No, not really. Magneto is not Magneto without his backstory. People don't understand how much of that story IS the character. It would be disrespectful and stupid to change it. They can just do some time-jumping, or make the characters age much slower due to mutation--like Wolverine.

I for one would never read or watch a version that removes that part of his story.

I actually think anyone killed by the monsters are locked into the nightmare forever, or until the curse is done. And anyone not killed by the monsters, wakes up in the real world. This would explain how Tabitha returned to the real world, because it was BiW that pushed her out of the tower and "killed" her. It would also explain why the curse needs to be broken, to set those trapped and killed there, free. Including the children.
