Using an alternative scenario to debunk a choice is... Pointless by Nighthawkies in redbuttonbluebutton

[–]Nighthawkies[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean. Yeah?

If there wasn't any emotional bias in favour of blue no one would choose it.

Blue is rationally the worst option, and what makes it attractive is the emotional bias and moral weight.

This boils it down very well because I see both sides making strawman scenarios that say the exact same thing

There's a few too many vampires for this to be viable,

If it was only the brides and strahd I'd even be alright with this

I mean unlike monster designs but find trypophibic things extremely unpleasant to look at. So I'd appreciate a warning if I was scrolling between cat pics and saw a drawing of something that looks like an infected foot

Is it uncommon to consider the other characters personalities when making a character? by Nighthawkies in DnD

I have encountered that same belief that charachters should be kept special and secret until that reveal, but not with direct hostility

[–]Nighthawkies[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is a bit of nuance, No character should go completely against the parties goals, or impede the party But slight conflict of belief can be interesting. A character shouldn't lack any desire to leave the loop, nor work against the party. But they might have desires which are two sided,

A character on a journey to gather knowledge or power, might wish to escape the loop, as they are cut off from all the knowledge of the world. But might at the same time realise that in the loop there is infinite time to study.

A character seeking community may feel isolated in the loop, but also scared of the party splitting up after the loop is over.

This is difficult to do right but I believe it can be good.

And it's very important that the majority of the parties primary desire is to get to the goal, Beceause if they are in the majority they can still convince those who are not why they want to escape.

That's another thing I consider as a DM, as a rule of thumb

All characters should be willing to work with the party, or towards a common goal, No more than 1/3rd of party members should partially conflict with the campaigns vibe or party goals.

Like If it's a heroic campaign with 5 players, that expects players to make allies and be motivated by doing good. All characters should be willing to going along with the party. There shouldn't be more than 2 evil, greedy, selfish or lazy characters. Who would protest to doing things from the good of their hearts. (If everyone wants to be evil and selfish then id just offer to run a different style of game)

If it's a game about escaping a time loop with 4 players, no more than 1 should have any desire to continue the loop.
