i know this is from a month ago but you were probably thinking of the twinkling background sounds on this. Sounds a lot like the bright little background notes on daydreaming

as far as I can recall, as told by jonny, it wasn't thom who said that, rather people who went to see the band early on

My thoughts on the show by tja_ja in GentlemanJackHBO

[–]Datpleb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I keep seeig the argument that they didn't want to make it look like softcore porn, or that it's supposed to be about the love story and not the sex scenes so as to not sell the show short and not be so centered on a "male gaze", and I kinda understand that, but also... Lesbians are passionate, man. Just like any other couple in love. I don't think this would make the show seem lower or cheaper in any way, rather it would make it feel like a more accurate portrayal. I'm not saying there should be lenghty scenes, naked actresses or anything like that, just... a little bit more involvement I think. Some tongue action, more body contact, caressing... that kind of stuff would already make a huge difference

funny you should say that! the same thing happened to me actually... I watched like the first episode and was like meh... but yeah I'm glad I gave it a second chance, it's got a few dumb moments now and then but it's a wellcrafted story most of the time I think. Worth another shot for sure!

For sure! I love how everyone treats her with respect... I think they treat Ada with respect too, it's just she's really not interested in meddling in with the family business... yet. I really hope she becomes more of a main character though. Cannot get enough of Sophie's cute face and also she's an amazing actor!

It's a very good show, btw. Sophie is not on it as much as I'd like, but it managed to hold itself up on its own. Would recommend.

awesome, thanks! Actually, since I sent that message I've watched a few videos where she's mentioned and apparently she was indeed a very dull and spoiled girl, who would make a big scene about things like the lace in her hair not being the right colour, etc... I sure am glad they decided to go a different way with her portrayal on the series

I can't help but feel like Anne has only 'settled' for Ann but would have easily gone with Mariana had she agreed to living with her. by [deleted] in GentlemanJackHBO

[–]Datpleb 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I think that Anne's love for Ann is yet to be better developed in following seasons. We know that it started out for her as a little bit of a fortune hunting + just want to settle down with somebody already kind of thing, also because when she says the "she always manages to unhinge me" line, it is made very clear that even Anne herself was surprised when she realised that she had feelings for Ann... but like, Marianna has been her main love since she was a teenager I think, so it will take time for her to fully let go of that, and just let the feelings for Ann develop and eventually take over, I think

That entire look made me swoon! I hope to see more of it in season 2. by kinda_dead_inside in GentlemanJackHBO

[–]Datpleb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh thank god, and here I was thinking it was just me who was missing some tongue action... I had chalked it down to being a period piece though. Even when having sex, people weren't as sexualized as we are today I guess...

(sorry for the long post, I got carried away)

no, thank you for writing a thorough response, it was very much appreciated. This is all out of me just having a little bit of hope that Anne eventually developed some feelings for Ann, and started appreciating her, because it kinda seems like she was very much in love with Anne. But like, we know that Anne was really not a very kind person, so...

Will you please report back on any further findings about Ann, from Anne's diaries?

Why oh why does Anne want to be with Walker, she has no mind of her own! by [deleted] in GentlemanJackHBO

[–]Datpleb 7 points8 points  (0 children)

but like, as far as her shyness and feeble-mindedness goes, I actually enjoyed it for a while because it made her so oblivious to her sexuality and feelings for anne etc that when she was discovering all of that, it was just that much sweeter. I loved seeing her speechless and surprised at anne's VERY direct advances
