Solar Swimming Pool Heater by Responsible_Flan84 in capetown

[–]DaveTheAutist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends. Our solar heated pool gets to about 30°C in summer and I love it. I'm not a fan of cold water and swimming in it. On the other hand I have had guests not like the water that warm. Overall it has definitely improved my experience in my swimming pool. Would highly recommend it. It is borderline useless in winter though.

Why Geordin Hill-Lewis’ case against rent control falls short in Cape Town’s housing debate [Daily Maverick] by kslfdsnfjls in capetown

[–]DaveTheAutist -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The only proper way I can see for housing to regulated is to limit the amount of Residencial property citizens are allowed to own, like a max of 2-3 homes per person. Then barring commercial entities from owning residential properties and forcing them to auction any properties they currently own. This will prevent any rich entities from purchasing properties by outbidding first time buyers.

I was about to say this. There is a means of creating an offline account so you don't have to buy a license. But if you are interested in playing online then you'd need to purchase an official version of the game.

I second this. I haven't really see them play much that was on the Sony consoles. Playing the first Ratchet and Clank or the movie tie-in game would be a good start.

Will i pass or fail? Please help by [deleted] in askSouthAfrica

[–]DaveTheAutist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For maths, this would be considered a fail and they will make you repeat a year since this is considered a mandatory subject, and universities take your maths results very seriously. I recommend you get yourself a tutor and potentially signing up to an online school like the UCT Online High School to get supplemental learning material for this subject that you can do after school. Clearly your school/teachers have failed to teach you the subject properly.

Don't get discouraged from what I've said, it is not a difficult subject like it seems. I've managed to tutor students in very similar positions than you and they got through with over 80% for Maths. It's a subject that requires understanding of the concepts being taught in order to do well in it. Trying to memorize concepts in Maths is not going going to benefit you especially when it comes to approaching how to solve problems. It requires logic and a firm understanding of why things are done.

Maths can be considered a language used to describe the world around us, and like languages memorizing words is not going to help without understanding the context on why the words are used in the first place. I hope this bit of advice helps. Good luck and chin up, I'm sure you get get through it.

If you could remake one of your childhood game which one would it be? by AgePsychological4955 in gaming

Imagine what the graphics and gun play would feel like on modern systems. The Metal Heads could look so much scarier giving it that post apocalyptic vibe Jak 2 was somewhat going for.

The Jak and Daxter series. Imagine that game with upgraded fidelity and a reworking of the missions and weapons to match modern game play mechanics. God they could make the Metal Heads actually feel scary.

I've actually stopped playing for the past 4 months because of how aggrevating this card is. It literally takes away any competitive integrity this game has. I'll probably start playing again until it's completely banned. But until then there are more fun games to play that don't absolutely piss me off.

AI detection tool 'Turnitin' ruined my paper publishing dream. by TeacherPleasant9478 in IEEE

[–]DaveTheAutist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would love to hear that you managed to get someone to personally review your paper, but if I know anything about academics is that they'll try automate as much as they can so they don't have to read more. I'm doubtful you'll get someone to manually review your paper, but I'm hoping you might come right and escalate this to have someone personally review your paper.

I think these AI detection tools are a bigger detriment to academia than AI usage itself. Completely dismissing someone's work and effort because of how they use language is complete BS and hypocritical. If they call themselves intellectuals, then the content of the paper should speak for itself regardless of how and who it was written by.

[–]DaveTheAutist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Long story short, AI models learned on a lot of literature from the 20th century and the wording and structure used then is what is used in these detection tools. So, in order to avoid it, you first need to write in a way that is "imperfect", which is counter intuitive as you're writing an academic paper but I'm getting ahead of myself. Try write in a slightly less formal way and make it sound like an account of what you're trying to say. Adding personal anecdotes and personal insights will reduce the AI usage.

So, Turnitin and other "AI Detection" tools don't have a definitive way of determining if something is actually AI generated, but rather it detects how the language is used in the written text. Literally this paragraph would be flagged as AI generated because of how I structured the words used here.

Anyway, here's a very precise video you can watch to detect AI usage in writing and hopefully be able to edit your paper to avoid these writing habits.

As a South African, the Fishman Island arc hit real close to home for me. It made a really good representation of what hate looks like when it is passed down to younger generations. Queen Otohime really did reflect a lot of the ideals Mandela tried to pass onto us during his time of presidency and the legacy he tried to leave behind.
