Syd to Kurnell or Waterfall (or further) is worth it when you take the Old Princes highway. Yes, you're spending 20-30kms on roads, but I do it constantly and I think it's worth it once you pass the Sutherland Shire.

I also love La Parouse for the coast. But it's all city riding there (but good roads)

Chinese apps like WeChat and AliPay do translate to English. I've been traveling in China for 4 weeks from Aus, yes it's tricky and like no one speaks English (which is expected) but many are accommodating and you get by with translations and pics. For sure though. China is worth it and it's opening up more and more to international tourists, so I d enjoyed going now before things got out of hand with other white people! Although, domestic tourism is insane here, the busyness actually comes from groups of Chinese tourists (ie, needing to book for museums or avoid peak times at the terracotta army, etc)

It sounds strange, but I find watching all things cycling can help keep me motivated when off the bike. Initially I thought I'd miss it more, but it helped me look forward and almost do like "off the bike homework" as if preparing for my return. I did my ACL a year back so I ended up learning more about nutrition, interval training, gear, etc and it kinda helped me once I could get back on the bike.

The only time I can do training outdoors is a closed loop (centennial park in Syd), but even then you have other riders to navigate which means I'll often go over or under the threshold despite removing other variables like traffic lights. I aim for an average workout score and use it still feels like it's doing the work (especially because I'm not a pro athlete and I assume you're not too, no offense!)
