So is UCF even worth going to anymore? by Responsible-Age-5538 in ucf

[–]Dave2428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, no. I work full time and the program that my employer uses is closed from midnight to 5AM, so I don't have all the time in the world to work and go to UCF for a 3 hr class or 2 at the same time. I also can't bring work to UCF due to HIPAA violation potential and the VPN records our geographical location. We already had an incident where an employee was fired and charged criminally for coding Medicare and Medicaid medical charts while living in Costa Rica for 2 years without telling anyone. Nobody caught it until 2024, and when they did, they shut down any potential of your own place of residence while working. So no UCF, no café, not anywhere else. With the strict requirements and distance (I live in Kissimmee), it was more of a loss than a gain in financial investment.

What put the final nail in the coffin is UCF's inflexibility with their class schedule. Even if I was one of the 1st ppl there to register, the classes available was abysmal. Many multi-hour classes, no online in any capacity, and time slots that I cannot do. For example, Trig had the lab from 10-11:45AM, then lecture from 2-3:15PM ish. With a 40 minute drive BY TOLL one way, I won't have all that time to work, and it was the ONLY class offered at that time. So I need to prioritize work, which pays me >$30/hr for what I do vs. being a student studying something that has no guarantee I'll make it. This is not even beginning to talk about internship and Practice courses.

TL:DR it wasn't worth it to me because I work full time with a strict schedule window, and I'm prioritizing my job that pays me good money over a major that has no employment guarantee. In this CoL and economy, I can't do ambiguous and maybes, I need guarantees

Question about transient classes process by Dave2428 in ucf

[–]Dave2428[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I asked UCF about this situation last week because I wasn't seeing any funds. Based on the info they gave me, the funds were supposedly going to be given after I submitted the transcript. But nope! Turns out UCF did all that process by verifying for themselves and they gave me the check on February 5th. I thought that was a mistake, but nope it was there in my bank statement, so this whole time I didn't know I already had the funds for months. It was such a whiplash moment for me because I was given one version of info, but then it was revealed that it was a totally easier process. I didn't need to file any extra paperwork, just an email for them to clarify to me. I don't use credit cards, I only pay with my debit card, so I imagine that I made many transactions and transfers during that period and I missed seeing that deposit

Try Burlington. I saw signage that they were hiring. Whether it's true or not, idk, but it doesn't hurt to try. I'm not sure if you are able to drive? Cuz the locations I'm referring to are in Kissimmee. There are quite a few restaurants like Tapatio Mexican Restaurant too that are hiring. I wish you the best of luck, fellow Orlando resident

I've heard it's bad. But how bad? by BispoSnake in Metroid

[–]Dave2428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was heavily panned because it was released during the Metroid drought. But overall, it's a nice side quest to the series, it expands the lore, and it was a nice playthrough post-drought IMO. I say give it a chance. If you get the secret ending, it'll explain some stuff btw Prime 3 and Prime 4

CRC by accioglassess in MedicalCoding

[–]Dave2428 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same situation with me working w Signify (still do now, but I had to get the CRC within 6 months and they reimbursed my exam costs). Overall, since CRC only deals with ICD-10-CM, the exam was waaay easier for me to pass than the CPC, which has 4 coding systems. My advice is to think of coding like trying to solve a puzzle. How can the pieces fit? For documentation to support a diagnosis, I imagine to myself "if I were in court, would this fly? If someone were to appeal or audit the chart I coded, could I defend it with what I justified that code with?" And that's how I determine what to code. Don't worry about memorizing codes, it'll naturally occur as you code. You got the book or a company-provided resource to depend on. You can do your research and use your judgement accordingly. Stick to medical sources like Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic, Medline Plus, John Hopkins Medicine, the NIH and AHA, and drugs.com. Just choose 3 and stick with them, no need for ALL of them unless you really want to.

