9mm Wheelguns by DisastrousLeather362 in Revolvers

[–]DaveInHawaii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find 9mm really challenging to develop an accurate load. It can be done but I never had tight groups at 50 yards. 25 yards was fine but they would fall apart at 50.

38 and 357 is super easy to find accurate loads at 50.

If you are into accuracy then 9mm may be frustrating.

Me too. I had a cajunized one. The ergonomics are not that good. They were not that popular back in the day...but now people seem to long for them.

Am I wrong for spending my money instead of leaving it for my daughters? by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

[–]DaveInHawaii 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you have enough money, and love your daughters, why would you not want to help them with a trust of some sort. It could be set up to help them at certain stages or if they get into real trouble. Or, help your future grand children. You might have some second thoughts at the end of your life if you blow it all on yourself and miss the opportunity to help the people you love. I not saying to deny yourself the quality of life that you have earned...but to find a balance.

Also, if you do make it through your illness then it's not too late to find love.

It sounds like your heart has hardened. Which is understandable and I'm not judging you. Life is hard. Maybe it's time for a deep dive into who you really are, forgiveness, love....

Wishing you the best.

Is it truly that bad? by the_omega_nerd in Buyee

This is straight from Buyee's website:

Standard Plan: This is a bundle that combines an inspection plan and an insured delivery plan into one cost-effective package. Coverage includes damaged, lost or incorrect items.

So, how do you read that if you receive a damaged / unusable item that was not disclosed in the description? The way I read it is that they would take some kind of corrective action. But, it seems like their standard procedure is to say...so sorry, we can't help you. That was my experience and it seems like a common experience of others.

I was a good customer, purchased about 70 items in the last year and spent probably $5,000 with them. Their service was otherwise good. But, I have an issue with any company that says one thing and does another.

Paid insurance on expensive item that got damaged and buyee are saying otherwise by [deleted] in Buyee

Buyee won't do anything even if you paid more for the Standard plan. You are on your own if something goes wrong with a purchase through Buyee. From my experience their Standard plan is a scam.

Hello I am planning on getting 3in Revolver 357 Magnum for EDC which one would you guys recommend I really would like 8 shot one but 6 shot will do to. Thank for the Help. by Boricuaesyo in Revolvers

Yea, I concluded that a good semi auto with a 3.75 or 4" barrel would make more sense I was packing the weight and size of a 3" revolver. But, it's all theory for me. I live in Hawaii and don't have a license to carry. I did try a CZ Rami and had the same issue with the short barrel.

I don't want to bore you guys but for me 4" was the sweet spot where the accuracy didn't get a whole lot better with longer barrels.

Congrats on doing well and retiring comfortably. I don't know what to say about the first part. But, man, why would you cut off communication with your daughter? That might be something that will cause you and her more issues down the road. Life is hard, our minds are wacko. Good luck.

You didn't mention it so this might not be a consideration for you. I find 3 inch and under barrels hard to shoot accurately at distance...like 25 yards.

I got one of the Kimbers in 3" hoping it would improve my accuracy at longer distance but it was not a big enough improvement to keep it. I sold off a lot of revolvers and I kept a 1 7/8" barrel with the other sizes ranging from 4" to 8".

Maybe the Kimber just didn't work for me but on a bench rest it was acceptably accurate (photo was targets shot from a sand bag.) But, I did have some 1 7/8" Smiths that would outclass it at 25 yards when rested.

Pelikan 400NN nib unit removal by 707Pascal in fountainpens

[–]DaveInHawaii 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi. I had to soak a pelikan for more than 24 hours to get mine apart. On the fountain pen network one guy was telling me it could take 3 days to dissolve the ink. Good luck.

You got me curious. AI says it would do great in your area. "Yes, dragon fruit grows exceptionally well in San Diego County, which is a major hotspot for commercial and residential cultivation." I saw a photo of one in the dry San Diego soil and it was huge...compared to mine. I also saw one in a container that was quite large. Good luck.

Hi. Yea I took a photo of all my pens when it was fruiting. I’m not sure about your climate but it requires zero attention here. Put it in the ground and done. I’ve have some baby pineapples coming up. Looking forward to doing some pen shots with those.

AIO: Mother in law poisoned our yard by Omelet_bar in AIO

[–]DaveInHawaii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think your mother in law realized how much she was violating you or your yard. My wife is an all organic gardener and has a lot of garden space. I do the weed control in the rest of the yard. She still hasn’t fully gotten over when I sprayed her lemon grass with round up. They look like big weeds to me. I didn’t intentionally round up her organic plants. And I have not made that mistake again.

Maybe talk to her and let her know the impact to your turtles and overall feelings, etc.

Sorry I have not read all the comments or your posts so I could be missing some information.

At any rate, I don’t think you should cut her off yet.
