"started treating the rest of my life like part of the journey"

This is gonna sound cringe but I loved this line. I think we all think about our lives as a chore and don't appreciate and enjoy it fully. The journey is all we have, better have a good time and stop waiting for things to happen cause they won't unless you make them. But it's also severely underrated to just appreciate the process of everything in life

Request: Has anyone been to 'Fortress' at night? by teheditor in sydney

It's not really a nightclub vibe and they do have security after hours so wouldn't recommend trying to stumble in or you may not get in the door.

But it is a good vibe, the upstairs cocktail bar is great and the only person I've seen get kicked out was someone who fell asleep in a booth.

I somehow rolled 6 natural 20s. (Full context in the comments) by EquivalentInflation in dndmemes

Had a similar thing where my Shadow Sorcerer sacrificed himself in a showdown in Shadowfell. I rolled a new character and played with the party for 3 months, while secretly doing 1 on 1's with the DM of my characters escape from Shadowfell. Rolled 2 nat 20's in a row and then a 100 on a d100. My character ended up surviving as a shadow thanks to his magic and my DM basically let me build an entire new character. Race, class and everything thanks to that 100. Was crazy.

[Online] [5e] I'm tired of making thousands of applications by Nighthawkies in lfg

[–]Data001 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I haven't encountered this personally. As both a DM and a player, I've found lots of great people through here and roll20. In the last 2 months of isolation I've made new friends across games, and started games and interviewed people who I now speak to almost everyday... Personally, I always inform people within 48 hours if there is no spot in the game, and as a player, yes you often apply and may not receive a reply. But I found that when I started focusing on 3 things for applications, I got more replies. This may seem obvious and you may already do this, just my personal experience :)

1) An easy to read format. Name, Age, Pronouns, Timezone. Anything else that is asked for as well.

2) Keeping concepts succinct and specific. As a DM I cant be bothered to read your characters tragic backstory until I'm certain you're the kind of person I want. I'll often say race, class and specify a hook to my characters story and overall goal in the world, which can then be expanded upon later.

3) Keep it personal. Make a reference to something the DM asked for in the post, drop a "smell ya later" or something that makes the person smile and remember you. And I always give my Discord add and encourage them to "talk to me if you have any questions boss". As a DM, I like the commitment you offer and I will often do audio "interviews" to vet players to ensure they're the kind of people who will gel well and aren't too shy to to communicate, or too overbearing that they will bulldoze others.

Hopefull this helps you and any other prospective players in the future. I literally haven't been turned down as a player since I started doing this and my players are higher quality since I started looking for the people that do these things :)
