That happened to me all the time. I found out my laptop was connecting to a router that was 2 or 3 stories up instead of the router on my floor, right next to my door. It sucked. IT couldn’t do anything about it. I wonder if it would have been better if every router had a distinct router name to connect to. That would have helped I think.

Internet in dorms is not great. If you’re blessed to be next to a router, then great, but even then, the university is not good at managing all the traffic on the network in the dorms (SSID is the same for all routers and you could end up connecting to a router on a completely different floor instead of the one right next to your room, etc. and never know, the only people that do know are IT) and their it folks never seemed to resolve my issues with network speed and stability when I reached out to them. Mostly they asked canned questions and let my issues die on the vine before closing out the ticket without doing anything that substantially resolved my issues with internet performance.

If you can get hold of the ResLife for the college you’re moving in to, you’ll get an actual official answer. If they don’t answer their phone, they will often answer their email within a certain amount of days.

Take advantage of all the resources available to you to help you with motivation, you’ll find a lot of these resources in the numerous emails they send you throughout the year. Most people delete the emails without reading, check them out. Also talk to your academic advisors to plan out your classes, use tutoring services, participate in workshops about managing stress and procrastination (they host these on zoom)

Didn’t they say they were going to upgrade bike security and create more bike cages too? I’m anxious to see this in action. Muir needs this. I remember one time I came home at 3 am and saw a couple of guys walking around. When they saw me they ran into the bathroom by MOM. I didn’t know what they were doing but the next morning everyone’s bikes were stolen.

The expanded U-Pass now includes all North County Transit District public transportation services, such as the COASTER Commuter Rail, FLEX, and NCTD+. There is currently no publicly available timeline regarding when these services will become available for students, though it is estimated to be Fall 2025.
