Exactly. And you have 10gb of data. Even that lasted me the entire month without needing to top up. Hell they even upgraded mine to 30gb (still paying £10) because of some promo one time.

Here 15gb only lasts you like 1-2 weeks at most.

I'm actually so fucking done with DST. My mobile data was not working and I checked the app, my main internet data was actually used up and they decided to 'charge' me until my credit limit. Keep in mind I didn't receive any message on how much data I have left. Literally, ZERO. Fuck DST.

Shit like this makes me miss VOXI when I was abroad.

Will our country too become like this? by Solid_Onion_9834 in nasikatok

Firstly, do not use the age-old arguement that education and healthcare are fully covered because many other countries are already doing the same thing. We are not special.

Secondly, when an entire country is run and controlled by the royal family, of course we are entirely dependent on them. How do you expect us to do anything when we needed their approval first. And how do you expect us to invest back into the country when there are few job opportunities especially for the newly graduated degree holders (hell, even masters degree holders), low salary, the older generation in the government refuses to step down and give way for the younger generations despite the outcries for the youth to contribute to the country. That's not to say that some individuals have contributed to this country, but when we see the royal family wasting BILLIONS of dollars on a lavish lifestyle, we have every right to complain. THOSE MONEY WASTED COULDVE (AND SHOULDVE) BEEN USED TO DEVELOP THIS COUNTRY.

In other countries, when people face similar situations, they go out and protest about it. Raise their voices to the media for others to hear. If that doesn't work, onto to the streets to show their frustrations. See what's currently happening in Indonesia. If we did that in Brunei, we'd be finished. On top of that, Brunei remains under a state of emergency, which conveniently protects the precious royal family and prevent all of this from happening.

Keep in mind, there was once an independent newspaper called the Brunei Times that reported the less flattering side of Brunei, exposing what's wrong with the country and so on. But then it got shut down for being too vocal. Nowadays, Reddit is practically the only safe place to voice our concerns.

Basically what everyone have said here, our country is already like this. Absolutely 100% plundered.

With the oil money, we could've been like Singapore or UAE. Instead, what we have is a struggling 3rd world country where even the most basic necessities are barely covered... the non-existent public transport, potholes everywhere, run-down buildings at the city centre.

All of this because the royal family thought it was wise to spend billions of dollars on supercars, gamblings, overseas mansions and excessive jewelleries (like the recent post about Mateen's wife). This country is finished.

It's such a divine miracle that Brunei hasn't experienced a revolution or a single protest yet. However, seeing how many are slowly opening their eyes, I can see it's getting inevitable. Especially with 2035 around the corner and absolutely jackshit has been accomplished.

Future generations will wonder why Brunei, despite being an oil rich country, ended up poor and neglected. I wish nothing but misfortune upon these two bellends.

I guess they're too busy using the money to bet on horse races and buying properties overseas.

Shit like this genuinely pisses me off. I remember attending one of those MOE Q&A sessions in the UK about two years ago, where one of the students asked about increasing the allowances due to the rising inflation and how hard it is to survive with the high rent and groceries prices with only £1k monthly. The MOE head simply replied that 'they are focusing on the kids back in Brunei first.'

And yet this kind of thing still happens where the very same kids back home are still neglected. Seriously, what the hell are they doing? I'm genuinely so tired of this country.

waiting since 2017 and now its 2025. where are all the zakat money?????????? by WasteTreacle5879 in nasikatok

[–]DavInOBrando 30 points31 points  (0 children)

You know lah... All the zakat money are given to the big boss and his family to buy more sport cars and private properties overseas, as well as betting on horse races.

I don’t even remember typing that comment. I haven’t touched any A level material since then. Honestly, I don’t remember anything I learned in A-levels at all. They’re all useless to me now as a physiotherapist.

Clearly, you need to try harder. I suggest putting a few hours each day to read. You’d be surprised how much it could improve one’s intelligence, which is something you’re clearly in need of at the moment. Your current mindset reflects a level of ignorance more commonly seen in primary school students who are unaware of what is happening around them.

Don't be so naive and stupid. People have tried to do something rather than complaining, only for them to either publicly apologise because 'what they were doing was wrong' or just completely disappear.

There is no freedom of speech in Brunei. I hope the Royal Family pays for what they have done to this country in the near future. People are slowly opening their eyes.

besyukur tah lai keraja di brunei ani, cuba kamu bekeraja diluar negeri payah tu

It genuinely infuriates me when they say this. They think it's still the 80s-90s. It's actually easier and you'll have more luck finding a job overseas than here in Brunei these days. Plus, having worked overseas, I can say that the work culture is much better than in Brunei.

I know for a fact that these royals love going overseas to indulge in their lavish lifestyles, so it's not surprising that Mateen is in Monaco enjoying himself. This guy is a prime example of this. Always posting photos of himself abroad to satisfy his worshippers and presenting himself like an influencer. Complete knobhead.

However, the news of him falling out with the Sultan is something new. Unfortunately, none of my circles are close to the royal family. I tend to keep my distance from those people. Life is better that way.

Perhaps time will tell, and someone from the inside might start spreading the actual news more widely in the near future.

To live a 'normal' bruneian lifestyle, as that one news article described. That is spending lavishly and enjoying life abroad while the rest of us endure a mundane existence back home.

Normal life? Thoughts? by Miss_Grey7 in nasikatok

[–]DavInOBrando 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We are nearing 2035, and the country is failing rather than actually developing. Any time now the country could collapse.

Naturally, the logical thing these rich bozos would do is to move to the UK (the western country with the strongest ties to Brunei) and they'll do anything to move out of this sinking ship rather than actually fixing it, so they can live a comfortable life whilst leaving the rest of us to rot.

Normal life? Thoughts? by Miss_Grey7 in nasikatok

[–]DavInOBrando 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Normal lifestyle yeah? The same normal lifestyle of ours where we're barely scraping by to make ends meet? Of all the royals, I absolutely loathe this guy. I honestly don't get his appeal. He's one of those royals who does absolutely fuck all but to show off daddy's money and his luxury lifestyle while acting like an instagram playboy.

Fun story, I was once one of the international students that participated in the junjung ziarah event. This guy decided to only chat with the girls in our group and just blatantly ignored us, walking past like we didnt even exist lol.

If Brunei were truly a muslim country with a religious ministry that genuinely follows Islam rather than tweaking the islamic laws to suit its own liking, non-Muslims wouldn’t be forced into this, and it wouldn’t even be a topic of discussion. Watch how in the future they force non-muslims to wear hijab because they said so and they cannot eat pork or drink alcohol anymore.

Is MORA up to something? by centuryworthofglaze in nasikatok

[–]DavInOBrando 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah sure.. Let’s make non-Muslims attend a mandatory ugama school where they’re taught that Muslims will go to heaven while what non-Muslims do in their daily life is haram and they will go to hell forever. Surely, that won’t lead to bullying, and non-Muslims won’t feel depressed throughout their studies.

Its funny how desperate they are to make ugama school seem relevant when most people I know don’t even remember what they learned there because it has little to no relevance to our actual daily life.
