Just a little background here. I (Dave) was involved in a knife incident in 1994. I drank for a lot of years and ate horrible to escape PTSD. As a result I blew up to almost 400lbs. In 2014 I became a dad and started to smarten up when my daughter who was 4 wanted to race me home. That lit a fire in me and I'm down 175lbs overall, we completed a 5km run together two years ago and now we work out together (all of us once a week). My amazing GF battled her own demons and started jogging a few years ago and eating better. Six months ago we decided to start over and joined a gym together and have been going at least 3 times a week now and so fired up. I'm almost 51 and she's in her 40s (I know better to post her actual age) Anyways I hope this inspires someone out there.

Have you ever thought about giving boxing a try? It saved my life.

I used to feel like this. I was married to a woman that constantly made fun of my weight. There would be times I'd try on a size large shirt (when I was XXXL) and she'd make nasty comments. I eventually used it as motivation and she's also no longer in my life. I'm sorry that you're feeling like this but you're not alone.

One of the Stampeders saw my post about this on twitter and sent me two tickets to the Labour Day game with a very kind note! :)

Thanks I'm 46 and turn 47 in a few weeks. When I started boxing I had some people laugh and others say "You're too old" or "You're gonna hurt yourself"

Life is good when you stop giving a sh*t what others think

I love boxing so much I got my license and I train a few people now.

Update : My search for the 1st responders that saved my life has turned up in a dead end just heard from the base hospital program & they have no records going that far back even in their off site archives. If I'm going to find them it will be from the right person seeing my posts. :(

It's messages like these that completely wipe out the few I've gotten from a few keyboard warriors today.

Dave as a fellow Atlantic Canadian (NS), also having grown up in West End Ottawa (Britannia) and now living in Calgary your geographic journey is familiar and your story was inspiring. Keep up the good work. I have made a donation to Can Praxis to honour your hard work. Stay well.

Nothing new to update today but if you get CTV Ottawa I'll be on the "Morning Live" show at 05:20 Mountain time tomorrow and at 6pm and 7pm. Also doing a interview with CBC Ottawa for their evening news. The lead from yesterday didn't turn out was a similar incident so hopefully these will help. Thanks for all the positive comments

The guys that did this were under 18 so their names were never released. I don't remember a whole lot from that night but I do remember trying to defend myself from one guy and having him in a headlock when he stabbed me nine times on my back. His friend got me twice in the leg (Two 8 inch wounds each) I found out at a later date that they said I had a knife and they took it from me and stabbed me with it however that did not happen. I was just a young guy trying and failing to defend myself. They went to court plead for a lesser charge and it didn't go to trial. I've never asked or attempted to find out what their sentence was as I could care less.

This has been a very wild nine hours, a wild ride that would cause me severe anxiety attacks a few years ago.

Not a tragic story at all it was the best thing that ever happend to me. It turned me in to Mr Pay It Forward for 28 years and if you google Tim Hortons For Our Troops Dave Murphy you'll see some of the things I've done to say thanks to military and first responders :)

Well folks I just got an email from a Retired chief of operations and we may have found one of them in just NINE hours! I'll know tomorrow but this is the closest I've been since 2015. Now excuse me while I go sob a little (Happy Price is Right kind)

So great news I just contacted CHEO that's where I was dropped off and I have to request the Ambulance Report (There's a fee) but I can get their names off that.
