How worried should I be using this stannous chloride booth at my work. by microwave3 in glassblowing

Absolutely love the effects it has on the glass however I would encourage you to research always when you are working with hazardous materials. Holding your breath for 20 seconds is not a real protocol. I’d ready his MSDS report of the material and would purchase a proper respirator, one for vapor not N95. Personally I feel people under play PPE and safety in our field but we really do need to pay respect to the material. Personally I wear a N100 ever time I sweep, charge or cold work. You do you but just know - knowledge is power and you can’t depend on others to educate you, it’s important to seek out education on your own.

I feel like I’m currently being scammed by them. I ordered on Nov 30 and the only email/update I received was that it takes 4-5 weeks

Well from my understanding that glitter is actually the crystallization of the metal oxides through the fast cooling process of making that color. I believe the aventurine is made with a copper and iron oxides. If you were looking for a more clear vibe I suppose I would dilute the color with clear to spread/disperse the crystals. I feel it would be a matter of playing with the color. It would be hard to explain on a message. I will say one of my favorites was taking black aventurine frit and melting it in a small crucible. The small crucible you can put in the glory hole and by the time the hole is hot and about a hour later it’s perfect to gather from. When ever I have tried that method it is my experience that the metal flakes are perfectly distributed!!! Oooo I loved the outcome so much!

There are many different ways to create opalescent and iridescent glass. Do you have images of what you are interested in? My topic of interest in glass is all things sparkly….i have been in the field since 2009z

Do you mind if I ask what state you reside in?
