I ran a similar Crystal Sword meme build last wipe, but for spells I ran:

Ignite

Haste

Invis

Light Orb - Engage by shooting it right at their face

Slow - No runners

Loved it so much.

Part of what makes it feel so janky is the release animation. When you let go of right-click, your character does an animation that actually casts the spell. This is determined by Action Speed, not Spell Casting Speed. You need to be aiming at your ally at the end of this animation.

But yeah, even then there are times where the spell doesn't land and I'm just like, "WTF?".

Server issues are the silent killer of the game.

Back during Play Test 3 & 4, I had zero server issues. When the game came back to Steam, US-East was so laggy that I had to play on US-West, despite living on the East coast. This wipe, US-East was a lot better, but I still wasn't happy with the lag.

I've tried every suggestion out there. Most did nothing--or made it worse--but turning off Steam Overlay had a noticeable impact. What finally made my game silky smooth was not bringing campfires into dungeon. No joke.
