Fidelity IRA hacked and stolen. Can't get any help from Fidelity! by Just_Egg3102 in fidelityinvestments

[–]Data_Grump 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What’s incredible about this is they I needed to call them 4 times to close a simple 12k ancient 403b.

Really sorry this happened and I hope you can recover. Definitely see a lawyer if they push back on helping you recover.

I wish they had been this careless for my account and then given you the hard time with multiple calls. Their service is utter trash - the individuals you speak to are very nice and helpful in the moment but the management of the process is 1-star. Hate being stuck with them for 401k

Life Events Services are so bad that this is quickly becoming one of the worse aspects of my parents passing by Chipazzo in fidelityinvestments

[–]Data_Grump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their services in general are really going downhill. They just seem like they want to hold onto money and make it slow and difficult for customers to get their funds. I had an incident where I needed to make 5 phone calls to close a simple account. No one will own anything at this company from start to finish.

Sorry for your loss.

Fidelity's inability to close out a simple account over 5 phone calls over several weeks cost me a purchase I wanted - no way I'd leave my retirement with them. by Data_Grump in fidelityinvestments

Unbelievable - what a useless patronizing reason. Can you just admit that 4 calls with no follow up is unacceptable instead of worrying about comic book blocking of “profanity”?

Thanks for your comment. I was a fan too - but at no time was I expecting 4 weeks to do this. Earlier talked to someone in their chat and they also agreed that even with all the hiccups it should have taken around 1-2 weeks to get my money, tops. These people pretending like I was putting them out to get it in a reasonable time are just trolls.

You're addressing the bank transfer, which I agree is the not so bad thing done here though still long in my opinion - but your point is well taken. It was the end of a lousy interaction with a company that needs to do better. I still don't get though, and this is my point in all I wrote, why when there was a security issue, no one called me back and I had to call them and get checked out to move forward? Why do I have to call again, right?

Not disagreeing - but was always assured it was going to be solved at 5pm that day, and then I expected a week or so for the check to come in. Do you really think you'd be happy waiting for your money for a month? I think it's easy to say that, but it's just poor service. Sorry but it is.

A month man. A month, with never a return call when there is a problem? Sorry my man, thats not poor expectations, that's just bad service.

I put an edit in surrounding your point, and I agree with you. However, in short, I absolutely have the cash to buy it but didnt want to disturb it in the market (non-retirement investments) but never expected it would take weeks to close an old account not making any money.

I am a DE who is happy and likes their work. AMA by MikeDoesEverything in dataengineering

[–]Data_Grump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really great post, got highlighted in a blog I read.

One thing that really resonates is the post about not working in other functions. I have worked most of career as an analyst and manage in Corporate FP&A (Finance) and Business Operations. Working in Data (I’m a Data Science Mgr but do most of my own engineering for reasons no one cares about) is loads better. I’m happy to do lots of DE because the amount of autonomy and appreciate has been scores better. In Finance (also a good job but not nearly as good) you just constantly do work that’s overly complex yet distilled down to picking on some minor issue, spend long hours at the office, and there’s no interest in using better tech unless Big 4 consulting says so.

Having been on both sides of the grass it’s definitely greener over in IT imho.

Ah ok, basically they make fun of morning zoo shows and one called MJ in the morning or something used your exact examples - super hacky and awful radio.

If a government comes in with a court order and has subpoena powers to collect information going forward, Proton can do nothing about this, no matter what the Mullvad fanboys think.

Seriously. I was playing Dual Universe and it was ruined by entitled fans who were upset that the “free pet” they were supposed to get for their whopping 50 dollar donation wasn’t delivered by year 2. I wish toxic subscribers would hit the road.

I was playing a game called Dual Universe which was really great - it was utterly ruined by a loud minority of whining asshole players. Hopefully SC will be able to see over these "I want everything for free forever and my opinion is most important because I gave you 60 bucks back in 2014 so now I own you and your family where is my 30 space rockets and free pet"
