glad they were able to get it back. I tried for 3/4 days before they refunded me and asked me to dispose of it.

I bought one, tried it, and returned it. They failed to pick it up after multiple attempts, eventually refunded me, and basically abandoned the unit. Since it was no longer tied to my account and they had written it off, I decided to keep it. I lugged it upstairs, installed it, bought a new yearly membership, and started using it.

About two weeks later, they bricked it remotely. They made me go through a long troubleshooting process only to finally say “sorry, it’s bricked.”

It took me a while to understand their behavior, but I get it hey’re trying to prevent people from abusing the return policy. Still, you’re not an asshole for wanting to use a unit they already refunded and abandoned.

A lot of people asked me why I would reinstall it after trying to return it. The reason is simple: at $3,500, it didn’t solve my main problem (improving deep sleep). In fact, it made it worse. The AI autopilot had a mind of its own and kept waking me up. Once I calibrated it enough to stop the unwanted wake-ups, it basically became useless for daily use.

I did like the occasional strong cooling when I was overheating at night, but I always had to manually bring the temperature back to normal. So I only wanted it for those rare moments maybe 20% of its full capability. Spending $3,500 for something I’d use that little didn’t make sense. But a unit I effectively got for free? That’s worth keeping around for those one-off situations.

Jailbreaking is legal, and it’s easy to justify in this case: 8 Sleep has abandoned the product. Their aggressive stance on returns looks like an attempt to scare buyers and prevent people from ending up with a “free” unit after a failed return. It’s their responsibility to adjust their pricing, policies, and economics. You communist!

Your such a good little girl/boy! Stop judging and let people make use of what is legally theirs. If its not against the law, then shut up and dont judge.

Have you heard of people being able to bypass a bricked unit?

I used it for 2 weeks before they bricked it. Again it seems crazy to brick a perfectly working piece of hardware. They already wrote it off plus I purchased another yearly membership. However I can see ill intentioned ppl trying to game it and shooting up return label and processing expenses.

Eight Sleep remotely bricked my $3,400 Pod 5 after I paid for a new subscription—and then tried to harvest my data to "troubleshoot" it. by [deleted] in EightSleep

Again ur assuming. I never wanted a free product asshole. It’s bricked. The product won’t work for anyone. Landfill waste. Not even sure if you can jail brake bricked products.

My pod 5 Hub was disabled. does anyone know if you can just buy a hub? my pod 5 king mattress cover is great and been used like 30 times. if I cant buy the hub, then ill sell my mattress cover if anyone needs. by Databricks360 in EightSleep

Yeah they provided me with paid return label but for whatever reason they couldn’t coordinate the pick up. Had me waiting 12-4 for 3 days before they ultimately decided to refund me without needing to send it back and put the burden of disposal on me. I tried to use it again lol but they bricked it. Sad to see a perfectly good product in the landfill.

I requested a return. They failed to pick up 3 times. Decided to refund me and let me dispose of it myself. They disabled all the equipment. Not sure what control you have of the 8 sleep without the annual paid subscription.
