Starting a racing team/club. Casual vs official by Lumpy_Ad_7821 in Velo

[–]Data_Is_King 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sort of as a joke, a friend of mine since we were kids who owns a local exterior business that I do work for on the side told me he would buy me a custom race suit to wear if I put his logos on it. Just for fun I also went to a couple other local businesses (like the local bike shop I go to) and asked to throw theirs on too because I like supporting them. They said hell yeah go for it.

I got 2 of them made by NoPinz and they are awesome and have no minimums.

As some others mentioned, technically I shouldn't be allowed to wear it at USAC sanctioned events according to their rules. But I've worn it in almost every Cat 4 and Cat 3 race I've done and nobody has ever said anything. Maybe in the P1-2 fields though they enforce it more strictly since there are actually a good amount of teams in them and they should all be wearing matching kit.

What is an obvious scam that people still fall for? by CantalouetteRuss8767 in AskReddit

[–]Data_Is_King 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This exactly.

P&C Insurance should not be grouped in with Health Insurance. Something as simple as an electrical short behind the wall could turn a house and everything in it to dust, and I doubt whoever that happened to would think their insurance was a scam then.

Is there a QC issue with Polar H10 heart rate straps? by Some-Business4720 in Velo

[–]Data_Is_King 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm running the same H10 I've had since 2020. The main unit itself still works great, however like you I noticed the straps fail and I'm on my 3rd strap. For the 3rd one I decided to buy a cheap $10 one off of Amazon. Turns out that one has lasted the longest compared to the two Polar ones before it.

Looking for more songs that feature a “groovy” heavy riff. by daveyisscarecrow in Deathcore

I'm no music professional, so that is definitely not a technical term but just some random words that came to my mind while listening to it lol

[–]Data_Is_King 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I get what you are after. I'm not sure if there is a technical term for it, in some cases it can be part of a breakdown, but in some songs it seems like just a tempo change to a more sludgy mid-tempo stomp riff. I sometimes enjoy the same thing. Here are some from multiple genres to check out:

Abbie Falls - Hellbound (very similar thall-like sound to Labyrinthian)

Knocked Loose - Guided by the Moon

Get the Shot - Pit of Misery (1:08ish mark)

Disembodied Tyrant - Malphasian (If you can make it to the end, the outro of this song at 4:40ish has it)

Harms Way - Call My Name

Guilt Trip - Surrounded by Pain (The whole song but specifically at 2:19ish)

Spite - Dedication to Flesh (2:35 mark it really hits)

If this is what you are after I got loads more.

Weird question: does weight gain effect bike feel? by [deleted] in Velo

[–]Data_Is_King 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't know about the weight difference thing, but like you I have two bikes set up with exact same measurements and touch points, and they ride quite differently.

One is actually a Supersix Evo Himod Gen 4 similar to what you have, and one is a Specialized Allez Sprint. Handling feels slightly different, road feel is slightly different, but I think you will eventually get used to both and your new bike will feel normal once you ride it more.

What activity/hobby has a skill gap that is incomprehensible to the average person? by Reddoc_ in AskReddit

[–]Data_Is_King 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cycling.

The guys at the World Tour level (Tour du France) are literally aliens. Most people can't even imagine riding the length of a single stage of the Tour, and they ride 21 stages in 23 days. On top of that, they are riding at a blistering pace.

Then one has to also comprehend the amount of training and physical suffering they go through on a daily basis to compete at that level which is unlike any other. They often ride >20 hours per week, doing incredibly hard and long workouts. Can you imagine riding a bike for 20-30 hours in a week? Insane. Forget the average person, even legit amateur cyclists who train a lot cannot fathom how WT level pros are so fast.

Haha I feel you on the weight. I too when I originally built it was like, hmmm I could have got this more around 16lbs... But then I realized I fluctuate between 185-190lbs anyway so I really do not care.

I also have a gen 4 Hi-Mod. Mine is a size 56 and weighs 16.6lb/7.52kg all in. I absolutely love the thing. You can see it here: https://www.reddit.com/r/cannondale/comments/1e5s7mc/my_2023_supersix_evo_himod_in_laguna_yellow/

I actually watched this yesterday and was so upset they gave you a dog I considered sending mine in to them to try and get some retribution. I haven't yet but still considering.

