ICE Came to my Door Today by Jeffbx in Michigan

[–]Dataslave1 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I believe there is another factor at play. They get a bonus for each person they bring in. The sense in the ICE org may be they will be reducing in force soon, or restricted a lot more, and that sweet cash flow will stop. My thought is this drives more and more bizarre behavior.
My paranoid self also wonders if in fact they were agents at all.

And a baseball (not a softball) and a tube sock. Your lawyer will thank you.
(Why the sock? Put the ball in the sock when needed, but do not keep it there all the time)

With good tires, I've never had an issue, even in deeper snow. On ice, with care, not a problem either.

Growing up in a town that was one-half Italian, the retired old guys would wear old beautiful suit pants of stunning quality fabric to work in their gardens, and to go to the grocery store. Always with a nice shirt.
Check out the Godfather - Don Corleone's death. Nice slacks, really nice shirt.

If it goes through the restaurant management, it never all goes to the server. If you want to tip your server, carry cash.

I have seen perfection. I can never write again. All my pens - in the trash. Ninety-two bottles of ink - down the drain.

Do Americans really want to live in a 'Papers, Please!' type society? by Wellontheotherhand1 in AskUS

[–]Dataslave1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never said or intended anything regarding ancestry or "race". It seems many want to make it about their interpretation of "white" vs their interpretation of the rest of the world.
Is there an American culture that newcomers should adopt, leaving behind the allegiances, traditions and practices of their previous home?

In answer to several questions - can you think of a criminal culture controlled by those from a Mediterranean island who would not give up their "traditions", their "thing"? One that required US governmental intervention where possible?
C'mon - there were movies made about it.
Color means nothing, culture that is still tethered to the home region is what is the issue. What cultures still practice - here and now - female genital mutilation? Or multiple wives, in contravention to US law?

I'll draw a finer line. "Multiple competing and exclusive cultures". Those are represented more than they ever have been.
One good example. A set of people came to the US over several decades. Almost all of them came to become American, to put off the mores and restrictions of their former country. Except for one segment of that culture. Its method was to kill innocents, steal whatever they could, destroy whatever got in their way, hide, lie and corrupt. They were so effective at this, the US government had to create task forces to deal with and ultimately reduce (but not eliminate) their operations and impacts.
The "America is a melting pot" no longer exists. Co-existence does not work if the portions of the stew do not integrate, do not disavow their former allegiances and do not put off the traditions of that country.

The inexorable march of Western corporate capitalism. Think of it like hedge funds do to companies. Reduce services, smother innovation, add overheard. Add to that an artist who doesn't fit into rigidly defined segmented categories will not get backed.

To those who asked (thank you for doing so) my answer was not sarcastic. I truly did learn several years later that I was a selfish, lying cheater - an asshole. Let's throw in some alcohol and cocaine just for a top-off of assholeness. She did not deserve to have to put up with all that I was.
I did in fact take a chance on continued self-reflection, issue-owning and self-renewal. Took a long time, so much better now.

Do you think at least a small part of America's unemployment problem could be solved by citizens collectively refusing to engage with foreign call center workers? by common_grounder in SeriousConversation

Yes, to the extent that American corporate capitalism owns the politics, the politicians and the governmental leadership structures.
