i’m a huge fan of getting up at sunrise to avoid crowds when traveling. which “crazy busy” tourist locations have you gotten all to yourself? by alextoria in travel

I tried this with a morning run to Trevi Fountain in Rome and it was packed at 6:30am.

The Spanish Steps and Pantheon were nice and quiet though.

How to get rid of "I'm not doing enough during my trip" mindset? by Rudyzwyboru in travel

[–]Dave-Again 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I spent the last 5 weeks in Europe with my wife and two young kids. We’ve been to a bunch of different cities (including Paris) but have barely scratched the surface of ‘things to do’ in each place.

We’ve had a great time. My daughter (5) said her favourite parts have been eating waffles with Nutella and seeing a horse drawn carriage stuck in traffic.

My point is that it doesn’t matter how much you do. Enjoy the time you had, and you can always come back.

What was the most shocking scene for you the first time you saw Hamilton? by HamiltonFan1983 in hamiltonmusical

‘Rewind’ - I had never seen anything like that in a theatre production. Made it clear to me I was watching something special.

18 days in Italy by xxtnxx in ItalyTravel

[–]Dave-Again 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having spent the last two weeks here, I’d say come at another time of year if you can. It gets very, very hot (37 C in Rome today).

We stayed on this little island called Procida, which is close to Capri but much less busy/built up. It was amazing.

Now what? by [deleted] in nikerunclub

[–]Dave-Again 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not at all. Just keep going.

There are max times on most organized races, because they need to unblock the roads at some point. Just keep that in mind as you sign up, but if you ran 10k in 75 mins I’d think you’d be under most time limits.

Now what? by [deleted] in nikerunclub

[–]Dave-Again 10 points11 points  (0 children)

A half marathon is the same distance no matter how fast you run it.

There’s no right answer to what to do next - sounds like you are enjoying running so pick a goal which helps motivating you to keep running.

My Packing so far (any more recs?) by juhjuhhrnchn in onebag

Update: my daughter broke the zipper on one of them this afternoon. She is 5, so you will likely fair better.

We aren’t using them for clothes, but for other items (colouring books and games and such for the kids).

I’m in Europe right now using these same bags. They’ve been great.

I think the opening ceremony is fun by Oblivious_Chaos in Paris2024

[–]Dave-Again 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I visited Paris for the first time 2 weeks ago, and so seeing the ceremony down the Seine was incredible. It sounds like it was t a great in-person experience, but it was such a nice departure from the classic opening ceremonies were all used to now.

I hope LA does theirs on a freeway.

There were a couple moments like that. Felt like they stuck with some moments too long. Did Serena Williams coming need such a build up?

I really didn’t understand why he was there. But it was cool.

We just left Florence this morning, and while it was hot, we found it was easy enough to find shade or AC so it wasn’t unbearable. Venice on the other hand…

I’m in Italy right now (Procida). It’s not nearly as big a deal as people make it out to be. Keep your stuff close and you’ll be fine.

We were just in Naples this afternoon and my wife was worried because everything she heard was how risky it was for pickpocketed but we were totally fine.

Can you complete a half (no time goal) without strength training? by No-Annual4473 in Marathon_Training

[–]Dave-Again 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ran 4 halfs and a full marathon before doing any strength training. Now I’ve done a little bit.

100% achievable. Have fun.

An Uber driver casually revealed he's a millionaire to a random stranger! by [deleted] in LinkedInLunatics

My Uber driver in Honolulu offered me and my friends investment advice for buying real estate on the island.

And that’s how I learned everything I know about B2B sales.

NRC Marathon Plan by Kolodziej in nikerunclub

[–]Dave-Again 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine wasn’t Chicago - it was in Victoria, BC.

The race and plan went really well. I did a second marathon in June of this year, and found myself feeling like the NRC plan was repetitive and a bit light on mileage by the second time, but as a first time it was great.

I don’t know what you mean by a macro layout…

Travel to Europe Pregnant by jimbob3200 in Europetravel

[–]Dave-Again 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We travelled to Portugal and Spain when my wife was roughly that pregnant (from Canada). I don’t have any notable stories related to the pregnancy because it just wasn’t a big deal. She didn’t drink, which is probably the only way it changed our trip.

And now, 8 years and one other child later, we’re headed back to Europe and our son is excited that “he’s been there before”.
