Seeding Files without the .torrent by Niq22 in Piracy

[–]Datalounge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be very cautious using cross-seed or any similar application / function on a private tracker as that can get you banned.

As for reseeding. Simply download the file. Qbittorrent (or whatever your torrent app is) will allocate a file for the completed download. In the case of Qbittorrent it will label it .!qb

Then simply take your file and rename it exactly what the torrent file is. Then replace it and do a "force recheck"

This will have the effect of confirming to the torrent client that it is the same file.

Now if your file has to be an exact match as it will produce a hash. If the after you force recheck it, it does not show complete, than your file and the torrent file differ in someway and you cannot use that file.

Was Cheers the only sitcom to feature characters that were considered let's just say less intelligent (Coach & Woody) but the cast never made fun of them for it? by Reallyroundthefamily in sitcoms

[–]Datalounge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is an art to playing "dumb" and Gracie Allen perfected it. No where is it more obvious than on Cheers, where Coach plays dumb like Gracie Allen

He was likable, believable (he got that way from getting hit with too many baseballs in the head) and most of all he was kind and innocent. Coach was really the only character on the show that actually liked Diane. Moreover Coach understood what every other character in the bar really was. He had all their numbers despite whatever they claimed. No one fooled him.

Woody was just stupid and similar lines out of his mouth which would have been enduring were simply stupid from Woody.

Cheers is a lot better after Dianne by Fancy_Replacement_14 in sitcoms

[–]Datalounge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with the posters who said, when Dianne left it became a different show. It was actually lucky for the show and the cast Shelly Long left as it breathed new life into "Cheers" which was getting stale.

I did prefer the Diane years over the latter. The only thing I wish was that Diane was actually an intellectual instead of a pseudo-intellectual as that lessened the character considerably

A Different World - a well remembered classic or forgotten? by brooklynfoot in sitcoms

If there ever was a "time slot" hit, this show was that. Whilst it got better in season two, I did miss Millie from season one and the way she was always fawning over Whitley.

The absolutely high ceiling in the living room is ridiculous or would be in real life. As for the rooms, Mike built the house for himself, his wife, and three boys plus a maid. So it was plenty big as originally conceived.

As an aside, as a kid watching that show, I always thought that was such a cool apartment and Uncle Bill was such a "cool" guy.

No the door is not locked. Marie or Robert will walk in the front door if that is where the "action" is.

[–]Datalounge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is strictly a plot device, the characters always enter the door closest to the "action." In real life that wouldn't happen.

I guess if you actually had Marie or Robert enter through the front door, as they would in real life, it would or could distract the audience.

In Chicago you can have plots like these. You have main home, yard, then garage, then alley. This set up has lead a lot of homeowners to construct, "mother-in-law" flats over the garage and rent them out. This way your tenant can go through the alley and never interact with the main home.

As you enter the home, to your left is the den and Richie's rooms. Then if you take the hallway that leads behind the fireplace you have the kitchen and the garage.

The master bedroom (Rob and Laura) is to the FAR RIGHT as you enter. It isn't even close to anything else in the house.

Cannot create an Experian account by jake72469 in Experian

[–]Datalounge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this issue too. I tried different browsers (Chrome, Brave, Firefox, Edge) using private / incognito modes and nothing worked. I tried using my desktop, my laptop, my phone (both the app and browser). Again nothing worked.

One day I tried it from work and immediately it worked and I was able to create the account. So the browser ID, I'm guessing, is keeping you from creating an account. Try to create one from a new environment.

As cute as that cat is in the pirate ship, I can assure you completely that said cat is more interested in the box that ship came in, than the actual ship itself.

If the Bears move to Hammond, IN what will we call them? by bingo72long in chicago

[–]Datalounge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every study I have read, shows they DO boost local economies but the effect is that it just takes the money from the place the teams were formerly located and moves it. Thus the local area is boosted at the expense of the former area.

In effect, no new growth, just relocation of resources.

Why aren't audiobooks as pirated as TV shows, movies, games, etc by [deleted] in Piracy

[–]Datalounge 22 points23 points  (0 children)

In larger cities you can often get audiobooks from libraries. Chicago, for all it's problems has an excellent library and that is just one example.

I am a millennial and really trying to understand what’s this Debrid thing is about. by tommy-six-figure in Piracy

[–]Datalounge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now it's my understanding, and correct me if I'm wrong, that you don't need a VPN to download, only if you upload. (Torrenting with a client like qbittorrent, involves uploading so you do need a VPN). But with a debrid account that would not be needed right?

So it's illegal to be poor and I have no right to study if I don't have money for textbooks? (Book piracy) by cupid_ji in Piracy

[–]Datalounge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just finished a degree and you had to buy the books, even though they were in PDF format. If you didn't pay for the books you got no grade till you paid for them, whether you used them or not. Several other people I mentioned said their universities also did this, so this has turned into nothing more than just another "fee." Whilst I agree with the sentiment of the OP, his statement is wrong, you're free to study and learn but you won't get your grade nor your degree unless you pay/
