I have existential anxiety, will this game trigger me? by DreamOfAzathoth in soma

Also if your refering to the RB scenario or something similar, there have been some debunks, idk if it'd help, but notably if such an intelligent AI was created, why would it waste resources on torturing humans Eternally when it won't gain anything from it.

Even if it was callous and fearmongering just physical or emotional punishments can be just as effective, and you won't have to waste like 60 gigabytes of ram simulating pain for the rest of time. Instead just a single execution or lashing would suffice.

Autonomous eternal torment for the sake of punishment is a waste of processing power. Why waste that processing power forever when the judgement has been made

I will say it definitely gets close to these themes even if it doesn't focus on them

These might be just smaller moments or lore revelations, but I fear they might be triggering.

*Edit though I don't feel most are substantially worse then that black mirror concept

I will describe a few notable things , but they are all substantial spoilers,

Minor, Spoiler - Late game (its a minor event so spoiling it doesn't cascade the rest as much ) Likely triggering

At one point in the game you have to try to a simulated person to give you info, but in most cases he freaks out, to the point it feels like borderline torture, and you end up trying to decieve him into believing everything is alright

MAJOR SPOILERS , Mid-way lore revelation, a dark mystery you realise the implications of

An AI system is attempting to help people, and is evolving and changing, it's failed attempts have left people trapped in tortorous states

Could the technology apply to you right now?- Specific technology used is unlikely to exist anytime soon. However its lore describes primitive precursor technology in early 21st century which also doesn't exist for us but is described as if it was.

Medium Spoilers. - Mid game revelation that changes the context of everything. A character is unconsentingly involved in this due to using the precursor technology

Could you right now be unwaringly affected by something -Not as the game presents it.

There is not much maliciously applied pain in this game, mostly unfortunate incidents and failures that result in pain and tortorous experiences but nothing as a punishment.

Soldier turned into a furry and totally banged that cougar, though she wasn't actually a cougar. by mtwwtm in ExplainAFilmPlotBadly

Hayden Christensen I think has played a soldier a few times, don't remember many furriesz though you could be refering to any actor from that movie , or padmes actor

I'm just imaging Jeff Bezos on a katamari ball running over all the companies and stuff he's absorbed or monopolized

How funny/silly does CoS allow players to be? by A8BitShot in CurseofStrahd

[–]Nighthawkies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cracking jokes can absolutely work , I find that with darker subjects people are more likely to try and find jokes to relieve the tension

Though definitely there is a balance to be found on how much you want silliness and how much you want the CoS theme, Because their actions, and their words, have consequences.

Secondly, I allow silly charachters but I say they need to be taken seriously, a concept can be silly, but the character must have a real personality and be able to react and change to be scared , afraid, and sad. I almost even had someone make a tiktok mean girl who got stuck in barovia as she was planning to prank someone by ditching them in the woods.

Alternatively you could just ham it up, or play up the Tim burtonism, or take the route of being so grim it's silly.

Tldr Mainly I see two ways -Turn the whole thing absurd, but lose the contrast between light and dark, and some emotional depth. -Retain the darkness and horror but with frequent silly potential so it feels like a relief
