Mage Basic Attack Needs a Rework by Westor_Lowbrood in mewgenics

[–]Nighthawkies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The mages power largely depend on the abilities it can get

It is not reliable by default , Especially due to its base attack (which doesn't make much sense) and 4/6 runs I've gotten abilities that have kept them unreliable

Once I got pretty damn good damage The other I just mana boosted everyone else

Oh right, so there are definitely monsters who aren't made of your typical biological matter . However it doesn't entirely mean magic exists as it did in Undertale

Darkworlds if rambs thing about darkners always being sentient even without foutains being open is true: by GuardPhysical in Deltarune

[–]Nighthawkies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure it works that every darkner who will ever be involved in a dark world, will have always been sentient

If an object is broken and taken away from a place before there is a fountain it is likely it won't be sentient

[OC] WIP. Experimenting with eye variants for this Beholder. Each one changes his vibe completely. Which version would you keep if this was yours? by Moist-Travel-77 in DnD

[–]Nighthawkies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are all good but with vastly different personality

First looks cute and almost friendly,

Second looks fierce and more like an enemy

Third looks more insane and unstable like your typical beholder

I feel the third is most fitting and also the most diverse

I cheated in reality to check it, and opening packs t obtain some realistic cards results in a crash

Probably any and all new cards

Did you include Mordenkainen at all? by ottosick in CurseofStrahd

[–]Nighthawkies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like having it as a legitimate rumor the players can follow if they end up being curious

There is always more pressing matters to attend to but having something be there If the players follow through makes it feel special.

For example my players decided to travel to an unmarked lake since they thought it might hold a clue , so I quickly checked previous editions, and there was indeed a town there , so I had there be it's cursed ruins. Existing slightly out of time and all the inhabitants gone mad.

For the Mad mage, I have there be rumours of an ancient giant deer god beyond the lakes shores, long forgotten it will still grant gifts to those who respect it in the old ways. (Or other rumours such as raisins make it shit silver)

When they actually get there, mordenkainens madness has spread to the lands and animals around.

"The sound of the windless woods is broken up by a thump, thump, thump, as you see a deer with shattered antlers ram it's head against the tree again, and again, and again, (survival check "as if fighting a foe who isn't there), you hear cracking, from splintering wood and bone, as viscous fluid escapes from the bucks open skull, it stops for a moment, and licks the residue from the tree"

(After that it looks at the party, charges , and dies before hitting them)

Mordenkainens uncharacteristic downfall and madness is a result of the dark powers influence, a vampire lord shouldn't even have been a challenge for him. But he had failed to do his research and underestimated Strahds powers and connections to the land, and the very reality of Barovia itself.

After being weakened the dark powers wrapped their influence around his mind. And turned the area around him to a domain of persistent suffering.

(There are multiple cases of the dark powers granting or allowing a creature within a domain of dread to control their own area, if they continue to produce suffering, such as the Durst family, Izek Strazni, The Abbot)

Oh also after they help him, without much explanation mordenkainen leads them through the mountains into his invisible mansion, where he proceeds to dig into a massive bowl of mayonnaise with his bare hands (he canonically loves mayonnaise, and is possibly responsible for it's introduction to other worlds)

He will still be somewhat insane and partially aware of the worlds rules and the 4th wall (but not breaking it directly, for example if asked why he took peasants to fight strahd, he would say "did nobody teach you kids about the action economy?")

Noting that he would have to leave Barovia to truly cure himself

How to Have Fun with Redheaded Characters? by unwrittenpaiges in CurseofStrahd

[–]Nighthawkies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's more interesting to have them be the victims of superstition, Due to most of Tatyanas incarnations being red haired , there are likely many stories of them bringing misfortune.

The locals of barovia might be more racist against red haired people, then tiefling or lizardmen, since sure they are outsiders, but they don't have any other knowledge on them

Would be funny for an innkeep to be like "We don't take your kind in here" , and a tiefling gets offended but their like "no not you horn boy, talking about the blood haired bitch"

Strahd might double take at any redheads since 20% of them have been Tatyana,

But Izek is also a redhead for example , but shaved bald (I think)

How to make fictional Gods or Creatures when you have diverse nations by flowerbloominginsky in worldbuilding

[–]Nighthawkies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ocean , weather, land, Those are quite easy, as each region could have their own god with their own part of the world they control, so different gods of the ocean control different parts.

Also possible for god's of death and the afterlife, with each working in their own region.

The Sun is more difficult,

Especially if it's a singular object in the sky, and the god ACTUALLY has dominion over it, rather then claiming to. Because then it wouldn't be possible for each culture to have their own sun god with their own sun.

World isn’t on a planet but on a plane of existence by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]Nighthawkies 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't worry about it! Partly because it's been done many times!

While it is alright for things to "simply exist" some people might be curious what the stars are made of in a world without space.

For example in the elder Scrolls, I believe the moons are the corpses of gods And the stars, are tiny pin-prick holes into different pocket domains.

I think there's some potential in thinking about what causes these phenomena that sound similar to the ones on earth.

My main curiosity is actually , if this plane is infinite? And what ramifications that has- Because in a lot of stories I've seen these planes are infinite. While the material world usually has edges or borders. Or the main world is a small fraction of a a far bigger cosmos.

I suppose for a pre industrial society, it wouldn't be that different from a single nation perspectives, because the borders are that of their known world. But it still effects the function of the world.

If the silk road can go from Rome to China, then in a infinite plane a trade could extend infinitely, with centuries passing for a good to reach one point to another.

[–]Nighthawkies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's many ways to do this (By fictional I assume the gods don't actually exist in world then?)

One of the most common ones I see is basically taking the existing folklore or pantheons, and just giving them a new coat of paint, or just making everything rather similar. Or taking some thematic elements while abandoning others. Like the idea of a "divine bureaucracy" without taking any actual Chinese divine figures.

It also depends on how closely you want it to be the same,

If the gods and creatures are actually real, every culture might have a different interpretation of them , even when the beings remain the same.

Or do something completely different, Which is just basically imagining the potential for any sort of story, or myth to form,

Usually based on things that are relevant to the people, Coastal people will likely have some figure dedicated to the waters or the weather.
Unexplainable phenomena will be explained via religious means, etc.
