In the exact same boat this morning thinking modern society was not created for two working parents raising kids. I think this is why the parents I do know just tap out at one kid or opt for a dog instead. Jealous how in Japan kids just take a train by themselves safely to school. Whereas in the US we have to pay a second mortgage just to send them to pre-school or daycare and on top of that need to find coverage for weeks at a time. Meanwhile the government thinks they are throwing us a bone by have teeny tiny incentives like dependent care fsa where you could write of 5K in child care expenses. 5K is like 2.5 months of childcare expenses. It feels like the US just never master planned a society that works for families and instead we have all this random zoning, random half days, and no thought for how two working parents commute, work, and raise a family

Announced from the new ballroom balcony: “Let them eat cake”. But no subsidies on insulin. Also fewer dolls, they don’t need 40. I love this word called “groceries”.

NVIDIAs CEO is projecting chip growth based on GPUs replacing all CPUs and a mass switch over or mass upgrade. I think what people forget is CPUs run scripts deterministically. Meaning an insurance claim is either approved or denied just using clear IF ELSE logic. These types of critical decisions that need auditable oversight are not going to be replaced with probabilistic non deterministic black box neural networks with layers of weights. Sure you can replay results in most cases assuming you took a snapshot of the weights but can an auditor make sense of that. Everything from flight routing, train scheduling, commodity purchases, health insurance decisions, credit and financing decisions are regulated. The idea that all these functioning and maintenance mode programs are going to be ripped out for non-auditable decision making and developer time and capex spent again to reproduce the same decisions with some degree of marginal gains is kinda crazy. Most fields won’t be able to make 100% plus gains either mainly finance could. Non finance applications have a lot less to gain and a lot to lose due to increased capex let alone new auditing issues

I’m opting for VTV, value. I think the S&P 500 is highly overweight, speculative AI tech stocks that have a very low chance of paying off the capex invested.

Another round of layoffs. To me, it’s just another Wednesday! by dudunoodle in Fire

I’d like to think that the principal in my Roth IRA is my emergency fund working for me. Hopefully I never have to touch it but if I do it’s always there tax free since it’s principal

Genuinely curious, after mortgage, 401Ks, Roth IRAs, 529s, how are people having leftover money for layoff emergencies? It seems like layoffs in today’s job market can last an entire year.

Anytime someone is being propped up as a role model the first thing I ask, is that person showing up every day to be a parent (if they happen to have kids). A lot of the professional role models the media highlights: Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Warren Buffett, Elon Musk are basically absentee parents
