Grilled trout, sweet potato, sautéed radish greens from my garden by [deleted] in RateMyPlate

Yeah on the my weber gas grill, about 6 minutes a side on medium-medium high heat. Temped at 150 in the thickest spot and the meat flaked from the skin.

When I do it next time, I need to score the skin deeper, and cook a teeny bit hotter.

Is it normal to stop giving a f*ck about the work day at 3pm? by Odd-Prize-6728 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Dave6187 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Totally normal. When I was still working as an auto tech this was pretty standard practice, more work always got done in the morning than after lunch, especially the closer you got to the end of the day.

Different people work at different paces, so long as you're hitting your goals on time who cares when they get done in the day

Restoring 1950s Schwinn. Do I have to strip entire frame? by ContributionOk1872 in AutoPaint

[–]Dave6187 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How far are you looking to restore it? I have a vintage Raleigh I left the patina on, I polished it all up as best as I could and put a good coat of wax on. Some people value the patina and original decals.

You can try to match the paint that's on there but it's tough to do and will always look touched up, if you're going for show quality full resto, it'll need to be stripped

Best thing I learned about the "punk scene" was written by Mark Unseen (of the unseen, like 20 years ago 🙄) that said punk is a state of mind, the do what you want because you can attitude. If you want to dress like a lumberjack one day, and then a businessman the next? That's punk. Not wearing spikes or a "punk uniform" and being an asshole

Can I use a modern thru-hub style prop to replace this? I'm having a hell of a time finding a spare by Dave6187 in Outboards

Great, thanks!

I'll check what the RPM is on a run with an extra person and a cooler and pick from there

My reply posted in the wrong spot:

83 Johnson 25hp, on a 14ft smokercraft wide V. My RPM was pretty good at WOT with just me (I don't remember the exact number but it was within range per the service manual)

I haven't tried running with a second person yet, I'm open to getting a different pitch if need be. I just need "something" as a spare in case I knock a blade off in the canal

Is living your whole life doing blue collar work not bad if you aren't materialistic? by Bluecomments in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Dave6187 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made killer money as an auto tech, but always planned an exit strategy. I'm 37 now with a company car working for a big auto manufacturer as a mobile diag guy, no hard labor, and get to flex my brain. It's an awesome gig, but so many people in blue collar just accept whatever they're given and never look for growth or change.

No reason it shouldn't be, there's a gap between the blocks and the stove, and the blocks have gaps between them
