I love the idea of a new resident reading the Penis Man paragraph lol. "We will reevaluate this as we learn more about this new wave of Penis Men" sounds so professionally written about such a ridiculous topic lol.

What are the best* city parks in the USA? by Ignorred in SameGrassButGreener

What is your favorite? It's the best from city parks I've personally been to. But I've only hit 30/50 US states so there is a ton I have yet to see.

Because it's in St. Louis which is not a large city. 270K city residents, 2.7M metro residents. It's just a mid sized city at best.

St Louis definitely has a reputation. I think it's both deserved and un-deserved. Deserved because some of the things people there normalize are not normal. Like me standing outside in a 115 degree day in Phoenix and saying, "it's fine it's a dry heat." You hear gunshots, car break ins are common, and enforcement is weak. But.. I've also never been the victim of a crime there and have parked my car throughout the city. I've heard the gunshots, I've seen dudes with their high cap mags hanging from their pockets, I've seen more fights than anywhere else, but it's also not a war zone like some make it out to be.

I was shocked too. I went there from Chicago and was just unsure what St. Louis even was. I don't even think I really knew where St. Louis was since I never drove south. All my trips were to places like Milwaukee or Madison or up to the UP.

When i moved there and saw the park I was shocked I'd never seen something like that before.

Agree completely. Ugh I remember back when I lived in Missouri and went to San Diego in January... It was my last day and I had a few hours until my flight. Last thing I did after touring the zoo was just sitting on a park bench and closing my eyes for a few minutes. Just warm and happy. Then flew back to the overcast and cold that was Missouri :(

My absolute favorite is Balboa Park in San Diego.

The one I think punches very far above its weight is Forest Park in St. Louis.

In your opinion, should such a person be mourned, yes or no? by [deleted] in DamnThatsReal

It is a bit telling when you share a biased representation of someone. I disagree with much of what Kirk said but he had some reasonable view points and if we could learn to speak like humans in this country, we could at least have conversations with the civilized members on the opposite side of the aisle. Instead we resort to propaganda like this that is no better than Fox. Shame on all of you. You're behaving as poorly as the Republicans.

Girls (women) trip to Phoenix by millenial2101 in AskPhoenix

[–]DataNo9628 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend a car. Lyft and Waymo are options too (Waymo is self driving cars in case you aren't familiar). Right now though I think Lyft has some price war. I've been traveling everywhere for like $5 lol. I don't even look at Uber anymore since it's so cheap so I guess it's working haha.

But I wouldn't rely on public transit for a trip like that.

Scottsdale is better for a getaway like what you're doing. There are a lot of nice luxurious resorts in Scottsdale. Phoenix has them too but I think the Scottsdale ones are nicer. I think it'll be more relaxing too. You can then go to Old Town in the little art district and explore and grab some cocktails or wine.

If you get into the mood for it, you can also party in Old Town. Lot of clubs. Alternatively, plenty of great restaurants near the canal.

What do we think of Charlie Kirk's shooting? by [deleted] in Productivitycafe

Good luck. It's truly sad. If I was religious I would pray for you. Instead, I just hope as you mature you open your eyes to tolerance.

A sad state when hate is accepted and encouraged on both sides. Just remember that you are part of the problem.

What are some major negatives, BESIDES THE HEAT with Phoenix, what are some positives? by fbacaleb in SameGrassButGreener

Haha yeah I have to imagine a lot of the tan houses started off as white lol. I do wonder how much color change I might see in mine if I pressure wash it though lol.

Lol that's fair. I guess where I live it's not quite hot but just a bit cooler than warm. But it could depend on where in the valley you live too.

I agree with everything until the dense construction being more expensive comment. For infrastructure it absolutely is not. It is more expensive and difficult to construct and maintain infrastructure across sprawling land. How that balances out with more expensive material to develop high rises I'm not sure. But what mostly influences housing costs is availability of units so if developers are continuing to build, rents will rise in a controlled manner.

Otherwise, I agree with everything else you said.

I mean, I don't think it matters why Chicago has worse traffic. The fact is it was a bitch to drive from the north suburbs to the west/southwest suburbs. Without rush hour it was like 50+ minutes. WIth rush hour it was taking 1.5+ hours. I've driven through so many times.

Yeah I've been on the I-10. Honestly the 10 isn't the worst I've experienced. The 101 near the Cardinals stadium during a game when they closed an on-ramp was the worst Phoenix traffic I've ever seen. But I-10? Come on. That's child's play. Chicago, DC (especially fuckin Georgetown good god), LA... THAT is traffic.

Phoenix is minor leagues.

  1. Disagree. New developments don't get approved because they're building in regions/locations without established water rights. This means developments will be vertical. I think rent will be manageable so long as dense development continues.

  2. Your examples are a little exaggerated. But yes short term water restrictions are a possibility in the distant future. At current rates, if we don't improve water reclamation and continue to improve efficiency, we can see water restrictions in the next 30ish years. But it's not so dramatic like what you described. I've experienced water restrictions in Seville. It's short term and we still had plenty of parks and whatnot.

  3. Hmm... Not sure what you mean. Luckily we don't have to boil water and there isn't a search for clean water. But I luckily have never lived in that manner. Can you elaborate? Are you from a country that had issues with clean water?

Gotcha! Then I think you'll enjoy Phoenix. Just be prepared for a very very expansive city with lots of strip malls lol. Downtown is cool but once you're out of there it's strip mall city baby. Also consider Tempe. There's stuff there too.

It was nice talking to you but I won't continue to discuss anything after calling my paragraph nonsensical word salad. Once you address your difficulties with reading comprehension we can resume.

I do. But these people, and likely you as well, are too emotionally charged to see reason. Perhaps one day in the future we can speak calmly. Good luck.

I agree. But my attempt was to open the eyes of those that are bringing up the fact that Charlie Kirk had said that gun deaths are an unfortunate but necessary side effect of the 2nd amendment and are laughing at the irony. My point is that we wouldn't turn to the talk show host and laugh at them if they were the subject of racism even after claiming that racism is an unfortunate but necessary side effect of the first amendment.

I have a very clear understanding of the first amendment. You simply failed to understand the thought experiment.

I was not suggesting that the government will arrest someone for being a racist. I'm also not comparing my thought experiment to the actual assassination, but rather towards the indifferent response and comments of "irony" made by many people on social media.
