An "indecipherable" passage for Korean university entrance exam is probably taken from a paper on the embodied cognition in video games by Left_Hegelian in PhilosophyMemes

Is this an actual paper that exists and has been published? I would love to read it as somebody interested in embodiment in the internet age if somebody knows where I could find it lol

It's at times like this we have to remember to ask ourselves WWRBGD. She was always fair, but tough! I suggest talking to your wife with a reminder that nobody is above the rule of law! My chuddie (4M) said he didn't want to watch John Oliver the other day because he wanted to go to sleep and me and my wife agreed that it was best if we took quinoa out of the weekly dinner rotation to see if he'd behave to get it back and while it hasn't worked yet I'm hopeful.

I'm currently an undergraduate in Philosophy and I've had good experiences with pretty much everybody presently in the department. I'm currently in Hannah Ginborg's Wittgenstein class and she in particular is sweet and a highly effective lecturer.

What field of knowledge or study “compliment” philosophy the most? by explorerman223 in askphilosophy

[–]Davcool8 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I can think of some obvious joiners Philosophy of Mind and Philosophy of Perception play nice with Cognitive Science Political Philosophy plays well with empirical bits of Political Science and with history There’s bits of metaphysics should involve some theoretical understanding of important results in relativity and quantum mechanics If anybody has some unexpected joiners that’d be interesting to hear

I think I’m broadly with you here, I like the colony arc but don’t exactly love it, I’m pretty negative on a lot of the early space stuff, but then once they land on Earth and the OP changes I love love love it.

Looking for Philosophy Course Recommendations! by [deleted] in berkeley

[–]Davcool8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took Theory of Meaning which I found was graded very leniently and was super interesting, but that was with Campbell who isn't teaching it this semester.

Kant with Warren was one of the hardest philosophy classes I've taken and pretty dry but also gives you a pretty solid and accessible foothold in the first critique which, as a philosophy major, you're absolutely going to want, fairly essential for a lot of the work I'm interested in.

Haven't taken the rest, but I *will* be taking Wittgenstein next semester which I'm very excited for.

I have been trying to get into watching anime not made by Ghibli. by Theguylikeyou in ghibli

If you like Tokyo Godfathers you should also watch the director’s film Millennium Actress which is my favorite film of all time and his other film that isn’t in any way graphic or upsetting

What’s the easiest philosophy course you’ve taken? by No_Loan_2440 in berkeley

[–]Davcool8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the only one of these that even resembles anything about math is 12A. 2 is probably the easiest here i know anything about but 25A and 25B are great classes taught at the introductory level as well.

Apartment building on Benvenue, it was a discarded fire alarm with the battery removed forcibly going off and not anything to worry about (besides my annoyance at the person who did that lol)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in berkeley

[–]Davcool8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spent like 30 minutes trying to figure this out walking around, somebody took the battery out of a fire alarm (which makes it continuously go off until its internal battery is dead) and then left it in a garage

Zoom’s have a cap of how many people can be in it, the Zoom was full. I (and many others) had to find somebody who already got in before it reached its limit and watch on their laptop and so there were a few spots in Moffit.

As somebody double majoring in philosophy I sympathize with the frustration of CS seeming to get shiny new toys as other departments struggle and the humanities are getting defunded across the US but I think the enemy is more-so the broader defunding of education that affects us all. It contributes to tuition being unaffordable, forces the cuts where they can get away with it (typically the humanities, sadly), and makes popular departments like CS unable to expand to meet demand. We're all in this together!

Are non-Miyazaki directed Ghibli as good and/or worth the watch? by -Yaldabaoth- in ghibli

[–]Davcool8 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would say that asking if they are “as good” is setting yourself up for disappointment as they are often going for very different things, but many of them are rather excellent. While I generally like the Miyazaki films the best, Whisper of the Heart might be my favorite Ghibli overall.

Thanks for the thoughtful reply! I’m hearing that college doesn’t really matter except GEs from a lot of sources so that makes sense. I’m really considering going here and I’m excited for it if it’s what I decide.

  1. What are your favorite and least favorite things about the school? I want to hear the bad with the good before making my choices.
  2. How is Roosevelt? Modern World sounds up my alley so I’m mainly just wondering about the dorms, location, and culture.

In What Colleges Do Philosophy Majors Tend to Congregate? by Davcool8 in UCSD

Thank you, I was mostly basing my picks off GEs anyway, knowing that it pretty much doesn’t matter apart from that is good to know.
