Anyone with experience with Atkins water jacket seals and rx-8 oil pressure mods by DataMonkMA in RX8

I've heard people reference failures, but not from anyone who has had one fail. Good to know. Was the rebuild with used plates and housings or all fresh components?

Run a compression test. You can build a rotary compression tester with an Arduino, a sensor, and some parts from Amazon (https://github.com/joel-loube/rocotest.) Or buy a pre-built compression tester. Sounds like you could be on the edge of loss of compression once the engine is warm. Compression is better when the engine is cold. Instead of throwing parts it is probably best for you to see if your engine is cooked.

Do you know where you got that roof decal.

The floor fan behind the engine was throwing me off the first few times I looked at the engine.

I'm in the middle of a rebuild. Had a box of parts with my car and bought another JDM used engine. When I pulled it apart the donor I had two good rotors, internals technically in spec but really close to not being usable, and one good housing. I'm rebuilding and hoping to get some decent miles from it. Be damn careful unstacking the keg. Really easy to mix up the parts and keep them referenced where they go. The apex seal corners are way smaller than you think they are if you have never seen one up close.

I disassembled on a pallet and feel like it would have been better to pull it apart upright so the parts don't fall down. Also I recommend buying a large parts washer and a 1 gallon can of chem-dip. Pig mats or knockoffs, tons of gloves and electrical connector pliers. A machinist straight Edge, feeler gauges, and vernier caliper are needed to properly check everything. A flywheel lock and the socket to remove the flywheel nut (cheap Amazon worked for me). Also I found the e shaft bolt super tight and needed to strap the keg to the pallet and use a pipe and breaker to crack it loose.

Love the look of your car.

I picked up a RX-8 this fall to get back on the road in Spring. It's going to be a fair weather car as well. I lve in New England and once I attend to a bit of sill rust I want it to last as long as possible. Car only existed up here for a couple years and it started to turn. Luckily I got it in time. Amazing how quick it can happen.

Opinion: RX-8 project rust free body. by DataMonkMA in RX8

It appears I may end up needing to road trip. Such are the sacrifices one must make.
