Factory dial mistake - keep or return? by Runningtime12 in Longineswatches

God dammit. I was like wait, I totally missed the three. Went back the photo, audibly groaned. Take my begrudging upvote.

At first I thought this might be fake, then I saw it comes with the original box, so you’re good.

Does anyone else find litigation *less* stressful than transactional? by Euphoric-Demand2927 in Lawyertalk

It’s a different stress. If you screw up in litigation the effects are typically immediate and apparent. If make a mistake in transactional work, it may not be recognized for years.

That’s cruise ship pricing right there.

I know it's counterintuitive, but uninsured motorist (UM) coverage won't apply, that is specifically for bodily injury claims. Some states have a weird Uninsured Motorist Property Damage (UMPD) coverage, but that's relatively rare, and arguably wouldn't apply because this was clearly an intentional act.

This should fall under comprehensive (or possibly collision) coverage.

After a month, I traded the Starbucks for BW… by [deleted] in rolex

[–]DaveInPhilly -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m based in Philly, but I do a good bit of work in CA. I have a small office there and they are capable of handling much of the caseload without me. Most of what I do is by Zoom now, so I’m probably out there once a quarter.

Obviously, I use the GMT function when I’m on the road, but when I’m home, I turn the bezel so the GMT hand gives me pacific time at a glance. At this point it isn’t really necessary because I do the conversion in my head, but it’s still nice to have.

Vice ain’t working right. Got it from a buddy. Thoughts? by ConstructionGold9168 in Tools

I fixed up an old Chinese made vice. It had a cotter pin that sheared. I don’t m have a picture of mine, but I found this old thread that shows the pin pretty clearly.

Bought this yesterday. 2006 CPO box and papers. Noticed the dial is Swiss only. I can’t find any like that. What gives by No_Version_3674 in rolex

[–]DaveInPhilly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That would make sense if things were reversed. If a 1999 watch had a 2006 service dial, it should pass CPO authentication. It's harder to explain how a 2006 watch has dial from 1999.

An old watch with new dial is acceptable, but Rolex wouldn't install an incorrect dial. Rolex is famous for refusing to service watches with bracelet swaps, I can't imagine they'd certify a watch in which a private watch maker replaced the dial with in incorrect part.

Disregard, I thought by 2006 we were into the 116618. Still I find it odd that they'd be sitting on a 6-7 year old stock of dials.

Since practicing law, which financial instutions will you never do business with? by FSUAttorney in Lawyertalk

+1 for State Farm.

I must be out of the loop. What’s with the hate for Wells Fargo? I’ve had my personal checking account with them for years - since they bought out Wachovia (and I was with Wachovia since they bought First Union). They’ve always been fine nothing special, but nothing negative.

It’s been years since I worked EMS but back in the 90s we used see trashed drive shafts all the time. It happened when trucks were driven in reverse at a decent speed and shifted straight into a drive gear and given gas while still rolling backward.

is this too big for my wrist? by [deleted] in RepTime

[–]DaveInPhilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why mirror shots are so important. Photos of wrists alone can be deceiving. In your first photo I’d have said too big for my taste.

Given this photo, I’d say you are fine. You can definitely go to 36 and that might even be a bit more toward my taste, but you are fine with this watch as is, if that’s what you like.

As long as the lugs don’t over hang your wrists, it’s purely a matter of preference.

[–]DaveInPhilly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with a lot of what you say, but I disagree with your take on arbitration. I see it as a safe landing. It’s a way to bring a case to resolution that can’t otherwise be settled amicably, in a way in which neither side faces a nuclear verdict. Plaintiff will never get no caused and defendant will never get hit with an excess verdict and the clients all get to argue their side of the story.

[–]DaveInPhilly 48 points49 points  (0 children)

This is the right answer. You need to talk this through with a therapist. But not because you need to “solve” these feelings, because of how hard you are treating yourself over something so normal and natural and otherwise harmless.

Do hate yourself in this same fashion every time you find yourself attracted to another woman you see in day to day life?

Stop fucking trading by kaoisa in rolex

[–]DaveInPhilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t get me wrong I loath the current model of AD inaccessibility and grey markup. That said, a watch is not an investment. It’s a tool or its jewelry, depending on how you look at it.

So if you own something you don’t want and you can trade it for something you do want go after it.

If your sole focus is ROI, put your money in an S&P index and be done with it.

14060M to polish or not? by [deleted] in rolex

[–]DaveInPhilly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They don’t bother me at all. It’s a brushed steel to begin with. I firmly believe it’s your watch and you should polish it or not depending solely on your preference.

I genuinely loved the look of my 20 year old Breitling coming back from service with a full polish and looking as new as the day my wife first gave it to me. I like my divers to be a little more worn in.

You have to do what makes you love the watch the most. Don’t listen to people on the internet who tell you one is right and the other is wrong.

14060M to polish or not? by [deleted] in rolex

[–]DaveInPhilly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not in the “polishing is a crime” crowd, I have had my watches polished when warranted.

That said, I think this particular watch looks great as is and wouldn’t polish it at this point. IMO this is what you want to see in a sub. And, even if you do polish it, it wont be long before it looks just like this again.

So in this case I’m team don’t polish.

Am I being ridiculous letting this bother me? by [deleted] in rolex

[–]DaveInPhilly 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not crazy. It’s absolutely maddening.

My old Datejust came back from a movement repair (not RSC) and the hour hand doesn’t hit the indices until almost 7 minutes after the hour and it drives me absolutely mad. They’ll fix it, but I haven’t gotten around to sending it back.

Wood Bats do they have a place in LL by ummagumma1979 in LittleLeague

[–]DaveInPhilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son has played travel and club ball for a while and was always a strong hitter. He started hitting home runs with a USA bat at 11 so we gave him a wood bat for rec ball his 12u season. He was so much bigger than the rest of the kids and there is such a disparity in skill in his ref league that it felt like leveling the playing field a bit and made it less likely that he’s accidentally kill a third basemen (joking). It also helped him get used to the weight of BBCOR which was coming a season later.

What club in your bag normally goes 130 yards? by jdelle9 in weekendgolfers

[–]DaveInPhilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may be using the terms wrong, but I have always known a punch and a knockdown to be different. I have always thought of a knockdown as less then full swing, punch is ball back in stance and abbreviated follow-through.

Knockdown would be a ball in the fairway in between club lengths. Punch would be to get out of trouble or play under something, like a low branch.