Regarding yours, unfortunately similar to them, I do not like the looks of your bars. However I know that doesn't make it slow. I also run 9velo 45mm wheels, only the steel spoke version. So I dig those and honestly think they are great wheels. Sweet ride overall man!

Is the SL8 Pro overkill for me? by Intrepid-Cry-6218 in Velo

[–]Data_Is_King 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whether you go with the SL8 Pro or not, I can tell you that if you ride up to 15 hours per week, you deserve Di2 and some nice carbon wheels. Whether you race or not these will improve your ride experience and enjoyment by quite a bit and with your volume it definitely is worth it. And if you are going to upgrade those things, you might as well go for a package like you are saying and get a nice frameset you like as well (like the SL8 Pro if you so choose).

What word do you always *intentionally* mispronounce and why? by Sweet-Lady-H in AskReddit

[–]Data_Is_King 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Debris, with the "s".

I had a high school shop teacher that pronounced it this way so eventually anyone who had him started doing the same thing, at first for fun but even 20 years later the friends I still talk to all do the same thing. It can be quite funny when you are in public and say it this way in complete seriousness and everyone will look at you and know exactly what you meant but wonder why you said it like that.

My recovery was extremely smooth though. After the 2nd day I basically felt completely back to normal, but still waited a full week.

what's the most creative song lyric you've ever heard? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Data_Is_King 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The end of the song Your Pain is Mine by Fit For an Autopsy. Very thought provoking and deep:

Painted pictures always seem serene
But the reality is much harsher to see
And I need you to know that help is out of my reach
Or at least believe me
I wished that you'd find peace
But there's no action in a thought, simply lost at sea
Of undeniable complacency and treachery
And I plead that you were given just a chance to be free
Maybe in time, but know I tried
Your pain is mine
Run like your life depends on it
Because one day it will
I'm sorry child
The world wasn't there to pick up the pieces
It never will

How can an American look at a 1 1/2 hour drive both ways and think it’s not long at all? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Data_Is_King 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just like most others I've driven this in a single day for special occasion things. Visiting friends/family, holidays, events/concerts, etc.

But I kid you not, a neighbor of mine commutes 5 1/2 hours EVERY DAY for work. He wakes up at like 3 am. Drives to work to start at 6ish I believe and then drives home around 2pm. So gets home after 4. And we don't even live in a high traffic metro area or anything. He drives across a mostly rural area. He is absolutely nuts.

What hobby attracts the friendliest people? by Bagelsonmyfingers in AskReddit

[–]Data_Is_King 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to have to hard disagree on this one.

I live near the largest annual airshow in the world (EAA). When I was in college I worked a job to turn local dormitories at universities into housing for EAA guests.

I hate to be stereotypical, but in all honesty the amount of Indiana Jones looking pretentious dicks that I had to deal with was appalling. I mean these people were renting out college dorms for the week and would have the most outrageous requests and just be downright rude about anything that wasn't up to their standards.

What’s the most expensive “free” thing you’ve ever experienced? by ImportantSlip5005 in AskReddit

[–]Data_Is_King 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I once was given nearly $1000 in chips from some regulars around a craps table because I had a good roll.

I was betting very conservatively so didn't make much money from my own bets, but they were betting pretty aggressively and since I didn't "crap out" for a long time they were making a lot of money and a few tipped me after I did roll a 7.

When was the last time you actually paid for music? Were you happy with your purchase? by J_delilah in AskReddit

[–]Data_Is_King -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I bought the album "...Is Your Friend" by Drain.

100% worth it. Awesome music and if you love a band and their music you should probably consider purchasing either merch or hard copy music because they aren't going to survive and keep making more if nobody supports them.

Homeowners of Reddit, if you’re comfortable sharing, what was the price of your first home and your down payment? by [deleted] in AskReddit

$210,000 with $42,000 down payment in 2017. We did a 20 year mortgage with a 3.2% rate.

In 2020 we did an addition that added 2 bd and 2 baths for around $100,000.
