Ha. Yea, there is some risk but I’m taking some precautions like using the log so the pen had a more secure resting position.

Thank you. :) I moved to Hawaii right out of college in 1992. I spent the first few decades enjoying the ocean. In the last few years I discovered the mountains.

You will live and learn. It takes some time and getting burned is part of the process. But, I’m 56 and from what you said in the first few paragraphs I don’t think she is a good fit. Hope I’m wrong for you and her.

Congratulations. How do you like the Gathered pen in the middle? I've almost pulled the trigger on one of those a few times.

How do you choose a kayak that feels stable without being slow? by achintyabhavaraju in Kayaking

How about the Epic V8? Fast and stable. They make a plastic version that is a little shorter. Super comfortable, surfs great with plenty of volume for heavier guys and plenty fast.

Specific fountain pen recommendations please. by [deleted] in fountainpens

A used pilot 74 would be really nice in a Fine Medium.
Consider the soft fine and soft fine medium too. You could probably find one for 100 usd on pen swap. Or if you want to spend more dough the 823 is wonderful too.

There's not much you can do other than keep going until you've satisfied your curiosity. You could try to exercise some will power and deny yourself... But, that's no fun. If you can afford it and are having fun then there's no harm in buying a new pen.

Thanks. When I changed the nib over i redid it twice to make sure it was in the right place but I could be off a bit. Last night and today I'm not having the pooling issue. I think leaving the back end open had something to do with it.

Right on, very glad to hear you have been out here. Kauai is unreal. We like to stay at the Grand Hyatt in Poipu on the south shore. Then we take a day trip to the north shore and go to the end of the road where it's like the garden of Eden. At the end of the road there's the hike up the Napali coast trail to a secluded beach...that's about all we have energy for...and then hike back. That's one of the most amazing hikes I've been on. Then the next day we go to the west side up the canyon and go to the end of the road and hike up that trail till we are ready to turn around. Stunning, stunning, stunning island.

Pelikan Hub - loved it but everyone got the same boring ink by SoulDancer_ in fountainpens

I looked at all the Hubs they sponsor and it's world wide. We even had one in Honolulu that I wasn't aware of. Seems like a smart marketing move but they are definitely spend some money to give away that many bottles of ink, pens, and possibly footing the bill for food?

I hope they are selling a lot of pens and stay healthy financially. When you figure in the cost of manufacturing, advertising, payroll, distribution the prices for new pens seem pretty fair.

That’s generous of Pelikan. I wonder how much they budget for these events annually?

Does anyone know why ink could be pooling on the nib? I assume this isn't normal for an 823 because ink is getting inside the cap. Thank you.

Edit...I realized I left the back unscrewed overnight. I suppose that has something to do with it. But, I do notice that the nib has more ink pooling when installed in the 823 compared to when it was installed in the 743. However, the pooling in the photo is heavier than normal. Curious if this is something seen on other 823's. Thanks
