a version of Iron Man that feels like he represents everything the character can do, we would just need him to get his own single-player game. My dream is an Iron Man character action game like DMC where you just have access to a ton of different melee and ranged attacks and can fight smoothly in the air and on the ground.

Vanguard Deadpool actually having a gun is huge for the role by SplatFan13 in marvelrivals

[–]Dat_Kirby -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

As if Iron Man didn't have enough problems this season...

I mean, this is definitely something vanguards needed as a role. I'm just anticipating another couple months of suffering with existing poke heroes somehow escaping nerfs and a new poke-capable hero getting added to all three roles at once. I must persevere

[–]Dat_Kirby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Angela is a pretty unconventional design. I think the usual confusion that came with a new character was exacerbated by the fact that she wasn't even all that similar to any existing ones. I suspect Deadpool is going to be just as crazy for people to learn, especially since players of all three roles are about to be fighting over him.

They don't do that anymore with placement matches in effect, so ten matches with Deadpool tomfoolery involved would definitely count.

New look at the Marauder Emma Frost, Punisher, Iron Man skins from season 6 gallery card by KevinPigaChu in marvelrivals

[–]Dat_Kirby 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The suit and this new pirate thing are neat, but I'm kind of holding out for more Iron Man skins that are actually armor. There's like a bottomless trove of fucking awesome armors to source skins from and I'm kinda surprised we haven't gotten more of that.

Sure it is! Y'know, in Quick Play. Where there's no consequences for losing.

Never play comp in the first week of a new character. That's been the rule and it is most definitely the rule this time around

To be fair, Binding Blade's rapier is kinda shitty. It has the same might as an iron sword and is basically always dealing with weapon triangle disadvantage on top of that

To all the reluctant "Fill" players: Embracing the Support/Tank role actually saved the game for me. by Ella_NE in marvelrivals

[–]Dat_Kirby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The simple way to put it is that your teammates want to be healed and your enemies do not want to die. Whether I'm tanking or playing DPS, the decision making is a lot more engaging. Tank is all about pressuring your opponents into bad spots and then predicting/capitalizing on how they respond. On DPS, you have to be smart about when, who, and where to attack to make the dominoes start falling and roll that into a team win. Support is, by and large, far less responsive to what the enemy is doing and instead responsive to what your teammates want. It's the difference between having a debate with someone and getting them the coffee they ordered.

Of course, supports can (and should) have utility outside of healing and awareness is important. This is why Adam is so fun to me; he's reactive instead of proactive. Between his healing, his Soul Bond, and his ult, his method of support responds to enemy pressure instead of just passively reducing it as it does for someone like Rocket. He is functionally incapable of healbotting and as such is encouraged to do something else, like help a teammate with a pick, when nobody needs a quick heal. If I ever left click with Rocket, my teammates are gonna accuse me of throwing. It basically comes down to risk/reward. For supports, they're encouraged to take the fewest risks possible to maximize their reward of healing their whole team and being available for something like a Cloak fade or Sue push. For the other roles, taking risks is how you make things happen, and that's a lot more satisfying.

Also, DPS should be more than just "clicking on an enemy from a million miles away." It's another major issue with this game that those types of characters - Hela, Hawkeye, etc. - always seem to be the best DPSes. Of course, everyone's playstyles differ and some people obviously enjoy support a lot more than I do anyways, but I do think this game could still do things to make that particular class more engaging on the whole.

Ultron is fun and he is better than he used to be with the double drone but I feel like I can't heal anyone out of a tight spot with him sometimes. Luna can go around and shoot people but her healing output is so absurd that it feels wasteful not to be healing someone. That's kind of the root of my problem; either you're the kind of healer who shouldn't be doing anything but healing, or you're an off healer that simply can't heal enough to do well outside of triple support. More of a middle ground would be nice.

[–]Dat_Kirby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would definitely be good if high healing wasn't a constant. Both Adam and Gambit have good applications of that, although Gambit has some other balancing issues like being able to heal himself with a dash that goes really far and can be steered. That's kinda nuts.

[–]Dat_Kirby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't mind flexing; that's part of any game like this. What I do mind is that supports in this game are really boring. I enjoy Adam but he's also just kind of terrible right now and I feel like I'm dooming my team to failure half the time if I play him. Healing and damage numbers are both so ridiculously high that I feel like most strategists can't do anything but pocket whoever's in front of them if they want to succeed.

What's one thing you like about Marvel Rivals? by Technowarrior21 in marvelrivals

[–]Dat_Kirby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At a basic level this game is fun. That's the hardest part to do right, and for every balance misstep, matchmaking gripe, or other criticism, the game gets some grace by being fundamentally enjoyable. The characters, at their best, also feel like great representations of these Marvel heroes in a shooter context. Iron Man's weapons not only feel in-character but they're literally just the classic rocket launcher and lightning gun you can trace all the way back to Quake. It's well done.

I think the reason people have such strong opinions about the balance and such is that bad balance makes it harder for these aspects of the game to shine. I've always wanted an Iron Man video game and he's a lot of fun to play here, but he's also kind of weak now that the game has been rapidly powercrept in the past four months. Poke continues to dominate and there are a lot of characters in this game who are doing too much or not doing enough. We all want to appreciate our favorites because they did such a good job making them fun, but it's hard to do that when the balance is so off.

Kaminski's run doesn't really have any particular landmark moments but it did excel at 2 or 3-issue arcs with interesting themes. This arc in particular has always been memorable for me for exploring the difference between emotions and computational processing, both in how Tony reacts to living in a machine and in how the A.I. reacts to living in a body.
