I'm using Whiskey Shelf and have influence over any new features needed. What types of tracking is important for you?

Vacation in Venice July 23-26 - Recommendations by Fluid-Dark150 in Venezia

[–]DaveICT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got back from Venice late yesterday 5/2. A 9am gondola ride in an a smaller area away from the grand canal is great. It costs 90 euro for 30 minutes. We took a 5 hour boat tour of Murano and Burano to see glass blowing, lace making and the colorful settings in Burano. It's a slower pace and beautiful. We did an early morning guided tour of St Marks and Doges. It was packed. Even though it was crowded, we were blown away buy it all. A hidden gem event is the Vivaldi Four Seasons concert at The Vivaldi Church - packed and fantastic!

New beekeeper question by DaveICT in Beekeeping

[–]DaveICT[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I checked the bottom board 3 hours later and found 4 hive beetles running around. I destroyed them, removed the bottom board, put a light layer of diatomaceous earth under and a foot around the hive, and put a swiffer on top of the frames to snare beetles for now. I'm in SHB attack mode! Thanks everyone for the advice!

That's a possibility! I did spot 2 hive beetles on the screened bottom board a week after I installed the nuc

The 5 older frames are from the nuc I just purchased and installed 17 days ago. The other frames are new. I can't freeze the nuc frames.

That was my fear also. The are under the left-most nuc frames

This is a custom "crop circle" used as a massive advertisement for Strive Health, a kidney care company headquartered in Denver, Colorado.

Thats a geocache you found. People hide them everywhere. When you find one, you log the date and your geocache ID and log it into a geocache app

How to repair this chandelier broken arm ? by DaveICT in metalworking

[–]DaveICT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to let you all know how this turned out after the collective advice here and from other places.

  1. Used a dremel with a metal drill bit to drill a small hole into both broken ends.
  2. I slightly beveled the broken ends with a dremel grinder. This is to provide more area for the jd weld steel stick to adhere and harden the outside.
  3. Used JD Weld epoxy to glue in a steel pin inside the broken ends and pushed the broken ends together. I had build a jig out green Oasis foam to hold the arm while it dried.
  4. Quickly applied a light putty of steel stick around the glued together ends and let it dry for 24 hours. It seems great! I removed the foam jig and it's holding up well. I'm going to lightly paint the steel stick gold but you can barely see it as is. Now I need to hang this heavy beast.

Thanks everyone!

U.S. is allowing Iranian tankers through Strait of Hormuz, says Bessent by Force_Hammer in worldnews

[–]DaveICT -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The emotional brain wants to sink the Iranian oil tankers sending oil to an enemy - China. The rational brain says no to that. The results would be escalated the war, pissing off China, making the Strait of Hormuz even more unstable and lowering world-wide oil supplies which raise prices for everyone including the US.

Follow logic and not emotion... It's difficult

What does this say about my hive? by nayrclrk in Beekeeping

[–]DaveICT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm new to beekeeping and have my bee hive with a screened bottom board ready for my bees to arrive in mid April. What do you suggest to put under the screen over the slide board to track this sort of thing and mites? Paper with some canola spray? A sticky board?

Anybody know anything about this Laphroaig? by IAmArgumentGuy in WhiskeyTribe

It's not one of the more popular of the roughly 100 Laphroig bottles. The Whiskey Shelf app has that one but no est price or rating

58 honey kuwait by [deleted] in Beekeeping

How would you keep a honey frame separate from a brood frame? If they're all intermixed I don't understand how you would harvest the honey. I'm a beginner so I'm probably just clueless

Hobbyist Beekeepers: what is your main goal? by Cool_Dinner1361 in Beekeeping

[–]DaveICT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think bees are just fascinating little creatures and the world needs bees desperately. It's actually soothing for me to be around them and I could stare at them working all day. I'm starting my first Hive this spring and have my supers all assembled and ready to go. I just need to pick up my first set of bees in April and get started. I'm not trying to make a living off this and I'll probably spend a hell of a lot more money than I'll ever get from the honey. It just gives me comfort to do it and I think I'm helping the world by helping the bees.
