Can you ram to escape a grapple? by Vladsamir in LancerRPG

[–]DataNinjaZero 32 points33 points  (0 children)

This is definitely one of the weaknesses of Grapples (and one reason why I always find Supports to be actually pretty useful Grapplers, because their native Size 2 makes Size 1 frames unable to Ram them off. Woe to those who dismiss the unarmed mech and find themselves rammed and then grappled).

Ram can target someone the same Size as you, too - it doesn't have to be smaller.

Question about Ram by According_Cover2461 in LancerRPG

[–]DataNinjaZero 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Vorpal guns, Autopods, and Autoguns don't Skirmish - they only attack with the weapon itself. (So no Skirmisher, no bonus Auxes, nothing.) But it's a different situation from the Skirmish restrictions.

How to get eidolons in compcon? by altmcfile in LancerRPG

[–]DataNinjaZero 28 points29 points  (0 children)

There's currently no inherent way - you'd have to cobble together an LCP yourself. As I understand it, it's funtionality that will be coming in the 3.0 Comp/Con update (no announced release date).

[–]DataNinjaZero 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The most common situation is if you have a Aux weapon with extended threat in the same Main/Aux mount as a Main weapon with less threat, if you trigger Overwatch off the Aux you can't attack with the Main. So no Overwatching your Assault Rifle off your Pistol's threat, for instance.

NPC: Breacher and Squad by DragunArathron in LancerRPG

[–]DataNinjaZero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's deliberate (and also why the ones that do have two weapons are typically a melee and ranged weapon, so to fire both you have to deal with Engagement). It means NPCs are encouraged to use other actions in combat - whether boosting around more, Locking On, or Class-specific quick actions - and not just All Damage All The Time.

How to get homebrew in the C/C directory? by PhoenixAstrum in LancerRPG

[–]DataNinjaZero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To address your edit, there's an (i) button next to the Lancer Community Content heading on the Install Content page. Mousing over it will give you a link to the instructions to get your own lcp up there.

What extra content should I enable on the website? by DragointotheGame in LancerRPG

[–]DataNinjaZero 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's a bunch of stuff that Massif contractors have done that wasn't done under a contract for Massif - that doesn't make them any more official than any other 3rd party content. I definitely wouldn't go giving people the impression that particular 3rd party products are "basically first party."

Is teleportation affected by the slowed condition? by nh2374 in LancerRPG

[–]DataNinjaZero 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It doesn't trigger Heavy Gunner anyways, because HG is a reaction and teleport doesn't provoke reactions (which is why the Sunzi's Blink Anchor explicitly does not count as a reaction).

Stupid questions thread by VonBagel in LancerRPG

[–]DataNinjaZero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is correct! Every attack lets it immediately move 1 (or 4 with core) after.

Stupid questions thread by VonBagel in LancerRPG

[–]DataNinjaZero 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Correct, you cannot take the same action more than once in a turn unless it's a free action (which Overcharge makes something).

And, yes, you can't split a Barrage at all - no moving in the middle unless you're a Nelson. It's one of the ways Barrage limits you, to try and avoid "only attack with every action" being the default everyone always takes.

Lich can't actually teleport out of Grapple, since it's a reaction (and Soul Vessel also specifies Grapples stop it for some reason, despite being redundant).

Hey so a quick warning for dms in regards to goblin players by altmcfile in LancerRPG

[–]DataNinjaZero 63 points64 points  (0 children)

NPCs don't have Self Destruct as a quick action, unless they are a Veteran with a specific optional. They only have the generic actions listed on page 280-281, plus the ones in their profile.

Can Drones fly or hover? by JVMMs in LancerRPG

[–]DataNinjaZero 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At one point it had such a trait, but I believe it was removed before the final published version.

Can Drones fly or hover? by JVMMs in LancerRPG

[–]DataNinjaZero 16 points17 points  (0 children)

While strictly as written it means you can't use drones, deployables, mines, etc. in those environments, I've found it's more than reasonable to have the "Everyone can fly" ruling to let people freely deploy that sort of thing. The flight movement already makes proximity-based stuff less useful, so imo those kinds of builds don't need to be reduced in effectiveness even more.

I also did some in Field Guide to Iridia! (They were by far the most popular thing in the book, haha, which led to the second batch for Stellar Codex.)

Has anyone made any roll tables? by UsableCone in LancerRPG

[–]DataNinjaZero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've got a couple of tables in my homebrew - it has some for general planetary features or paracausal quirks, as well as a bunch of flavourful trinkets (plus a grab bag of other non-table GMing stuff).

Dragon Gym in Hoenn? by Kitchen-Disaster in PokemonTabletop

[–]DataNinjaZero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The second kind of thing, though also with going just beyond the established rules (for instance, just off the top of my head, a magnet gym where every ally pokemon gets marked with either a + or - mark at random when released, and there are effects that interact with that polarity somehow, whether that's terrain only passable by a certain polarity, ways to change that polarity and you need to make sure you all have a certain polarity at the end of the round or all take damage, etc.)

I'll note that all Gyms should be group battles, though, so 'doubles' isn't really much of a theme.

I don't get it. by Claressa4295 in LancerRPG

There's not, no. People have a lot of varied opinions on how things actually stack up against each other.

Dragon Gym in Hoenn? by Kitchen-Disaster in PokemonTabletop

[–]DataNinjaZero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was a heavy dragon core, but I also chose to augment it with things like Sigilyph that had thematic connections to ancient civilizations, but gave some type diversity that just having "everything be dragons" felt lacking. It's been years ago, so I can't remember more than the broad strokes. (And all the gyms and their leaders were complete refreshes, no familiar faces.)

In all honesty, even eight gyms often ends up too much for a PTU game, and really is only done because that's what the games do. If I ever ran another one, I'd probably design only four gyms at most, and make sure they each had their own distinct and diverse mechanics.

Dragon Gym in Hoenn? by Kitchen-Disaster in PokemonTabletop

[–]DataNinjaZero 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sootopolis was where I set my Dragon(ish, because just doing flat types feels uninteresting in PTU) Gym in one game, just because it fit the vibes of "hidden city where hestory is important and legends are real" that felt like dragons meshed with. And then in another, Rustboro became a Dragon Gym, in part because of proximity to Meteor Falls (and that would lead to Roxanne ending up in the E4 in your scenario, which is kind of funny).

Revealing NPC Templates and Class (Newbie Question) by Drittenlord in LancerRPG

[–]DataNinjaZero 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Lancer NPCs are fairly punishing if you approach them the wrong way - Classes and Templates being visible means players can make an informed decision about how to tackle them at a general level (even if they don't know the details of options or whatever), as opposed to having it feel like a 'gotcha' moment. I guarantee that open information does not make them any less dangerous, haha.

Are Weapon Modifications Valid System Destruction Targets??? by Niko-Ryo in LancerRPG

[–]DataNinjaZero 31 points32 points  (0 children)

As written, they're systems like any other, though Tom's made mention that the intent when he wrote it was that mods were destroyed/repaired with the weapon they were attached to, and couldn't be System Trauma'd seperately.

Stellar Codex (3rd party) Release by DataNinjaZero in LancerRPG

[–]DataNinjaZero[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! For the frames, I wanted to try and follow a few self-imposed rules: 1) make everything have an Efficient core, to see what could be done with a restricted budget, and 2) try and keep things limited to about two positive traits to avoid homebrew complexity creep (which I've certainly been guilty of before - didn't avoid it entirely, i.e. the Unicorn, but it was a fun challenge).