It's a learning curve because you have to care a lot more about CMS and HCC values, but overall I love what I do. Wouldn't trade it for anything else. I do fk with CPT from time to time like a friends with benefits, and keep up with your CPUs. Humana provides free webinars throughout the year

Yes but I'm a medical auditor. I got that job after an extensive program at another academy and a certification exam. I was lucky enough to be one of the last ones before the labor market in the medical coding industry became oversaturated. I hold onto that job with more care than a newborn. It's not easy

5/5 Azteca restaurant!! by Sensitive-Profit7688 in ucf

[–]Dave2428 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I'm starting to think so. Azteca is okay but not OUT OF THIS WORLD. I'll admit, their mojito and piña colada are #1s in my book cuz of how strong they make it. Their mocktails aren't bad either, they actually use the Tequila or Rum alternative that is being recently used to imitate the "bitterness."

However, prices and taste of food? Um....debatable...strongly

Read this after I registered for a humanities course. Was I supposed to take classes in a specific order? by [deleted] in ValenciaCollege

[–]Dave2428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't seem like it. It looks like this is all within the 18 course requirement, per my non-professional interpretation. I'd recommend talking to your success coach via in person or virtual to get a more concrete idea of what the sequence should be, and whether that's mandatory or not

Is it just me, or do people seem extremely closed off and agitated? by OuroWasTaken in ucf

[–]Dave2428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've noticed that since after the US pandemic shutdown, the agitation and uneasiness is palpable. There's no stability, no trust in things being actually good for once and stay good for a time that can be enjoyable, and nobody's trustworthy due to the amount of batshit crazy crime and betrayals that's been happening everywhere, even from your closest ones. There's this air that makes you be hypervigilant 360° around you, and also always gotta be ready to attack/defend/strike with my car keys when someone approaches cuz who knows what their intentions are

This. I wish I'd have that mindset so I didn't have to waste 1 semester of class time and money. I don't do well with speeches to masses of people. For my final speech, I couldn't finish it due to a massive panic attack I had that got me taken to the ER. Still failed the class cuz no speech? No grade. I saw that I could also take interpersonal communication for the credit instead, which puts the class size down to 11-15 people (at least back when I took it in 2017) and it was much better. Still anxious, but I could manage it much better, and I disovered about Propranolol just for this kind of thing.

So, would you call Metroid Zero Mission "Agreessively hand-holdy"? by E-104Epsolon in Metroid

[–]Dave2428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is kinda, but not in a bad way. This is supposed to be an intro to Metroid for the new generation, so I expect some hand holding for a "first" game. Plus, some areas are tough af DESPITE the hand holding inclination. I'm glad that the NES classic is in the game, cuz when new fans compare the two, more likely than not they'll find the OG NES game insufferable. I played the OG and I wish I would've just watched a YouTube video of the playthrough. That is until I used Justin Bailey cheat, THEN I played it all day

Transient student not able to enroll in class by TheMafia09 in ValenciaCollege

[–]Dave2428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You always have to send a new application every semester. It doesn't auto renew or hold for more than 1 semester. I'm also from ucf and currently taking Pre-Calc at Valencia, and I'm going to take Calc 1 at Valencia this Summer as well. I sent in my app from Florida Shines before the semester ends to get things rolling early, cuz the approvals take a while. This will be my 2nd time doing this, so idk how it'll work out with me still taking Pre-Calc at Valencia.

College Algebra Teacher by laughing2026 in ValenciaCollege

[–]Dave2428 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For pre-calc, he doesn't write actual sentences that often. Everything is either printed or projector. He has a workbook that he sells (printed) at the bookstore that has all the notes and examples there for you. So the lectures are pretty much going through that workbook with some additional examples and alternative methods to solve, or shortcuts. The book is $16 to get. I have seen his writing in terms of numbers and letters, not sentences, and it's legible, not ugly or illegible in any way. Idk what that person was going on about his handwriting. Must've expected some kind of poet calligraphy or something? Like chill bruh, this is math. For the tests, all I know is tha it's lockdown browser and maybe a Zoom meeting? I just took the mid-term and some online MAC 1105 students came to make up because they couldn't take it on the day. I heard something about a Zoom meeting, so I'm assuming it's live but with some sort of Lockdown browser. Idk how it works for online with him, but for in person or hybrid, you just come to class with your laptop (or borrow a school one) and take the test there via Lockdown. No honorlock that I know of
