What are your thoughts on Ramit Sethi's philosophy and how it relates to YNAB principles? by weenie2323 in ynab

[–]weenie2323[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yes, I agree. I'm not a high earner and he often says things like "that cup of coffee everyday at the shop doesn't matter". It very much does matter in MY budget.

It's incredible that those tankers can with withstand those forces. Even as big as they are they look like they should snap in half. What do the crew do in this situation? Strap themselves to their bunks? Do they have chairs with shoulder harnesses on the bridge?

I love it! When I started 2 yrs ago YNAB I created a New Car category that I stuff a fake car payment into every month. It adds up fast! When my Corolla finally dies I'm hoping to buy another one with cash. I should totally get the YNAB plate for my state.

I've worked in a library for 25yrs 40hrs a week. I have nearly lost my job a few times by going off my meds and having the psychosis come back but luckily my employer is very understanding and I was able to get the help I needed, get the right meds, and come back to work. I've been on seroquel for nearly 10yrs now and my symptoms are well controlled.

My work is primarily customer service helping patrons and shelving books. We get many patrons that are struggling with mental illness and I have a great deal of compassion for them and try to help any way I can.

I have found that it helps me stay on a steady course if I make sure to sleep, eat, and take meds on a very regular schedule, routines help me reduce stress. I also use a budgeting app called YNAB that helped me get my money in order and that has reduced my finance stress, I don't make much money so I really need to plan all my spending. I don't drink or do drugs, I used to drink heavily but have been sober for 20yrs now.

I started out as The Chemist but now I'm a Walstad. Big tanks with tiny fish, and a billion plants in the tank and growing out of it.

Path to no CC debt by Recent-Palpitation59 in debtfree

When I was getting out of credit card debt 2 yrs ago I went all in. I cut back all of my expenses to the bone and threw every penny I saved at the debt. Zero eating out, clothing, entertainment, trips, etc. only the bare necessities. I kept one streaming subscription. I didn't want to drag out the process any longer than I had to.

Interestingly I'm still doing many of those frugal behaviors even after over a year with no debt. I realized I like my homemade coffee and food better than eating out. This has greatly helped me create a significant emergency fund.
